ah, they do work, but not in the preview  :)

I think your "Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic' was not ticked" is the default -- and sensibly so, right? this option if checked will send you notifications by email automatically for every thread you ever post to.
Well, for me that makes perfect sense. If I post on a thread I want to know if someone replied or posted on that same thread. But then I do not post or reply that much ;)

ps: now, after changing these settings I assume, I got notified about the reply.
ps2: smilies not working yet?

103
'Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic' was not ticked. While I don't know if I ever enabled that myself, I know for sure that I always got updates after I replied in a thread.
'For topics and boards I've requested notification on, notify me of' was set to 'Moderation only if I started the topic'. I guess 'Replies and moderation' would make more sense as a default? (I don't think I ever changed that either)

104
I do not get any update notifications any more. Has that been reported?

105
Is there any way I can hide the social media buttons and the translate drop down box at the bottom of each page? I don't need them and they bother me.

now also on Windows 7 and 8.

The actual upgrade *might* take place a little earlier than the 1st.. perhaps this weekend, in order to guarantee that the upgrade is smoothly finished by the 1st.

I shall translate that for everybody:

"I just want to get this over and done with as quickly as possible then I can go back to having some sort of real life again"  ;D

I read it as: "Why oh why did I say Sept. 1st??!?. I want to give this to everyone NOW!"

Interestingly enough, I had Windows telling me I was running low on memory shortly after reading the above linked article. And indeed, when I checked about 90% of my 16GB were in use. Most of it were used by a web browser, Visual Studio running a compilation and a running virtual machine.

This looks very interesting. Thanks for sharing! You know how this would be played with more than 2 players?

I'm not ok with either. I'm actually really pissed about the whole situation.

By the way, it's been decided -- the official forum upgrade will take place on September 1st.

Looking forward to it!

0.18 is now available. I didn't do much testing so please report if it doesn't work as expected.

I've added command line options, added accepted escape characters to help and added Remove characters (all as requested above).

Examples:

TextManipulationUtility.exe -f "Remove characters"

Starts with the new Remove characters function selected.

TextManipulationUtility.exe -f "Remove characters" -p 5 -p 2

Additionally sets the first function parameter to 5 and the second to 2.

TextManipulationUtility.exe -f "Remove characters" -p 5 -p 2 "This is some example text to put into input field"

Additionally populates the input field with the leftover text which is not associated to a command line argument.

Last but not least a file can be specified to load into the input field with the -i command line argument.

@DyNama word boundary is currently done via regex \w+. I agree it's probably not the best decision. Will change it. I've added Trim number of characters (Remove characters). Will look into your spaces and padding requst next.

I find it weird how people just learned to accept "we will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders)". It feels like vaccination to me. Yes, with Windows 10 you can turn it off (at least that's what we think). But once this becomes the norm, it maybe won't feel so wrong when you can't turn it off any more.

I don't think we're stuck. There are plenty of options, at least for us tech-savvy folks. Often, they are a lot of work to implement though and by far not as well integrated. I understand how convenient it is if you just enter a single user name and password on your new phone or machine and you have all you addresses, calendar, emails, photos, files, etc. back. But the price we pay is enormous imho.

I'm sure most DCers have read 1984. The direction we're heading seems so obvious. Nevertheless, we just don't want to see it, don't want to accept it. After all, you can just turn it off.

Developer's Corner / HTML5 conference sessions / webinars?

Any of you web devs know good HTML5 / JavaScript / CSS videos or webinars and such? Any related conferences that make their recorded sessions publicly available online?

I am not pleased at all. I am still surprised how people just accept the direction this is taking. But then again, I've been postponing replacing Android with Cyanogen on my phone to get rid of most Google stuff for ages. At least I finally switched to using duckduckgo.com a few months ago, although I do not particularly like it.

Sorry, that information was not correct. I'm regularly launching a shortcut that points to a file on the network. This server is never offline or asleep though.

120
No. I'm only launching local stuff and I don't use drive mapping for network drives. I'll go and clear the whole history to see if it changes anything though.

121
I'll look into your suggestions DyNama. Don't know yet when though.

122
Well, the latest beta still freezes 'Searching history..' when I haven't used it for a while (a couple of minutes?)

123
Fixed for me as well. Thanks

124
I have FARR regularly hanging too since Mouser started to update FARR again. Didn't try to track it down yet though. It hangs for several seconds saying Searching history.. in the status bar. Unticking %SPECIALSYS_DOCS% does not solve the problem for me unfortunately.

125
You are both very welcome!
