General Software Discussion / Re: Must-have Windows Programs
« on: December 24, 2009, 11:11 AM »
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and my must have software includes:

Directory Opus
ClipMate
Fineprint
Firefox
Roboform

I'm surprised that only Darwin uses two of my "can't live withouts "    Roboform ( I use  portable) and ClipMate.  I too run Win 7  64 bit

I come here because I find the commentary interesting.  I learn something new almost every time.  If I have a question , no matter how dumb, someone answers without  making me feel like a dummy.  I  have picked up some very nice programs.
I've been a member since 2005.  I don't say ( posted probably  120 times ) much but I come every day to see what is new.

A great site with great people.

Living Room / Re: Dual monitor setup advice needed
« on: November 24, 2009, 08:19 PM »
Ok  I finally got my graphics card and now have two monitors setup.  They are set up to extend.  I have my e-mail ( Thunderbird)  open on the 16 " ( secondary ) monitor
but when I open an e-mail it opens  on the main 23 ' monitor.  Why ?  Is this normal and is there a workaround ?

Thanks

One of the tricks that DirectX can perform is Tessellation.

Thanks for the reply, Shades
I have no idea what  DirectX is, but rest assured  that I would certainly not Tesselate  !
My computer is new, HP  p6112p so I would hope that the length would not be a problem, but I will make sure before I buy.

Living Room / Dual monitor setup advice needed
« on: November 13, 2009, 03:03 PM »
I need advice.  I have an extra 16 " monitor.  I thought I would add it to my computer and have a dual monitor setup.  I am running Windows 7-  64 bit  Home premium. The other monitor is 23 "
I do not have a separate video card so I will need to add a graphics card with two VGA ports.  I don't play games so high end is not necessary  less than $ 100.00 would be good.
What graphics card would you recomend ?
Thanks

A priest is at the Pearly Gates. Ahead of him is a guy who's dressed in sunglasses, a loud shirt, leather jacket and jeans.
Saint Peter addresses this cool guy, "Who are you, so that I may know whether or not to admit you to the Kingdom of Heaven ?"
The guy replies, "I'm Peter Pilot, retired Southwest Airlines Pilot from Dallas ."
Saint Peter consults his list. He smiles and says to the pilot, "Take this silken robe and golden staff and enter the Kingdom." The pilot goes into Heaven with his robe and staff.
Next it's the priest's turn. He stands erect and booms out, "I am Father Joe, pastor of Saint Mary's in Pasadena for the last 43years." Saint Peter consults his list. He says to the priest, "Take this cotton robe and wooden staff and enter the Kingdom."
"Just a minute," says the good father, "that man was a pilot and he gets a silken robe and golden staff, and I get only cotton and wood. How can this be?"
"We go by results," says Saint Peter, "When you preached, people slept; when he flew, people prayed."

A man is in the waiting room of a hospital emergency room having brought his wife in.  When the doctor finally comes out, the doctor says to the man " I don;t like the way your wife looks "  The man replies  " Neither do I Doc, but she's a great cook and good with the kids "

Can a person  vote more than once ?   That would  skew your feedback.  Can YOU tell if a person votes more than once ?

I can't imagine  Apple Itunes site is not secure.  There are millions of users.
What I do is use one ( the same one ) credit card for ALL my internet purchases.  That way if I ever ( and in 0ver 10 years  I have never had a problem )  have a problem it is only one card to cancel.

I have Itunes on a direct credit card bill ( not through paypal ).  That works fine.  I find in general that the Itunes software/website is horrible.  Very slooooow.  Hard to move around, not intuitive at all.  I bought my Ipod Touch only 4 weeks ago and had a minor problem.  I called Apple and they were great on the phone and did solve my problem.  It is possible your problem is with Paypal - did you call them ?

Living Room / FURL
« on: December 19, 2008, 01:12 PM »
I subscribe to the NY Times website.  They  allowed you to save web pages, news articles etc  from anywhere to   your TIMES FILE, which could then be accessed  anywhere / anytime..   They are discontinuing the  Times File and transferring all the   saved pages ( if I agree ) to FURL.

Does anybody know about FURL ?

Thanks
