I thought it might be fun to exchange some TV series that are "included with Prime."  I am too thrifty to rent or buy shows.  But some of the original shows included with the basic subscription are quite funny.  Here are a few of my favorites:

The Patriot

The Boys

The Tick

Goliath


if you are nostalgic for 1950s TV shows it seems like they are buying every show I watched as a kid.  I think even Retro TV passed on The Donna Reed Show.  Anyway I am  bummed that The Patriot will not see a third season.  I loved that show.  Outrageous humor done deadpan.

Cool.  I never heard of this file manager.  I was into FreeCommander until the 64 bit hurdle kind of messed up the evolution of it.   I will check it out though.  Thanks for the heads up.

Heh heh.  I've been a steady consumer of SciFi since the early 1960s.  I can only guess that I missed out on Clifford D. Simak's works because I must have looked at one of the stories with goblins and thought all his stuff was like that.  I am still chasing after Cosmic Engineers and a few others.  The ebooks make it a bit easier to get books I missed the first time around.

Recursion by Blake Crouch. 

An interesting take on time travel.  When someone goes into the past to change the future, when the time comes for the nullified event to happen, then people who originally experienced it remember it.  This can be unpleasant if the thing you remember is burning to death, drowning, being blown up, buried alive etc..

It is also a love story.

Also I am nearly finished with another Blake Crouch novel Dark Matter.  Rather than time travel the protagonist searches through parallel worlds trying to get back to the one he was expelled from.

I am still devouring the novels of Clifford D. Simak.  It seems with the digital books they are playing the "region game" they play with DVDs.  Novels like Cosmic Engineers can be purchased in Australia but not in the USA.  Really annoying.  This is forcing me prematurely into the short stories.  Bummer!

I had a similarly frustrating issue with the Moto phone I just got rid of. No matter how many Apps were listed the close all button didn't show up until I got down to the last one.

Interesting, my Moto G5+ shows CLEAR ALL at the top of the list all the time, unfortunately because the most recent are always shown at the bottom you need to scroll to the top to see it.

@Miles: Old Tesco HUDL v1 with Android 4.2.2 can only clear one at a time here.

You can add a Clear All function but it'll require root and the Xposed framework.

i tried a few of the one click root without PC apps and none of them succeeded.  At this point I think I will just live with it.

Speaking of Moto phone my free service will crap out soon.  Supposedly Metro supplies the e 5 plus for free with the $50/month plan.  If that is true I may go for it.  With 3 GB of Ram it must run better than my current phone.

My tablets all have 1 GB or less of Ram.  I would not mind if it saved the list if it was optional or I could close them all with one shot.  The repetitive swiping is wicked lame.

On older Android versions I used to use Advanced Task Killer (by Rechild, couldn't find it in the Play Store anymore) to kill off unused programs, but I started it manually only, as I didn't want it to kill apps 'under my fingers'. I think I stopped using that around Android 5 or 6, but it should still work on those versions. AFAICS, killing an app is the only way to close it's (remaining) views.

To kill a bunch of background apps I use RamBooster.  But in this case I am just trying to get rid of the windows without developing some kind of chronic thumb injury.

My tablet has android 6, but it is a Samsung Galaxy S2, so if what Ath says above is true, it could be jist because it's a Samsung device.

Even my Kyocera Brigadier phone with Android 5.1.1 has that 'close all' button. And when you press it, wait a few seconds to give apps time to close and then reopen that screen, not one of the apps has been terminated. Manually closing any of the apps in that screen results in the app reappearing in the screen in a random location. So it looks safe to say that this functionality may only work properly from Android 6.x.x or higher.

What happens on my Alcatel phone is the windows all close but if one is of an app still running it may squawk.

TMK that close-all feature first appeared on Samsung devices, and later also on other brands (nothing to compare with though), but only recently was added to stock Android.
Sometimes it requires to 'shift the list aside' to reveal the Close all feature, have you tried that?

What version of Android is on your tablet?  Mine has that function, and I don't even have the latest version on the tablet.

It is Android 6.0 on an RCA Viking 10.1" tablet.  My cell phone has Android 6.0 and a "close all" button.  It seems the apps that are supposed to do it only work on phones.  I tried a few and gave up.

Edit:  It is one of those with the tablet in a case with built in keyboard.  I wonder    if that makes a difference?

My Android 6.0 phone has a button in the recent windows list to close them all with one tap.  What I want to know is why my Android 6.0 tablet cannot do the same?  All the apps I have tried do not work on the tablet.  It seems a tad strange that no utility can do it.  I am not talking about a kill running apps button.  Just one that closes all recent windows.  My tablet saves them between boots.  Sometimes I have to individually swipe 20 or 30 windows.  This has to have a fix somewhere.

Hahaha.     Made me LOL.
In my years of implementing conventional 3-tier client-server networks and thin client (Citrix) server farms (all Windows-based), it would have been verboten to suggest "fingers crossed" as being a passable/acceptable implementation risk management strategy!
Yet the reality would seem to be that that is exactly what Microsoft are implicitly/tacitly expecting users to do.

You may want to try the chrome based Opera.  There is an Opera AddOn that enables it to use most chrome extensions.  Also it runs multiple exe instances but does not go crazy like chrome.  With default settings it uses fewer instances while still being fast.  A good compromise.  The start page quick launch thing may be kind of quirky but you can beat it into submission with patience.

I found a little "Voice Search" App that is smoother than using the microphone icon.  I put a shortcut where I could access it from all screens:
It is a freebie by Prometheus Interactive.  For simple stuff like IMDB lookups voice works well.  Only thing is you need to wait for the
tone before speaking to get all of the string typed in.

I forgot I had it.

You know you've just made it more confusing, they're shutting Google+ down and the only mention I could find of a Cmd key in Android was a thread you started here asking what it was used for in reference to one particular device

I think it is a Mac thing. My RCA Viking has it on the keyboard but not my RCA Voyager.
The Voyager is stuck at Lollipop.  Walmart is still unloading them with Android 5.  I think
the online update was taken down years ago..

Also now in my notifications I have an option to go to Youtube, Facebook etc..  Where this
stuff is coming from I am not sure.  All my devices do pretty much what they want rather
than what I want anyway.  Sometimes it takes me 1/2 hour to update 2 apps.  Sheesh.

Thanks for the replies.  It seems to be a Google+ feature.  If I select text
and press the Cmd Key I get a Menu and one of the choices is IMDB. Clicking
that works as expected.

Anyone know how to open the IMDB Android App and search in one shot?

What I am doing now is typing
IMDB some search string

into a browser.  But that is losing out on the Android App altogether.  There must be some trick to open Android Apps with an argument.

I guess I miss the Windows "open with" type of deal.  All my devices are Android and I have not figured out how to avoid running an app and waiting for it to open so I can type in whatever I want it to do.  The newest Android I have is 6.0 so nougat and newer tricks will not work for me.  One of my tablets has Android 5 so if it worked from Lollipop up that would be ideal.
