At first sight, ShareMouse seems to replicate the remote control feature of MaxiVista.

The core difference is, that in MaxiVista, the remote control mode is internally tied to virtual video drivers of the extended screen feature.

This difference leads to some significant benefits of ShareMouse, justifying a separate product.

* MaxiVista is Windows-only. ShareMouse supports Windows and Mac OSX.

* ShareMouse works bi-directional. MaxiVista is master-slave based.

* In MaxiVista remote control mode, the virtual video driver is always active in the background, preventing Aero. ShareMouse does not have a video driver and has no effects on Aero.

* MaxiVista is limited to 3 monitors. ShareMouse supports an unlimited number of monitors and computers.

* MaxiVista does not allow to position the monitors with slight shifts. ShareMouse provides any possible monitor positioning.

* ShareMouse will get many remote control related special features that we won't implement into MaxiVista as the main focus in MaxiVista is extending the monitor screen to a 2nd Win/Mac PC.

Hope, this helps.

ShareMouse is currently beta and not officially available for sale.

We have not determined any license strategy so far. It may be free for personal use, it may be commercial only. Nothing has been decided yet. Sorry for that but we still need time for consideration.

I just wondered why "Mouse without Borders" has no commercial license at all. I wonder about Microsoft's strategy here.

28
Yes, we found this too, with our great surprise as you can imagine. Interestingly, this software is limited to personal use. I wonder if Microsoft wants to come up with a paid version.

ShareMouse does everything what "Mouse without Borders" offers (including Drag & Drop of files):

ShareMouse Advantages:

  • Cross-platform operation between Mac OSX & Windows computers.
  • Drag & Drop of multiple files.
  • You can drag the files to any target location, not just to the desktop.
  • ShareMouse doesn't leave an obselete auxiliary folder for each drag & drop operation like "Mouse without Borders".
  • A progress bar keeps you informed about the current file transfer status.
  • Accidental file transmissions can be cancelled at any time.
  • Support of an unlimited number of computers and monitors.
  • Uncompromized multi-monitor support.
  • Seamlesss Monitor positioning including vertical/horizontal shifts.
  • No monitor positioning, IP or port configuration required.
  • License for commercial use available.

feature that's crucial to me: adjusting the letter case of the expansion phrase to the typed abbreviation.

PhraseExpress offers exactly this feature for a long time: http://manual.phraseexpress.com#caps

:-)

Hi folks, we will look into the hidden program window issue. We gladly inform you about improvements in PhraseExpress and new versions. Please sign the spam-free newsletter to stay tuned for news about product releases: http://newsletter.phraseexpress.com.

31
We are currently preparing a new Text Expander software with a MS Office like Ribbon user interface:
screenshot.jpg

We welcome you to participate in the upcoming beta test program: http://www.instaphrase.de

Update 12/22/2011: We have changed the name to WordExpander. It is available at http://www.wordexpander.net

32
Or will it need to be XP/OSX and above?

Yes, exactly. Sorry, but no older OS/computers.

33
Glad that you like the concept. It would be great to hear your feedback.

34
We kindly would like to invite you to the beta test of our latest product, the mouse and keyboard sharing software "ShareMouse", which allows you to control any computer with the mouse & keyboard of any other computer.

Yes, it sounds like SynergyKM, Multplicity or Input Direktor but ShareMouse has some special features:

* There is no master or slave. Each client is equal. Any computer can instantly control any other computer in any direction without re-configuration.

* ShareMouse is Mac <> Windows cross-platform compatible.

* ShareMouse automatically determines the monitor layout without manual configuration.

* ShareMouse uses UDP only and simplifys use in restricted networks.

* Many more...

If you have two (or more) Mac/Windows computers on your desk, ShareMouse is for you!

It would be great if you would check it out and let us know your thoughts.

I installed Phrase Express but could not figure out how to customize it to autocorrect my spelling errors.
-HankFriedman (May 14, 2011, 10:14 AM)

With PhraseExpress, you actually don't need to manually create custom AutoCorrect entries at all. PhraseExpress automatically detects frequently individual misspellings automatically for you and store them without any manual interaction.

Adding your own AutoCorrect entry is as easy as creating a regular new phrase: Enter the correct spelling as a phrase and enter the misspelling as an Autotext. Step-by-step video tutorial: http://screencast.com/t/haRhziIi

PhraseExpress can also import Microsoft Word AutoCorrect entries for use in any program.

