1  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Full text on desktop icons on: March 31, 2007, 05:56:27 PM
When filenames for desktop icons get too long windows automatically limits them to two lines. Usually that's ok, but when I have icons on the desktop that are not shortcuts (i.e. pdf files) they limit the lines of text for the name to 1. I.e. Verylongword.pdf becomes Verylo.....

When you click on an icon, the full name shows up, but I would like the text to be there even when the icon isn't clicked. I looked through TuneUp and other programs but they don't seem to have an option to do this... anyone know any programs or know a way to let me control the lines that each icon can display on the desktop?

Thanks =)

does anyone have any idea of even how to tackle this? there has been a lot of talk about directx10 and stuff, would it be possible to make a program like this for windows vista since it unifies a lot of different kinds of graphics coding?
3  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Keep a full screen window on top in a dual monitor setting on: March 05, 2007, 04:01:01 PM
I think the title explains most of it.. I have a two 19" monitor setup, and sometimes I am playing a game or something one the left side in full screen. Sometimes I want to do something else on the right screen, such as write a paper or browse the web. However, since the game is in full screen, whenever I move my mouse over to the right side and click on a window, the game minimizes on the left screen.

I tried using autohotkey and a couple of other programs, but I don't think that code which keeps windows on top apply to directx/full screen applications (i.e. applications that don't have a minimize/resize/close button on the top right).

I haven't been able to find anything that would let me do what I do. If someone can find a program that does that, then please post it =) otherwise, anyone interesting in tackling this problem?

Thanks!
4  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / IDEA: limiting audio to one source on: June 25, 2006, 07:09:33 PM
i was wondering if someone could make a quick app where pressing a hotkey would allow me to mute all programs except for a program i specify, i.e. winamp.

i have aim, a tv tuner, and i also play games, and sometimes i just want to listen to music and nothing else, but it's a big hassle to always turn on and off the volumes for each program. any help would be appreciated =)
5  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: need help on an annoying keyboard problem on: March 05, 2006, 11:57:09 PM
thanks mate =)  it turns out that the w key affects my typings as well as gaming so, it seems like i'm gonna have to get it fixed after all =| however, using the script really helps the typing part so thanks =) i'll use it for now
6  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: need help on an annoying keyboard problem on: March 02, 2006, 06:21:35 PM
no luck =| it only allows an option of .5 seconds, which is too slow for me. guess i'm gonna have to repair it =|
7  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: need help on an annoying keyboard problem on: March 02, 2006, 12:47:07 AM
this keyboard uses "x-type" technology or something like that, it's different from most keyboards =| for reference, it's a benq x730 slim wireless keyboard
8  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / IDEA: need help on an annoying keyboard problem on: March 01, 2006, 11:38:27 PM
I just got a keyboard a little over a month ago and it's already malfunctioning =| definitely a bummer, but it's a wireless keyboard and so i don't want to shell out money for a new one

basically, my "w" has become very, very sensitive. i don't know how it malfunctions, but basically, if i even slightly press the "w" key, the keyboard will register it as a keystroke (without pressing it down all the way). a lot of times i find myself accidentally resting a finger on the key and it registers the 'w' key leading to a string of w's like wwwwwwwwwww.

howewer, it gets worse. if i press the "w" key all the way down, it registers another keystroke. if i don't press the "w" key fast enough, the keyboard registers the "w" as being pressed twice, once for just touching the key and once for actually pressing the key. this gets VERY annoying when i'm typing, because when i'm typing fast i often type something like "wwhen" or "wwww" instead of "www" the only way i can bypass this problem is if i press the "w" key very fast, and only then will it register one keystroke. howwever, i can only do that with lots of concentration and it's a pain in the butt. finally, one last snitch; if i release the "w" key slowly, it will also register another "w" keypress, so i can technically type "www" with one keypress.

so basically, i know a solution but i need help coding it....

can someone write a quick autohotkey script that will only let 1 instance of the "w" key occur over a specific time? for example, if windows detects that the "w" key is pressed twice within .3 seconds or .5 seconds (or an x amount of time), only one instance of the "w" will be recorded and inputted into the program. however, if the "w" key is pressed and held, it should continue acting like any other key that is pressed and held (most notably for gaming)

thanks!

thanks mouser =) the tutorial was most enlightening
10  DonationCoder.com Software / Finished Programs / Re: Automatic Program Queuing on: February 09, 2006, 02:46:55 PM
hehe i don't know how i missed that =P

the program looks really complicated tho =| maybe some kind of modification can be made to drag and drop so that if a specified program (such as winrar) is opened more than once, it will prevent the second and following instances of winrar from opening until the previous one has finished running?

thanks
11  DonationCoder.com Software / Finished Programs / DONE: Automatic Program Queuing on: February 08, 2006, 12:43:29 PM
I was extracting large files the other day using winrar and it was a pain because since they were in different folders I had to extract them one at a time, and I had to actually attend the computer to do this.

