4501  DonationCoder.com Software / Screenshot Captor / Re: Problem with windowblinds + a couple of suggestions on: January 29, 2006, 07:01:16 AM
Hey Alex!
That is some seriously strange behaviour going on there..
Some of mouser programs have problems with windows with different (bigger) font types than the default ones. Do you think it could have something to do with that? If it does, mouser is already aware of that Wink
As for 4, you already can right-click the image on the left pane and access that menu, or do you mean having that menu as a button on sc?
4502  DonationCoder.com Software / ContextMenu Commander / Re: ContextMenu Commander on: January 29, 2006, 06:56:42 AM
I just found out Stardock's Right Click. Although not free, I think it's also worth mentioning.
4503  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: What's your favorite launch bar? Your favorite features? Missing Features? on: January 29, 2006, 05:35:10 AM
GroupBar is sooo nice!
It's just a shame it's sooo buggy to.. Sad
But it's a very interesting concept, i think it deserves much attention!
Isn't there another program similar to GroupBar? (one that really works? Wink )
4504  DonationCoder.com Software / Find And Run Robot / Re: Another similar app (disclaimer: I haven't tried it) on: January 28, 2006, 08:17:45 PM
Thmbsup Thmbsup
Exactly! Actually, i didn't think about the possibility of adding this option to the "keyboard-accessed context menu options" on the results mentioned before, but it sure is a perfect solution for the problem!
Thanks!!
(at last, i can sleep without worries.. Wink )
4505  DonationCoder.com Software / Find And Run Robot / Re: Another similar app (disclaimer: I haven't tried it) on: January 28, 2006, 07:01:41 PM
I guess i should have been more specific on how easy it is to create aliases with typeandrun.
Here goes a small tuturial and a few suggestions:
I'll create an alias for screenshotcaptor:
First, i call typeandrun, and write the full path of sc (with auto-complete, it's fairly easy, but in farr, it is even easier, since i only have to type the name of the app.):

then, i press ctrl + n and get this:

i press enter, and it's done Wink
The things i want to demonstrate here are that in farr, i wouldn't even have to write the full path, so, I'd only write "screen" and sc would be the first result, then i would press ctrl+n (one important thing here, is that this interface would only work for the first result) and then, I'd press enter, since the name of the alias was already there, as it is the name of the app.
To add to an already existing group alias, i think ctrl+shift+n could make a dialog appear with all the aliases groups, I'd select one, press enter to select it and enter to confirm configuration, and I'd have an app added to an alias.
Don't you agree with me that this just brings alias to another level? They become much more practical and easy to create.
(BTW, i don't like to use my mouse when I'm typing, that's the only reason I'm insisting on this..sorry)

allen, the thread you were looking for is here (at least, i think this was the one mouser was referring to)

Amadawn.. Good find! Rocket Dock is very good, and better than YzDock, the zooming is far more smooth, and it still is being developed.. Great cheesy
4508  DonationCoder.com Software / Find And Run Robot / Re: Inconsistencies in file matching on: January 28, 2006, 01:18:30 PM
Acrystal.. I think your problem has nothing to do with farr inconsistencies..
Farr doesn't search for folders, only files.
What you can do is add shortcuts to your folders somewhere in a folder that farr searches.
If you've detected such problems with files, please post the problems so as we (mouser  tellme) can enlighten you cheesy
(if you'd really like farr to be able to search for folders, please post your love for farr to help us persuade mouser to launch the new farr v2 Wink )
4509  DonationCoder.com Software / Find And Run Robot / Re: Another similar app (disclaimer: I haven't tried it) on: January 28, 2006, 01:11:21 PM
I've never used Quicksilver, but I've used colibri, and yes, colibri searches for non-contiguous letters, which i think is an important feature missing in farr Sad
The question for you, mouser is this: will this feature make farr search slower? (i hope not, but my small programming experience tells me it will do.. Sad )
Another thing that mouser mentioned were the aliases. IMO, they are very powerfull, a bit hard to use, but most of all, not very practical... At least, not until mouser adds a hotkey to create and update them... (please... please... make aliases more practical... make me not need typeandrun.. Wink Wink )
4510  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Finally a DonationCoder.com License Key for Time Travelers.. on: January 28, 2006, 09:15:58 AM
. . . I guess this officially makes DC's software licensing policy out of this world.
lol lol lol  AhAhAhAh!  lol lol lol
(actually, the whole idea of donation coder is already out of this world Wink ) Thmbsup Thmbsup
4511  DonationCoder.com Software / Find And Run Robot / Re: Integrate into taskbar on: January 28, 2006, 04:58:47 AM
I was thinking: This idea might be nice, that way, there would be no need for a hotkey (well, maybe to focus), and it would look good, a bit like google search Wink
But it has some problems:
1) those people who don't have taskbars, still need the "normal" farr (don't think this is that much of a problem..)
2) identifying the results can get a bit strange, since you'd have the popup comming upwards from the bar, it would generate a strange behaviour from farr..Try selecting the option "edit bar on the bottom". It becomes quite hard to select the first option, since it isn't right below the edit bar. At least I can't use it like that.
3) maybe it would be only more work for mouser to accomplish an option that people would use in the beginning because it's nice to the eye, but would stop using later since it's not very handy.