You can even import AutoCorrect list from web pages like http://wikitravel.or..._common_misspellings with the batch import feature.

All that free-of-charge for personal use.

Hope, this helps.

Peace, Jim, Peace.

Peace, Josh. Peace.

The great majority of PE's rants and attacks have been in forums other than the Complaints forum. Search the Deals forum - every time another text expander is mentioned as being on sale somewhere he starts his crap all over again. Take a look.

Jim

Yes, please do take a look.

What you will find is, that my last such posting is from November 01, 2009!

At the time of that posting in 2009, I learned, that DC is not the suitable place to debate intellectual property issues in the way I did. I sincerely apologize for my misconception and for any bad feeling this may have caused to you. I learned my lesson at that time and apologize.

Now, it would be fair if you would recognize, that as a consequence of that event, I never started any such posting ever again.

It would really appreciated if you would not beat this horse again which is dead for more than one and a half year. Please realize that it is decomposed to dust and won't live up anymore.

It was not me, who opened this recent attack on us (and I am clueless why it happened yet again and why it happened yet again at DC in particular). But we have been attacked and not you. And we reserve the right to take position if we want to do so. Whether you like or not. It is just not your business.

Please understand, that it is my paid job to answer on any posting that relates to us or our products.  You, however, should not feel such obligation. You can and you definitely should opt to ignore threads related to our product. You do not need to bother with it as you and we are well aware that you don't like it anyway.

I promise you that I will never open any non-related thread  anymore as I already did for the last years.

Peace.

39
Is that inflammatory?

As so many here seem to be so picky about teaching one to choose the right tone. Now, it would be awesome if those would follow their own rules (as in "mutual respect").

By the way, why not answer the question?

Don't just stop there!

No, thanks. It is just the ranting forum I was writing about. I would be fine with that. Thanks for asking anyway.

@mahesh2k: WHAT a rage. Awesome. You are completely right: Why not pee on the table if you can. You're anoymous, so you should not leave out any such chance. Well done.

Thank you. I wish you Happy Easter Holidays.

40
Your funny in how you try to dismiss valid question.

Why not answer: Do you really believe that a newcomer with serious intentions of joining a community would ever choose a first posting of that nature?

I'm not emotional or heated about anything here.

I consider your sarcastic exaggeration as being emotional.

41
someone needs to break convention and delete this thread.

Indeed, this thread, if not this whole forum section serves no constructive purpose.

It is just for no good. It's a platform that just feeds nasty basic instincts. It apparently is abused by a few confused and uneducated individuals under the shelter of anonymity.

"Serious" is not the word that would come into my mind in this regard.

42
OK, your snarky and arrogant reply tells me that you are not interested to actually discuss but just rant. The usual business here.

43
Just because it's someone's first post does not make that person a troll.
Unless you can find a history of inflammatory posts by same person, it does not apply.

Do you really believe that a newcomer with serious intentions of joining a community would ever choose a first posting of that nature?

It's your 'PE is the only right choice' for this kind of program that is annoying to some.

Why are you so emotional? You know, that I never ever said or meant that.

Your heated way of argumenting at least now make me understand that you had no real intentions to seriously discuss at this thread. What a pity that you have motivations to act in this way.

44
I think this thread should be locked at this stage.

This thread should not only be locked but deleted. I would love to see if this forum finally would stop making a business out of giving anonymous trolls a platform to spread unsubstantial rants with the sole purpose of harming business reputation.

We really have no problems if you express that you had any issues with our products. But it should be done in a respectful and appropriate manner. This extremely hostile and invalid posting really is intolerable. Take it down.

This thread has nothing to do with free speech - If DC ever wanted to be taken as a serious platform, it should reserve some control to allow keeping a minimum of mutual respect. It seems to be necessary as some unfortunate parts of this forum community itself is obviously lacking that.

System Resources - as in Memory and CPU usage.
Are you just kidding around or just don't know what I'm speaking of?
I know what I'm talking about, I suspect the majority here do as well.

No offense intended at all. Please understand that I can't see from here whether you already know all that or not.

The following is not to convince you to switch. Keep what you like. I just would like to write more about system resources in general as system resource efficiency is actually one of our main software design requirements.

