Played it today with my 9-year-old daughter. We both played it for the first time. She won :o

That looks very interesting. Can you also list (or remove) unwanted updates which have already been installed?

That's what the script I wrote up here does, although it just goes ahead and uninstalls them, (or at least tries).

But I was thinking of combining it with this one since it can use the same list of unwanted KBs.

Worked like a charm! Very cool actually. Thanks

Looking great now

Yeah i think the forum is starting to look quite nice now!

Yes, great job mouser (and whoever else is helping)!

I thought I had visited the supporters yearbook after the upgrade, but now I can't find it any more.

Here: https://www.donation...on=mlist;sa=yearbook

I think @phitsc means how do you get to it, I can't find a link on the forum to it either.

EDIT: Found it, the supporters link in the fifth paragraph on the About page.  I think it could be buried a little deeper  :P

Ah, there it is. Thanks for letting me know

I didn't mean to say mouser or Stephen66515 or anyone else working on the technical aspects of the CMS need to come up with new content. I was saying let DC members give DC the gift of new content to celebrate its renewal. I was just suggesting though, not trying to convince anyone. So never mind...

83
I have no problem if you guys do A and B first. What I'm suggesting is that we go live with plenty of C.

84
^ Ah okay - you had moved the info-center - I thought you were talking about the default setting.

I still wonder if the info-center / active-thread should be on top in the default setting (I guess it would have to be separated from the other info, but dont know really - must try it at the top myself, see how I like it).
Try it Tom, because at whatever level of fanciness you work on, "nothing else matters". The scripts behind it are Turbo Fast at collecting posts, and if you look at time stamps (in the same area) you know that if you check it 4x a day you're mostly caught up. At worst, if you *know* there's a thread missing like my Ludum Dare adventures, you turn to one of the bigger pages and find it. But it really is damn close to a Golden Mean to keep reg DC folks updated.

Or just use Unread: All and always *know* you're up to date... right? I'm confused why people like the other approach frankly. It seems haphazard. But I've certainly come to realize that my consistent use of Unread: All pages is not really the norm, so maybe I'm the weirdo. :D

- Oshyan

Maybe not the norm, but it is the approach that I use also. :)

Yes, me as well.

Ok, was searching this thread because I wanted to make a suggestion: how about we come up with some original content to celebrate the switch to a proper cms. Was thinking about stuff like reviews, short stories, new SW, member discounts, whatever.

Do you mean this suggestion Phil?  We are working like mad on the CMS at the moment and I fear mousers brain is close to exploding with everything that needs doing so he may have simply overlooked it :)

Yep, that's the one

Thought it would be a shame to have an all shiny and new CMS but only old stuff to put into it  ;)

86
mouser, I'm note sure if your ignorance of my suggestion means disapproval, or if you're still considering, or if you just did not see it? I'm ok with either but if something in line with what I've suggested would be an idea worth persuing then the community would need some lead time for preparation of such content.

Developer's Corner / Re: Hack font v.2

I find it fascinating how many 'programming' fonts there are, and how everyone has their favorite even more so.

88
I've tweaked the search function a little bit -- I think i fixed a bug where it was returning less results than it should.  And I also added an option to bypass the search index on the advanced search form -- this will result in a slower and more thorough search for partial word matches, and is able to search for words less than 4 characters.  Normal indexed searching is appropriate for most searches, but you now have an option if you can't find something with a default search.

Thanks!

Why does this topic not show up right at the top of the search results when I search for 'cms' on advanced search sorting by newest first (even though it contains the word cms)? First result is a topic from Feb. 2014.

I actually like the rounded i (which is also why I like the l better than the Consolas one). Excellent idea with the comparison gif!

The only thing bothering me so far is the fact that Hack's 1 looks like Consolas' lower-case l, which I'm obviously very used to now. And I like the look of Consolas' 1 better as well. On the other hand I like Hack's lower-case l better :)

Christopher Simpkins and others' hack font, which I neither knew nor have used (obviously) has been renewed. It presents itself as 'a typeface designed for source code' and is open source. I'm trying it right now and it is actually the first font which I think could make me abandon Consolas.

Hack 9 is about the same height as Consolas 10, but a bit narrower (which is not a disadvantage at all).

Ooo, more RSS reader options to investigate! I'm not sure if I'm more excited or dreading the possible desire to switch, haha. But Bazqux sounds promising.

- Oshyan

Bazqux is also very quick to respond to support inquiries, both technical and administrative. I can only recommend the service

95
+1 for Bazqux. And +1 for RSS not being dead.

I have a huge list of web sites I track/read almost exclusively using Bazqux.

Nevertheless, @mouser, I would prefer '-translate', if it's easy to do.
I assume you use AbBlockPro (Assuming cause...well...I don't know anybody that doesn't) - if so, click the icon, click "block element" then click the translate box (and anything else you wanna hide) - they are now gone :)
I don't. But works with uBlock Origin just as well. Thanks

97
Concerning the translate box: harmless, yes, a distraction non the less.

For Firefox, the Remove It Permanently add-on seems to work toward this end.

For Chrome, I tried Page Eraser, but didn't figure out how to get it to work across an entire site.

Just tried Stylebot with some success -- right click on element, choose 'Stylebot', choose 'Style Element', look for the 'Layout & Visibility' section, and click on the 'Hide' button.  Not ideal perhaps and may not work specific elements only, but at least it can hide the 'Translate' pop-up...

Don't know about other browsers / platforms.

Thanks for the suggestions ewemoa!

Nevertheless, @mouser, I would prefer '-translate', if it's easy to do.

98
I tried the '-nosocial' thing and it seems to work, thanks.

But may be we can call it 'antisocial' or '-social' instead? ;)

On a related note, is there a way to view the content of a thread in a way such that one can see reply to a particular post appearing immediately after the post-being-replied to?  I think this is sometimes referred to as a "threaded" view (e.g. one of gmane.org's views is like this).  May be there's other ways, but with that type of view, it might be easier to follow some of the "contained" sub-discussions...

Now I have this in my head: https://www.youtube..../watch?v=7n5xJPaFIRM

Ok, could be worse I guess ;)

99
Is there any way I can hide the social media buttons and the translate drop down box at the bottom of each page? I don't need them and they bother me.

If you go to the Forum Profile page of your profile, you will now see a new "Custom options:" item.  I will now use that for supporting miscelaneous advanced/custom options.  If you put -nosocial in that box, it will no longer add the social bookmarking items to your forum pages, or google analytitcs code, protecting you from any privacy concerns.  Translate box still shows because it is completely harmless.

Thanks a lot!