just my two cents smiley

@Amadawn:
Check This Post, here are some similar programs to LaunchBar Commander.
(I also don't know exactly what LaunchBar Comm is, i just took it from from the examples, hope my idea is right)
4513  DonationCoder.com Software / Find And Run Robot / Re: All these F+R ideas are wonderful on: January 27, 2006, 08:51:37 PM
I wouldn't guess hat farr is one of the least downloaded apps on dc...It's the one i use the most..LOL
(Maybe i'm just weird..)
4514  DonationCoder.com Software / LaunchBar Commander / Re: Similar apps for collecting ideas thread on: January 27, 2006, 08:46:42 PM
I think that YzDock also is qualified to enter this thread.
I think it has been discontinued, but for some information, check here
4515  DonationCoder.com Software / Screenshot Captor / Re: What is the best image format to save screenshots from desktop programs? on: January 27, 2006, 08:38:44 PM
Mouser: good to know that!
I already knew that the file name could be changed there, but i didn't realize that it would also change the format...
Great feature!  Thmbsup Thmbsup Thmbsup
4516  DonationCoder.com Software / Find And Run Robot / Re: Feature Request V2 — Task Control on: January 27, 2006, 08:36:41 PM
Today, i used colibri for the second time to test the way the setting were accessed.
It actually does some sense, and i think it could be the answer to this problem.
I'm not a big fan of "right arrow" or something like that, i prefer "tab".
To access colibri's settings, you type:
"colibri" (only the first letters are necessary)
press "tab"
and the options bellow change, and the options over that app become available, then, you type:
"settings" (again, only first letters needed)
"tab"
and the settings appear bellow.you type:
"hotkey" (blabla)
and enter
and you have accessed the hotkey settings.
For any other program, you'd do: (example: screenshot captor)
"screenshot captor"
'tab'
"close"
'enter'
To close it. For me, this makes sense. (to go back one level, you can press shift + tab, or use the arrow keys, i think)
IMO, this would be a great way to handle the interface to manage open processes, the only problem would be for those of us that use tab to cycle through the various results.Although i think that when farr has the ability to search for various not-contiguous words, there might not be any need to select another result other than the first.
4517  DonationCoder.com Software / Screenshot Captor / Re: Mouse Wheel suggestion on: January 27, 2006, 04:00:50 PM
I don't think i agree with you masu. Only because the left pane is like a file explorer, it shoud behave like one.
The problem is if you have several images in that folder. If you're seing the first one, you'd have to load each one of them to access the last one.
I know, you can always use the scroll bar, but I'm lazy tongue
(just my $.02 Wink )
4518  DonationCoder.com Software / Screenshot Captor / Re: What is the best image format to save screenshots from desktop programs? on: January 27, 2006, 03:03:44 PM
I think i've read somewhere that png doesn't lose quality and has compression, so it seems to me that it is the best format o use.
I have my sc configured to take screenshots on png, and when i want to send the picture to someone, i just do "save copy as" in jpg format cheesy
The only problem is having to delete the first screenshot, but i don't think i'll die for a few seconds (or will i? Wink )
4519  DonationCoder.com Software / Find And Run Robot / Re: What happened to the "Improve icon" on the ToDo list? on: January 27, 2006, 02:41:07 PM
I agree with jdmarch.
Although Ruunba makes sense (i've checked the Roomba, and it seems a nice thing to keep around cheesy), it is too similar to creative's "rhomba", and farr has nothing to do with an mp3 player Wink

