Actually I just tried it again and Chrome did not block it.  My antivirus did though.  Windows Defender I think.  I'm not an admin of my machine, so I can't 'whitelist' it, unfortunately.

Hopefully Chrome won't keep blocking this version :- /

Wow I didn't realize there was so much information in those little pictograms on the SD Cards.    :Thmbsup:

As far as Cloud, Linux, etc, none of those are really options...  This is my work laptop, and the school district I work for won't even let me be an administrator.  I recently requested that they increase the RAM from 4 to 8.  They won't do that either.   >:(    I guess I don't blame them though.  There are many 1000s of staff and student  laptops and Chromebooks that they have to deal with.   And I find that the school district tech departments around here (near Seattle) are sorely understaffed.

I like the tiny flash drives!

@Shades: Good point about the need to have the hard drive and whatnot near the fan.  I hadn't really thought about that.  My wife's laptop is an Acer.  Much bulkier than the HP.  It was sure easier to upgrade though...  There's a little panel on the bottom.  Take off the panel and the two RAM slots, the HD, and a U3 slot are all right there.  Nice.

The HP also has a tiny (and dark) keyboard which I absolutely hate.  So I got an external backlit USB keyboard.  Now I have to use a USB splitter to have room for my flash drive + my keyboard.  So I guess the size of the flash drive is moot now.   My mouse dongle occupies the second USB3 socket.  There's also a USB2 socket, but I think it's broken.  You have to wiggle it to get it to work.

I thought about getting a mouse/key board combo that shares the same dongle, but I have multiple work locations and don't want to lug the keyboard around with me...  I'll just have a separate splitter and separate keyboard at each site.  (I take the flashdrive and mouse around with me though.)

LOL   You guys are a hoot.  Thanks for the detailed responses and resources.   The laptop has a couple of USB 3.0 slots and I do have a fast thumb drive that I've been using.  Of course it sticks out of the side, daring me to break it off.  I figured with an SD Card I could leave it in all the time.  I wasn't aware of the 32GB limit though.  So that's no good.

Here are some of the other specs--if you're curious.  It's an okay little laptop, I guess.  The limitations are sucky though.  I believe it only has one RAM card.  I found a tutorial on youtube, and apparently you have to take the whole bloody thing apart to access it.  Like really, the laptop is in pieces before you can get to the RAM.  Whoever came up with that aught to be taken behind the shed with those other two guys...

General Software Discussion / USH-II SD Card compatible with my HP?
« on: February 27, 2021, 09:24 AM »
This is a 'hardware' question rather than a 'software' question.

My work laptop is an HP Pavilion.  This one, I think: PAVILION 13 SERIES PAVILION 13-S120NR X360.  It has a measly 100GB hard drive.   I'm thinking of getting an SD Card to use for extra space.  They have Ultra High Speed ones now that are rated for 300mbs/sec.  Does anyone know how to check if my SD slot is even designed for UHS use?   The HP site is here:  https://support.hp.c...ument/c04790206#AbT0 It just says, "Multi-Format Digital Media Card Reader."  If it was a high speed one, it would probably say so--yes?

Ditto too!

If there are any AutoHotkey users out there, this snippet will remap the two little side buttons on some mouses.

Code: Autohotkey [Select]
  1. XButton1:: Send {Volume_Down}
  2. return
  3. XButton2:: Send {Volume_Up}
  4. return

Actually, as I look at it though... I think the 'return' lines might be redundant(?)  IDK

EDIT:  I just changed it in my master script, and the returns are apparently not needed.

Code: Autohotkey [Select]
  1. XButton1:: Send {Volume_Down}
  2. XButton2:: Send {Volume_Up}

Live and learn   :D

59
@MilesAhead, No doubt the AutoHotkey one that Nod5 made will work for you -- yes?