Measuring "memory consumption" sometimes is based on misconceptions. If you already know all this, please allow it for other readers:

The Windows task manager, for example, is not a suitable tool to measure memory load as it only shows the memory that is temporarily allocated by Windows for any launched program. It does not mean, that the program necessarily requires that allocated memory but it can use the memory quickly, if it should become required. If, however, another program requires more memory, it will be taken from the unnecessarily allocated memory. The actual programs have only very little influence in this procedure. It is managed by Windows.

In an ideal system all memory would be allocated and your task manager would show zero free RAM. Think about it: In theory, it is no good and would be waste if you have unused RAM at all.

So, if you find in task manager, that PE seem to take 100MB RAM in your system it doesn't mean that it is required by PE. It just does mean that Windows decided, that PE could quickly use 100MB if it would need it.

However, we took utmost care to minimize system load in general. That is why PE may look reduced or even "boring" for some at first. You won't find any fancy stuff such as gauges, statistics graphs or extensive use of graphics buttons in PE. It is because such gimmikry has only limited value. We are spartans  in this regard and hate waste of memory.

I posted the file sizes as this is somehow a good start to compare system loads: Programs require at least the memory of their own size when executed.

On top of that, programs require memory for linked libraries that are loaded with them. That is why programs such as .NET applications load so slowly. They have to load linked libraries of often multiple times of their size.

Then there is dynamic data for the actual user data and internal program tables required for the program operation.

I don't believe that PE uses so much more of that dynamic data unless you use the extra options that it has to offer.

For example, it requires (a little) extra memory to store formatted text but if you don't use it, the extra memory is not required. And most of the little additional CPU load is caused by the unique text prediction feature that analyszes your text input to automatically create new phrases based on your individual writing style.

If you turn off PE's extra features, it barely exceeds 0.5..1% CPU of a normal today's computer when used for plain text replacement. It should be very similar to other well-designed text replacement utilities.

If you come to another conclusion, I would be curious to learn how you measure it.

However, I agree with you up to a certain degree. PE is a mature application and does more things at startup and during data I/O operations. We believe, that you may like the reason as it increases data security and operation safety: PE creates auto-backups, scans the phrase file for integrity, uses a shadow copy method to save you from data loss in case of a power failure, etc. You may not need these security measures but other users store many thousands phrases with PE and rely on this data for doing business. These professional users welcome the extra measures that, yes, require a very small extra system load which is, however, barely measurable.

Hope this helps.

General Software Discussion / Re: Axialis License Key Frustrations
« on: April 20, 2011, 04:43 PM »
I can only tell that Axialis is well worth the money and you could consider to support them and buy a a full license that would make your life trouble-free.

It is really not expensive and they offer a lifetime license with many clipart updates.

47
it is in your best interest to determine why this is and change it.

In this regard it would be interesting for me to learn what you guys actually consider "aggressive" in my first reply?

I am fully aware that I have not used corporate ("Your feedback is very important to us") bullshit nomenclatura but that just wouldn't fit to a troll anyway, would it?

48
So for the best, I'm marking this thread to ignore, trying to follow Chris' example in the future.

Wraith, I would love if this long-going wish would ever come true.

Now, here is the deal:

Refrain from any BartelsMedia related thread at DC for one year and I will donate PE licenses worth US $1,400.- to fellow DC forum members (with more than 1000 postings). Mouser can run a nice "Happy Easter 2012" promotion with those licenses.

The deal starts from now on. No confirmation required.

Addendum: As expected, Wraith failed within less than a day. Sorry about that.

49
What I wonder about is the focus of this debate.

Is it really completely acceptable for you guys, that any anonymous troll can walk in, make any reputation-harming claim he wants and walk away without criticism?

And do you really find it acceptable to bash the victim when he makes a statement and provide evidence against the false claim?

50
at far less resource usage.

I hate to contradict but after checking both program's file sizes, I could not find any significant difference:
size.png

Given PE's substantially bigger feature set, I was quite surprised by the similar file size.

PE gets in the way of my typing,

PE actually only does what you are configuring it to do. If any text replacement disturbs you, the solution is just a click away. Any Text Expander can ruin your typing flow if you misconfigure it.

But that's me.

Sure, if you found your solution, there is no reason to switch unless you wish some of PE's extra features. I just asked to figure out whether you have any improvement suggestions that would be useful for us.

By the way, Auspex' replacement text wizard is very handy indeed. Nice work.