So I was thinking about this and I came up with a good program idea =)

Basically, the idea is for a program to queue programs on the list, for example -

1) there is a list of programs that will be automatically queued if you open it more than once (like winrar)
2) when one instance of winrar finishes, the next winrar in queue is automatically started

of course, this can apply to any other program types as well.

cool, thanks =) this works well with autohotkey
13  DonationCoder.com Software / Finished Programs / DONE: small prog to hide desktop icons on: January 31, 2006, 08:11:17 PM
my desktop is fairly cluttered but i like easy access to my icons; i don't like other programs that try putting icons in a menu or whatnot

is there or can someone make a program that will hide all the icons on the desktop with a keypress? preserving the location of the icons would also be important. finally, it would be really nice if icon locations could be preserved by resolution; for example, if i am usually in 1280x1024 but i switch to 800x600 but then i switch back to the original resolution it would be nice if the icons could automatically revert to its original locations

thanks =)

14  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / help with the windows palette on: January 05, 2006, 07:15:19 PM
so i've been playing around w/ windows visual styles a bit, and i found the perfect visual style except for one thing - the default font they choose is gray!!!!

it really really bothers me, but eveything else about the theme works well. i tried going to Display->Appearance->Advanced and tweaking everything to black, but even then a lot of things in my window are gray (like AIM, for instance)

so question is: how do i change the default palette/system color for fonts to black? is there a program that can do that?

question2: is there any program that can work with the filetype .msstyles directly?

thanks =)
15  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: explorer extensions on: January 01, 2006, 12:07:06 AM
thanks alot =) those programs are really helpful
16  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / explorer extensions on: December 31, 2005, 01:27:34 PM
i doodle a lot with files and mp3 and i like to organize them. i use windows explorer a lot and sometimes it's hassle to move files repeatedly from one directory to another directory, especially when the directories are so far apart that i have to scroll everytime.

i know that if you right click on a file there's a option called "Send To." can anyone do a little prog so that you can add more locations under "send to" so that I can send files/folders to specific folders/locations?

secondly, as i type this, i also realize i have a lot of crap stuff on my right clink from programs i don't use anymore... maybe someone can code a general explorer extension control panel, to add/delete any buttons from the right click?

thanks =)
17  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / psp region question on: December 30, 2005, 10:22:29 AM
i know this is a pretty random question to ask in this board, but it's quick and painless so here we go =)

a friend of mine got a psp from his mom awhile ago but didn't want it, so he's been trying to sell his psp. he's been asking for $200 (value pack + 1 game), but i think i can bargain him down to $150 for it. so basically, it's a pretty sweet deal. the only problem is, is that his PSP is from Hong Kong, and I live in the US. I was wondering that if i bought an psp game from the US, whether it would work on his hong kong version psp. does psp have regions, like dvds? finally, will i be able to change the language to english?

thanks!

While probably not what you're looking for, http://www.musikcube.com/ is another nice player - really good if you have a huge collection of files, since it pre-indexes to a database so it doesn't have to re-read ID3 tags etc. all the time. Fast searches!

just checked musikCube out, and i have to give it props, it's a really cool program :-D i use foobar, but musikcube doesn't need major fiddling around to get it to work. thanks =)
19  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Small App To Turn Background Windows Transparent Automatically on: December 24, 2005, 11:51:43 AM
transother makes lags windows a bit, and makes dragging windows and switching between windows really slow. i guess there's no way around that until vista comes out?
20  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Advanced Text Replacement on: December 24, 2005, 11:31:45 AM
Hey wait,
i found a prog =D and it's free!!! =)

link: http://www.albert.nu/default.asp

the prog is called Renamer 6.0. works on files and folders, allows you to do macros, and has a lot of very customizable functions. an extremely helpful program. i just tinkered around with this for about 30 min ago, and it does just about anything i need; the kicked is the macro thingie.

to do what i wanted i did this:
1) created a macro that replaced all "." after letters (26 steps for 26 letters) with spaces, so "hello.world.v1.2" becomes "hello world v1.2" this is especially helpful because it keeps the "." between the version numbers
2) you can do the same thing for underscores

have fun =)

thanks for the help mouser =)
21  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Advanced Text Replacement on: December 24, 2005, 10:45:16 AM
did a internet-wide search, this is what i found

SkyJuice has two programs that can do this, but they're both shareware (fast folder renamer is a 300k prog selling for $15!!!! no way!)
link: http://www.skyjuicesoftware.com/index.html

FoldMonkey also seems to do the trick, except it's shareware too
http://www.monkeyjob.com/FoldMonk.html

if i could do this myself i would, but i haven't touched vb or c++ in 3 years =|
22  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Advanced Text Replacement on: December 23, 2005, 08:51:21 PM
eRename is a pretty cool file but it works only with filenames that have the same filename. i'm actually looking more for a small proggie that can change folder names too?

maybe have a text field where you can drag folders into and then edit with a batch renamer or by just clicking on the folder?

thanks for the help guys
23  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Advanced Text Replacement on: December 23, 2005, 12:33:32 PM
A lot of word processing programs have a "replace" function where you can replace for, example, all "hello.world" to "hello w." I was wondering if anyone could do a more advanced version of this kind of functionality?

1) not only rename & replace words, but also folders and files
2) ability to replace/rename words only under certain circumstances
     a) for example, if i had "hello.world.v1.2", i would want to remove all the periods "." except for the ones between v1.2, so that it would become "hello world v1.2"
3) for renaming, have a special shell extension that lets you rename files and folders with one click instead of two, as with windows explorer?

anyone with other ideas for this little prog can add in, but that's all i can come up with for now. cheers =)
