I use Trigger
2  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Recommend a tablet on: October 29, 2014, 07:30:10 AM
Thanks for all your replies.

It turns out while I was researching the options, yesterday afternoon my mother in-law took my 14 year old daughter to the local electronics store and her advice? I quote "No offence Granny but Apple make iPads for simpletons and that would be great for you". Amazingly they are still talking.

My gut feeling is an iPad will be bought!
3  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Recommend a tablet on: October 28, 2014, 08:17:12 AM
My mother in-law has asked me for help in purchasing a tablet for her (screen size of 10" to 12").  She isn't terrible technical (in fact she's dreadful) but what she wants is one that support a physical keyboard and a decent enough front camera.  I am not an Apple fan but the iPad springs to mind as I hear anyone can use them but they seem to be over priced.

I have an ASUS Transformer Prime TF700 but it runs dreadfully slow since one of the Kitkat updates. I resorted to flashing a custom ROM to addressing the issue but it left me with a negative opinion of ASUS.

A Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro could be a contender or possible a Microsoft Surface Pro (I have read another posting on the SP).

Any advice, ideas or suggestions?
4  DonationCoder.com Software / LaunchBar Commander / Re: Linking to .msc console on: October 20, 2014, 03:16:01 AM
I use Windows XP SP3. In my previous post I attached a screenshot showing how I configured event viewer, note you do need to specify 'eventvwr.msc' and not just 'eventvwr' .

I also have it working fine for control panel such as Add\Remove programs '%SystemDirectory%\appwiz.cpl'  For some commands I have had to use crude workarounds using the cmd prompt but while it launches what I need it leaves a command window open which I have to manually close - see screenshot for the set-up.

I can launch event viewer... just fine and I have being doing so for months. I've attached a screenshot of my set-up

I think the bezier curves and would be a nice addition.
7  DonationCoder.com Software / LaunchBar Commander / Re: How to copy\paste a node? on: October 14, 2014, 01:44:54 AM
When it wasn't working I think I wasn't choosing a parent node. Thanks
8  DonationCoder.com Software / LaunchBar Commander / How to copy\paste a node? on: October 13, 2014, 03:39:25 AM
I have a node that I would like to copy, then paste and make a few amendments.  However, when I highlight a menu\node and click Ctrl-C (copy this Subtree to clipboard) and then Ctrl-V nothing happens.  Is there something I am doing wrong here?

On a humorous note, I did a spell check on my post and it suggests I replace 'Ctrl-V' with 'Truelove'  Kiss.  See attachment.

EDIT: I don't know what I was doing wrong but I can now copy and paste cheesy
9  DonationCoder.com Software / Screenshot Captor / Re: So what other helper tools do you use with Screenshot Captor? on: September 30, 2014, 02:36:05 AM
I like where this is going.  I don't use any tools other than Irfanview so it would be interesting to see what other people use and why.
10  DonationCoder.com Software / Screenshot Captor / Re: Screenshot Captor 4.8.7 beta feature: drop file onto current image to combine on: September 24, 2014, 02:13:05 AM
I have already used this new functionality three times (and I don't mean for testing), it's great!  It's something I didn't realise I needed.
11  DonationCoder.com Software / Screenshot Captor / Re: Screenshot Captor 4.8.7 beta feature: drop file onto current image to combine on: September 23, 2014, 03:09:12 AM
I downloaded the latest version and the option not to resize works great.

Dare I suggest another (minor) tweak?  Most times I think I would choose '3 Combine images, putting one next to the other' most times, so make this the default button for me.

Edit: Another option to maybe not show the 'WARNING: You have objects that may not resize properly' after the first time it is shown.

As always keep up the good work.

12  DonationCoder.com Software / Screenshot Captor / Re: Screenshot Captor 4.8.7 beta feature: drop file onto current image to combine on: September 22, 2014, 06:38:44 AM
I like this feature Mouser  Thmbsup

However when adding one image to the other, is there any chance you could allow to to add a smaller image at it's current size an existing larger image and say centre it?  Maybe the unused border could be set using transparency.

I have attached a screenshot where I have combined a smaller image onto a larger image and it doesn't look right.

13  DonationCoder.com Software / Screenshot Captor / Re: Screenshot Captor flagged by anti-virus software for Ml/Swizzor-D on: September 20, 2014, 10:46:59 AM
I am afraid Panda Cloud antivirus is also flagging as suspicious. I just switched it off while I downloaded and installed SSC.