60
I tried the above beta (portable one) on my two monitor setup.  The screens are different sizes, so I tried it with the tops lined up, then the bottoms lined up.  Also tried it with one (then the other) at 125%.  Used "region capture" each time.     I was capturing both monitors each time.   It worked without any problems.  A+

61
The Co-op for Two thing does look fun!  I will check it out.
I hate to tell you though, but that "Dead Men Tell No Tales" game looks like it might be pirated...
Ha!  I made a funny.

Just a reminder to folks to consider sending some donationcredits to people on the forum (click the gold coin under their name) who work on these coding snacks -- show them you appreciate what they are doing!
Cool!  I never even noticed that those icons are all links!

PublicDomainVic / Re: AppFolderIcon thread

I admire your dedication to the project!  But don't hard-code specific app names in there for me...  It would be bloat.

Here is a screenshot of some of the misfires...  Actually I guess you could hard-code it to find "AutoHotkey." That is a fairly common app and lots of people probably have it.  The two Insofta apps are probably less common--don't bother with worrying about those.  As I was making the screenshot, I realized that "Insofta" is similar to "uninstall." No doubt that is what caused the error.

Also, these are on a thumb drive, so I took the four bottom ones (which were skipped) and put them in a folder on my desktop just to see if it would make a difference.  AppFolderIcon can only see two of the folders(?) So that was weird.  I'll attempt to zip the folder and send if via PM.

Other thoughts:  Maybe have it ignore any "Uninstall.exe?"  I notice (with my own setup at least) that the folder often has a version number, but the program exe often does not.  So maybe have it ignore numbers and the word "beta" or "version" in the folder name(???)  Not sure on that though...  EDIT: Maybe also ignore the word "portable." /

Man this is awesome!  I have a back-up of my Portable Apps folder.  31 first level subfolders, but if you dig to the bottom of each directory, there are 333 of them.  It takes the AppFolderIcon between 2-3 seconds to process them.  Pretty good.  The algorithm does guess the names pretty good, but there are a couple of surprising misfires of the Levenshtein_distance math.  Do you want me to post them for fine-tuning purposes, or is this that can't really be adjusted anyway?

Also, what does the Delete inis command do?  I'm guessing that windows would just rebuild them...  So that command probably puts them all back to their defaults?

65
Wow!  Very cool!  Thanks so much Vic!  I'll comment on the AppFolderIcon tread.  FYI to others:  Vic has made this app so that it intelligently determines which exe file is the most likely to contain the desired icon image -- Good stuff!

66
Is it possible that this is related to having multiple monitors, and one is set at 125% resolution?

Argh!  Chrome is blocking Rapture Replica...  Thinks it is a vitus...   >:(

Hey thanks folks!

The AHK one works like a carm.  I don't think the PowerShell one is working though(?)  I went with the "Send to" option.  It does open the PowerShell window, but nothing appears in the window, and it doesn't appear to do anything.  It's all good though.  I've got a bunch of different AHK scripts that I use, so there's no point in breaking with tradition.   :- }

Thanks again.

EDIT:  Also, extra points for 4wd, for writing code from his car...  Username checks out too!  LOL

69
... it may be worth checking out a macro record/playback utility. ...
Actually I only figured I'd do one folder at a time, so yea a macro makes sense.

I did some googling, and it appears that Win 10 can capture a file's path via Shift+RightClick.  I'm trying to simulate that in AutoHotkey.  Windows doesn't seem to be seeing the "Shift" part though...  :- /

Code: Autohotkey [Select]
  1. !^g::
  2. sleep, 1000
  3. Send, {LButton Down}
  4. sleep, 100
  5. Send, {LButton Up}
  6. sleep, 100
  7. Send, {Shift Down}
  8. Send, {RButton Down}
  9. sleep, 100
  10. Send, {Shift Up}
  11. Send, {RButton Up}
  12. return

EIDT:  This works!

Code: Autohotkey [Select]
  1. !^g::
  2. sleep, 1000
  3. sleep, 100
  4. Send, {Shift Down}
  5. sleep, 100
  6. Click, Right
  7. sleep, 100
  8. Send, {Shift Up}
  9. return

EDIT2:
This is the most kludgy thing I've seen in a while...  And its unreliability attests to this!  LOL
I got tiried of working on it.  I might try to finish it later.

