26  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Change Folder Icon Color from context menu on: May 10, 2012, 04:27:39 AM
OK seems I found one that works really well: FolderHighlight. The folder colours also become permanent and "portable" (i.e. independent of the folder location and/or presence of the program).

Yeah, it's not free, but $9.95 for a lifetime license seems bearable -- when everything else just doesn't seem to work, or costs like $35 (Folder Marker).

27  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Popup Translator Shootout? on: May 10, 2012, 04:22:27 AM
Since I just couldn't get my former favorite "TranslateClient" to work properly AT ALL unfortunately (especially regarding the hotkey activation), I just identified QTranslate, which seems to work really well. I also like the standard hotkey "Double Ctrl."

This has a lot of potential to become my favorite popup translator!

28  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Change Folder Icon Color from context menu on: May 09, 2012, 03:02:54 PM
Thanks -- but hmmm, doesn't seem to work, only gives me a "wrong parameter" error when choosing some color from the context menu.

This (seemingly) bl**dy simple colored folder stuff seems totally bewitched to me......

Nothing that really works here...
29  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Change Folder Icon Color from context menu on: May 09, 2012, 04:53:02 AM
Hi forum,

I have been searching my ass off looking for a simple replacement for iColorfolder (because it doesn't work in Windows 7).

But I could not find ANY alternative that was free and actually did work!

I have tried all tools suggested here:
http://alternativeto.net/software/folder-marker/

Either they were not free, did not work at all (crashed), or would not allow to simply have like seven colors or so to choose from in the context menu (like below with the "Folder Colorizer" tool that would be great if it actually worked reliably which it however doesn't):

Thanks already for any other software hints

30  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Does anyone know any free alternative to Driver Updater Pro? on: May 06, 2012, 12:07:12 AM
I used Drivermax Pro a couple of times with good success. However then one time, it installed lots of wrong drivers and I had to to a system restore.

At the moment I give DriverEasy a try. It seems to identify missing drivers fast and reliably. However the driver download is very slow in the free version.

Thanks for any experiences towards other alternatives,

Cheers David.P

Great stuff.

Now there is basically only one step more: find out how those Start Menu search keywords could be extracted/utilized by FARR.
32  DonationCoder.com Software / Find And Run Robot / Re: Include Windows 7 Start Button Search Results in FARR? on: May 03, 2012, 06:13:06 AM
Ah that worked -- thanks!
33  DonationCoder.com Software / Find And Run Robot / Re: Include Windows 7 Start Button Search Results in FARR? on: May 03, 2012, 05:36:51 AM
I renamed the shortcuts so that they too had "(cpanel)" in the name

Hmmm, that didn't work for me...

It seems as if the target syntax (colons) is somewhat different between the original FARR cpanel shortcuts and the ones copied from the Godmode folder:

All shortcuts however work if simply double-clicked! Only FARR doesn't seem to see them  redface

34  DonationCoder.com Software / Find And Run Robot / Re: Include Windows 7 Start Button Search Results in FARR? on: May 02, 2012, 11:33:50 AM
Off-topic but FWIW, I personally have copied the God Mouser mode shortcuts to the FindAndRunRobot\Scripts\Control Panel (cpanel) folder, so I can get those.

How did you to that? I have tried and copied the respective *.lnk files to this folder, but FARR doesn't give me results when typing any of those files' names (only the original ones with "cpanel" in their name still work).

35  DonationCoder.com Software / Find And Run Robot / Re: Include Windows 7 Start Button Search Results in FARR? on: April 22, 2012, 06:49:09 AM
Mouser, I'm not sure where these entries actually are stored.

A first step however could be the behaviour of the Win7 god mode. If you install God Mode:
http://howto.cnet.com/830...nding-windows-7s-godmode/

...and then open it in Windows Explorer, when typing something into the Explorer window's search field (top right), what you get in the Explorer window are the same results as if you had typed your search into the Start Menu search.

Interestingly, the God-Mode Explorer Window also reveals the search keywords for every entry like in below screenshot:

Note that there even are lots and lots of misspelled keywords -- in order for people to find for example "Bildschirmschoner" (screen saver) when they wrongly type "Bidschirm". (FARR of course is much more intelligent in this respect, as it doesn't need "lists of misspellings").