Thanks for that link, potentially very useful  Thmbsup
15  DonationCoder.com Software / LaunchBar Commander / Re: Problems showing hints on: August 11, 2014, 06:32:07 AM
The problem somehow resolved itself for me, presumably with an update since January or maybe it was environmental issue on my PC.

When I switched from the tray to a toolbar then I don't get the hints.

Currently I am running version 4.8.5.

I have in running at home on two Windows 8.1 laptops without issue.
17  DonationCoder.com Software / LaunchBar Commander / Re: Errors/Program Termination on Save on: July 08, 2014, 11:18:57 AM
Sorry but I can't find the steps to reproduce it. It only seems to happen after a few days of not restarting my PC (hibernation) and when I make a change to my settings it bombs out.  As the problem takes days to reproduce it's something I can't help you with.
18  DonationCoder.com Software / LaunchBar Commander / Re: Errors/Program Termination on Save on: July 08, 2014, 10:31:26 AM
I first reported this type of error some time back (see here). It still happens on a regular basis running under Windows XP (using the full version and not the portable one).
19  DonationCoder.com Software / LaunchBar Commander / Re: Issue after installing V1.142.01 on: May 16, 2014, 08:54:11 AM
Hi Mouser,

That took you a little over an hour to get that bug fixed and out for release, I am really impressed!  Sorry I didn't get around to beta testing or I would have caught it then.

Thanks very much for your prompt response.
20  DonationCoder.com Software / LaunchBar Commander / Issue after installing V1.142.01 on: May 16, 2014, 07:09:34 AM
Since upgrading to v1.142.01 I am encountering an issue with Microsoft Lync.

For example I have node type of "Command" with: sip:24609@ad.xxx.yyy (I replaced the last part with xxx & yyy to protect the innocent).  Prior to the upgrade this worked fine but now I get an error "File could not be found to launch: 'sip:60816@ad.xxx.yyy'. Once I close this error dialog, the correct Microsoft Lync window opens as before.  Similarly I am getting this same type of error while trying to run a command prompt (CMD) via LBC.

I can successfully run these commands without issue from the windows run prompt.

Any ideas?

Hey Stoic Joker, maybe that can be a new measure of speed for thumb drives.

Stoic Joker Not pissed off = fast
Stoic Joker pissed off = acceptable
Stoic Joker jumping on his thumb drive = slow (and broken)
22  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Recommend a 64GB\128GB pendrive on: April 02, 2014, 07:41:06 AM
MilesAhead - that is great value for the 64GB @ $33. It's a shame they don't ship outside of the US (at least at a reasonable price).

I found it on www.amazon.co.uk for £29 but to delivery to Ireland (it's only across the water) the seller wanted £30!  Go figure.

So to get it in the US would cost $33 and for me to get it delivered from a UK seller via Amazon would cost me $102 - triple the price.

So there you are in the one post I managed to get the $, £ and the €.

Edit - I added a screenshot of the costs from Amazon UK to Ireland
23  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Recommend a 64GB\128GB pendrive on: April 01, 2014, 06:38:44 AM

I am looking to get myself a USB 3.0 pen\thumb drive.  Many of the sites I go to don't specify read\write speeds so I was wondering if someone could recommend a 64\GB or 128GB drive that has a balance of read\write speeds versus the cost?

Are there other factors I should consider?

24  DonationCoder.com Software / LaunchBar Commander / Problems showing hints on: January 08, 2014, 03:41:17 AM
I raised this issue sometime back but I can't find the thread, however I have more details on the issue.

If I have a dock that is not minimised to the tray, I can get LBC to show hints on items at the top level but not in lower menus.  If I minimise the dock to the tray, then no hints show at all.  I have attached a few screenshots to show what I mean (or at least what I am trying to convey).  I also included a test dock (zipped as I couldn't upload it as it was an invalid extension) that I used for testing the problem.
25  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Collage software recomendation on: January 07, 2014, 09:02:13 AM
No it's not a vision board (I had to look up what it was!). I thought I'd try create a collage with various photographs.  I'd prefer the 'artistic' layout rather than what I would consider the formal straight arrangement.

Google Picasa looks promising and with a price tag I appreciate - free smiley