Code: Autohotkey [Select]
  1. #NoEnv ; For security
  2.
  3. ;Navigate to file in Win Explorer.  Hover mouse over file.
  4. !^g::
  5. sleep, 1000
  6. Click ;Selects file
  7. sleep, 100
  8. Send, {Shift Down}
  9. sleep, 100
  10. Click, Right ;Pops up special context menu with "Copy as path."
  11. sleep, 100
  12. Send, {Shift Up}
  13. Send aaa{Enter} ;Need correct number of a's to select Copy as path.
  14. sleep, 100
  15.
  16. Send, {Alt Down}
  17. sleep, 100
  18. send, {Up} ;Tells Wind Explorer to browse up one level.
  19. sleep, 100
  20. Send, {Alt Up}
  21. sleep, 100
  22.
  23. Send, {AppsKey} ;Parent folder will be selected.  Shows context menu.
  24.
  25. sleep, 100
  26. Send, {Up} ;Goes to bottom memu item (which is Properties.)
  27. sleep, 100
  28. Send, {Enter}
  29. Send, {Shift Down}
  30. sleep, 100
  31. send, {Tab} ;ShiftTabTab highlights General tab in Properties dialog.
  32. sleep, 100
  33. send, {Tab}
  34. sleep, 100
  35. Send, {Shift Up}
  36. ;Still needs to ArrowLeft 5x to highlight Customize tab.
  37. ;Then Alt+i to change icon. Icon resource path box will be highlighted.
  38. ;Paste path into box and {Enter}.
  39.
  40. return

Interesting.  So what you'd need to do I guess is just identify the path of the exe, then edit the 'desktop.ini.'

Edit to idea/request:
As I look through my subfolders, I see that some of the applications have secondary exe files in with the main application.  Often those have different icons.  As such, the "first" exe found is not always the correct one.  Perhaps the solution to this, would be to find the exe that has the same name as the folder.  Unfortunately, the exe's name is often slightly different.

Maybe it would make sense to navagate to the correct exe, then select it and activate the tool (via hotkey I guess).  The tool would then get the path to that exe, then edit the parent folder's desktop.ini folder...

EDIT:  On a related, but different topic:  About 10 years ago, a fellow named Kilmatead, made a tool in AutoIt for customizing folder icons.  It is here
https://forum.zabkat....php?f=22&t=8816
I just checked and the download still works.  And the app works on my current Win 10 laptop.

Lots of options.  Sadly Kilmatead disappeared from the forums years ago and is assumed, either dead, or abducted by aliens.

I have a Portable setup on my work computer (not sure if that's relevant to the request).  As seen in the back window, I have a PortableApps folder.  For the most part, there is a subfolder for each portable app.  And--mostly--each folder has an exe in it of the application, for example Calibre Portable in the front window.  I was simply going through and manually customizing the folder by navigating to the exe file and choosing the first image that is compiled in it.  That way, the folder has the same image as the application in it.  I figured that could be automated with AHK, or some other language...

I guess the rules would be:
-look inside of folder for the first exe file found.
-look for first icon resource in that found exe file.
-set the folder's icon to be that icon resouce.

snack idea 2-9-2021.png

Any takers?   :P

Apparently I "collect" file managers, because over the years I've purchased, xplorer2, Total Commander, XYplorer, and DirectoryOpus.  As others have said, DO is probably the most feature-rich.  Personally, my go-to usually falls back to XYplorer.  Do note that, XY is natively portable.   With DO, you can buy a portable version, but it will be tied to a particular usb stick.

I don't know Mouser... But I saw a remote controlled bidet on Amazon.   So you don't have to be there when you rinse yourself--apparently.

Hey, what's your Youtube channel abour?

Personally I plan on using a loofa in the shower today to I can scrub away the year.

On a related note:  I found a movie on Netflix, "Death to 2020."  Pretty hilarious lampoon-style documentary of the year.