What i mean is that it needs a better name (or maybe a better achronym, since it has that problem with being farr,f&rr,fr, etc,etc..), but i just think it should be something catchy, and not similar to something existant, as it could generate confusion...
I know this isn't a very constructive critic, but i couldn't find a better name. Maybe thinking of a better achronym would be the way to go.

ps: jdmarch made a good point. There already are some good critics on farr, it wouldn't be good to lose them by changing the name too much.
4520  DonationCoder.com Software / LaunchBar Commander / Re: Similar apps for collecting ideas thread on: January 27, 2006, 02:23:58 PM
This is a great thread, stefan! It should be used in all dc's software cheesy
Can PowerPro be counted in this list?
(i think it has some similar functions, not sure. PowerPro users, please enlight me Wink )

This app was being mentioned in the irc channel, and i thought i should divulge it.
Check StrokeIt, a program for creating mouse gestures for every app you have cheesy cheesy
Check FileForum for ratings and reviews.
I just love this program, and so do other forum users, as they have it mentioned in the "what app do you keep running all day?" thread!

4523  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Which app stays open on your desktop all day? on: January 26, 2006, 05:48:29 PM
hum..i see, if you use cmd more directed at .bat files,t&r can't help you with that (i think), and the directory-sensitive part sure is a limiter, since you need to have cmd open
I've just checked uberbox, (i also run bblean), and i found it quite useful, but not as much as t&r (imo). Disregarding that it looks ugly  tellme, it's nice that it has the option to send bbroams, which can be usefull, and that is has a low footprint (if it has any..lol). But t&r allows you to do a bit more, you can create aliases with arguments, and the autocomplete function is far more advanced, as it really completes, not only with history paths but also with the ones that exist in your drive. The only problem about t&r is it's high footprint, about 7mb in ram Sad
Anyways, please check it (it has no installation, just decompress and run cheesy ) and post your opinion!
You still don't use farr? I think it's very handy, for all those things that normal people (i.e. non-bb users) have in start menu. I used to open explorer to manually open the apps i didn't have in right-click (or middle-click,or x1click,or x2click for that matter), since i got tired of making and updating lots of menus really fast Wink
4524  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Which app stays open on your desktop all day? on: January 26, 2006, 05:08:00 PM
@ mouser:
type and run is an extremelly interesting app. I found it before i found farr, and when i found farr, i thought "well, there goes typeandrun, farr can do everything t&r does, and even more". But surprisingly, they just coexist, to be honest, i love farr, but it simply isn't as practical as t&r, that's why it's the one i use most among those two, because it's more versatile. Maybe it's my computer, but farr isn't nearly as fast finding stuff, because it has to search for it, and creating new aliases is too time consuming (and it also has strange focus problem, sometimes when i load it, it doesn't have the focus, maybe it's because of blackbox Sad )

@fooder:
cmd.exe? nice..that's leet  tellme
check typeandrun i mentioned on my last post. i bet you will find it a bit handier that cmd.exe (at least, i do Wink )

Reviving this thread  tellme

I have:
Opera (it takes too much time to load, i just keep it open all day)
Find And Run Robot ( my start button )
Type And Run ( my run box )
Winamp ( the best music player there is.. yes, i don't like foobar )
All Snap (great small app, when you use it once, you can't live without it)
Various ahk scripts (i mean.. they do everything, and even more Wink )
Msn Messenger (still, i prefer the original msnmessenger to any third party app)
Miranda (the best way to got to DC's chat)
Process Tammer (keeping an eye for those strange-acting apps)
Mobile Meter (just to keep my computer's frequency and temperature controlled)
Kaspersky Antivirus (unfortunatelly, necessary Sad )
PSPad (usually editing some ahk script Wink )
Directory Opus (like Opera, it's best to leave it running)