Unfortunately, for example the (misspelled) entry "Bidschirm" is not to be found in the Registry, neither via full text search in the entire system partition....

Some but not all of the search strings seem to be contained in a file called "access.h1s" in the C:\Windows\Help\Windows\[language] folder.

That's all I could find out for the moment...

Regards
David

36  DonationCoder.com Software / Find And Run Robot / Include Windows 7 Start Button Search Results in FARR? on: April 19, 2012, 09:21:58 AM
Hi mouser & forum,

is it possible for FARR to include the results of the Windows 7 Start Button/Start Menu search? (at least the ones that are in some way Windows/Control Panel related)

For example, if I start to type "Window M....." into the Start Button search box, Windows 7 gives me "change window colors and metrics" (which accidentally is exactly what I was looking for;)

So, can FARR do this as well? -- in order for not having to use FARR and the Start Button search box if looking for things where you are not sure if it might be a program, setting, control panel or whatever.

Thanks already
Cheers David.P

37  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Do you know a free HTML editor with real time preview in adjacent pane? on: March 28, 2012, 05:40:32 PM
I just installed the 2007 Sharepoint Designer to evaluate it again, but it didn't create an icon on my desktop.
Can you tell me where to find the .exe so I can run it?
huh

Should be somewhere around these parts:

\[Programs]\Microsoft Office\Office12\SPDESIGN.EXE

Alleycode? I thought we were discussing the functions of SharePoint Designer, lastly.

Anyway, I'll go for the latter -- I really have come to like it.

39  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Do you know a free HTML editor with real time preview in adjacent pane? on: March 28, 2012, 01:25:52 PM
hmmm, SharePoint Designer, and "way too few HTML editing functions"...?

Are we talking about the same software?

My impression is that SharePoint Designer is almost overly complex, compared to most Editors that have been mentioned in this thread:

Actually I think I'll stick with SharePoint Designer because it's WYSIWYG-editing capabilities, and synchronized source code view are the best I've seen so far in any software I've tried.

Btw, neither Webcoder, nor MyEclipse or Alleycode have been mentioned before.
40  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Do you know a free HTML editor with real time preview in adjacent pane? on: March 28, 2012, 01:57:04 AM
Hank, what was wrong with SharePoint Designer?

I had to make sure to get the 2007 version (not the 2010 version) because the former doesn't need access to SharePoint (whatever that is) in order to edit my webpages.

Regards David.P

PS: two more editors with split screen mode -- and two caveats: 1.) I haven't tried them and 2.) they are payware.

OK, two more free Editors that look very promising are a) Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007, and b) Amaya.

While both have WYSIWYG editing and synchronized html source split view/edit, SharePoint Designer probably is somewhat overly complex for simple editing tasks.

Amaya OTOH seems to have just the right degree of complexity vs. functions for doing quick edits on a page.

Ahh what a great thread -- albeit not with a clear result/winner (if I'm right).

I'm basically looking for something similar as Hank was:

A HTML editor that allows fast and easy editing (basically of existing websites), especially including fast text formatting like bolding, text highlighter etc.

The editor can be simple, but it must be capable of handling complex websites with lots of CSS and stuff without breaking the site's layout or source code.

I'd actually prefer a WYSIWYG pane for simple text editing as well, although a fast preview pane with synchronous scrolling could also be acceptable. Mozilla Kompozer comes very close -- but unfortunately is discontinued, and its supposed successor, Bluegriffon, is not quite up to par with Kompozer's features and ease of editing. OTOH, Kompozer does not have html syntax highlighting, oh well.

I'm actually somewhat hopeless because the following list shows what I've already tried (including Blog and Bulk Mail HTML editors):

