General Software Discussion / Re: Spotify
« on: August 26, 2009, 01:20 PM »
I've been using Spotify since ??? and I'm really quite happy with it - the ads are not too abusive - and I'd say I have 9 out of 10 success when searching for a title or singer/group.

It's also very rapid, more so than Deezer or Grooveshark (browser-based) and I particularly like the elegant interface.

Thanks Tranglos for the TaskTracker link - I didn't know this one, it's good. In fact I was just about to post a coding IDEA/request for an improved "recent files list" app which would be very similar to TaskTrack - I might still do so !

General Software Discussion / Re: TheBrain / Personal Brain
« on: July 28, 2009, 06:33 AM »
I've been using PersonalBrain for 2 - 3 years now and I'm really happy with it (the basic version, can't afford the full version though I'd like to). I've tried nearly all other mindmapping and outlining apps to try to find the one that suited my needs best and I've always come back to PB.

Pros : intuitive, no "central" thought, nearly unlimited possibilities... PersonalBrain is constantly being improved, see the PB forum.

Cons : java based (like many mindmapping apps), so can be slow and resource consuming.

Here is an interesting and nearly complete list of this type of app : MindMapping

I copy pasted 177KB of txt and quotepad window froze. Did it use C++ to handle strings?  :(

I can't see anywhere, that CintaNotes has reminders?

No, no reminders, I'm not sure that it's in the roadmap and not sure it ever will be - that doesn't seem to be the prime purpose of CintaNotes.

Don't want to be a wet blanket but I much prefer CintaNotes
I'm just curious what you prefer about CintaNotes.  I ask as a CintaNotes user myself who was somewhat interested by the posting about QuotePad.  The two programs seem quite similar at first glance.

Well it's difficult to say (which is why I said I prefer it and not that it's better), but I reckon it's the GUI and the ergonomy, plus the very helpful dev. and his extensive roadmap.

Thanks all,
I have Tinywatcher but that's not what I meant - however LoadOrder is just the thing though I wanted also to know the TIME each service etc took to load...

Post New Requests Here / IDEA : boot log
« on: July 02, 2009, 12:53 PM »
After the usual : (this has maybe been requested before but I can't find it), I'd really like a simple boot log that would appear in a window on-screen once everything is loaded and that shows the order and time of loading of services and applications etc during boot up and on until the system is up and running as usual.
I know there are applications for this but they seem too complicated (for me anyway).

Thanks !

I had a recent report from someone that the configuration tool was crashing as soon as it was started.. If this happens you could try the previous version of Process Tamer while i investigate.

Yes, same here. The config window just flashes for a second then disappears. I have gone back to the previous version.