1st Page 2006
AFSS - HTML Designer 2.3
BestAddress HTML Editor
Blink HTML Editor
BlockNote HTML Editor
BlogDesk html (blog) editor
Blogjet html (blog) editor
CoffeCup The HTML Editor 12.5 (yucky runtime GUI, no WYSIWYG editor anymore)
e-campaign, html (bulk email) editor
FreeLabs HTML Editor
Fresh HTML Designer (no CSS-Layout)
Htmlpad html editor no WYSIWYG-editing
Microsoft Expression Web HTML Editor (graphics errors, crashed)
NetObjects Fusion Essentials HTML Editor (outdated)
Outlook Express HTML E-Mail Editor
PageBreeze (free) HTML Editor, no Highlighter
Phase-5-HTML-Editor
Post2Blog html (blog) editor
Sendblaster, html (bulk email) editor
SoThink (CuteHtml) HTML Designer
Trellian Webpage 3
Trellian Webpage 4
Vodamail 10, html (bulk email) editor
W.Bloggar, html (blog) editor
WinCHM HTML MHT Editor
Windows Live Mail, HTML E-Mail Editor no text marker
WizHTML HTML E-Mail Editor
www-sharp HTML Editor
Zoundry Raven, html (blog) editor

Thus, I'd be VERY happy if someone could recommend yet another HTML editor.... :(

Possibly THE ONE KILLER APP  no one has ever heard of (or something;)

Thanks heaps already

1. do not select any text and leave the caret in proper place,
2. hit URL button then,
3. Define URL window will appear, where you can define your link's description.

I see! This works as expected. Thanks!

44  Other Software / Announce Your Software/Service/Product / "Image" and "Link" button function in BBCEditor on: May 06, 2011, 03:47:29 AM
Hi forum & Fenix,

for some reason I haven't used BBCEditor for a while and now wanted to switch to it for good in order to write (actually dictate) all my forum posts.

Writing and dictating works great, as does formatting and WYSIWYG preview.

However, the buttons for image and link insertion don't seem to work the way I expected...

Usually, in order to create a link in a post, I would copy the link's URL into the clipboard, then type the link's name or description into the posting's text, select that link name/description, hit the "Link" button and be presented with a dialog input box where I can insert the link's URL -- in other words, exactly the way it goes when inserting a link e.g with this forum's (DC) post editor:

However, BBCeditor doesn't seem to do that. It only enters [ url][/url ] tags around the selection when I press the Link button. Thus, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to create named links in BBCeditor?

Additionally, the "Image" Button doesn't seem to work at all? Usually, in order to enter an image in a forum's post, I'd expect to be able to copy the image's URL into the clipboard, then press the "Image" button in the editor, then I'd be presented with a dialog input box where I can insert the image's URL and hit Enter.

Alternatively, I'd simply paste the image URL directly into the text, select it, hit the "Image" button and would expect the (pasted) image URL to get surrounded by [ img] tags.

This however doesn't seem to be the case in BBCeditor.

I don't know, maybe I am missing out on something?

-- Therefore, thanks heaps already for any clue regarding easier insertion of images and (named) links into BBCode forum posts using BBCeditor,

Cheers David.P

47  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Move dialog boxes to the center of the (correct) monitor on: April 14, 2011, 02:46:01 AM
It's the same on single monitors: for example the start menu gets moved to the center in my case (admittedly at least partially caused because I wanted DialogMove to center windows even when the mouse is already over them, see further up the thread).

I guess that probably around these parts in DialogMove something (?) would have to be changed in order not to detect windows without title bars:

[copy or print]
   WinGetTitle,WinTitle,ahk_id %ActiveWindow%
   WinClass=ahk_class%A_space%%Winclass%
   If NotDetectableWindow(WinTitle,WinClass)
     return
48  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Move dialog boxes to the center of the (correct) monitor on: April 14, 2011, 01:17:26 AM
Yeah, but how can I insert "Blank" or "nil" into DialogMove's preferences then?
49  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Move dialog boxes to the center of the (correct) monitor on: April 13, 2011, 07:10:30 AM
I know -- but I'd rather not having to maintain an ever growing black list... Instead, I'd very much like to tell the program: "ONLY touch things that have a title bar".

Can that be done?
50  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Move dialog boxes to the center of the (correct) monitor on: April 13, 2011, 03:27:09 AM
Still very happy with this variation of DialogMove.

Only one question: is there a (simple) way to prevent movement of things that are no "proper" windows (e.g. with title bars)?

At the moment, DialogMove even moves floating (tray) notifications, context menus and even the start menu (to the center of the screen).

I'd however really only need "regular" popup windows and program dialogs to be moved. Everything else should not be touched.

Is there a way to do that, i.e. to exclude things that have no title bar from being touched by DialogMove?

Thanks heaps
David
