I have an Android phone. How does this affect me?: Because you have to sign in to your Google account to do anything except for browse the Web and make phone calls, Google will be able to track practically anything you do on your phone using Google services.

So even on the phones, it's limited to what you do while logged in, and apparently you can browse and call without that happening.
Troubling news, but not unexpected, and seemingly easily circumvented.

The great thing about Android is that you don't have to use the Google services, you can use any of the plethora of alternatives. In fact if you go a step further and install a ROM like CyanogenMod you can opt to not have a single Google app installed on the device to begin with.

[edit] Also people should checkout - http://www.google.com/int.../en-GB/privacy/tools.html

There you can opt out of search personalisation, targeted ads, etc.

Though I'll be doing it, why should I have to go through these hoops to opt-out of a service I don't or won't use?  Or should say my wife doesn't use a phone for.  I'm in the process of re-activating my old Android phone for her to use.  Her flip phone was acting up plus she wanted something that displayed photos better than the flip and so she could occasionally check her (non-gmail) emails on.  But, until she signs up for a gmail account, my account is the one assigned to the phone.  I've turned off the background sync so it doesn't mess with her contacts but it won't be her phone until she signs up.  Plus we had to add a data plan just so she could use it.  But that's a different story.

How is this considered an opt-in?

Wow, I wasn't expecting it to be so professional looking on such short notice.
This is great! Again I thank you.

104  Special User Sections / N.A.N.Y. 2012 / Re: NANY 2012 Release: Ethervane Echo on: January 29, 2012, 11:54:43 AM
By default, Echo only prompts if you are deleting 10 clips or more. You can reduce that number to 1, so that Echo will always prompt:

Preferences -> Prompting -> ClipDeleteTrigger

Yep, that did it. Thanks. Thmbsup Now I don't have to worry about hitting delete by accident.

There are a couple of other things I'm wondering but will check through the previous posts and help 1st.  If I'd have looked at the help I'd have known about the trigger. embarassed

By chance is there a pdf of the help?
105  Special User Sections / N.A.N.Y. 2012 / Re: NANY 2012 Release: Ethervane Echo on: January 28, 2012, 01:54:22 PM
I'm using the latest Version 1.0.6.110 and have a question about deleting a clip.  If I have a clip highlighted and delete using the keyboard or the context menu with the mouse it's gone.  There is no confirmation whether I would like to delete the clip.  I checked the preferences and Prompting > BeforeDeletingClips is set to True.  Also tried changing it to False just in case.  Same thing.  No confirmation.  Is there another setting I need to change or look at so I get a confirmation?

Also, is there any type of listing that tells what all of the individual preferences settings do?  I've figured out some of them or read in earlier posts what others do.  Chances are I won't use many of them, more of a learning experience for me.

Thanks,

This "draggability" and reconfiguring of the tabs in the CHS main GUI window seems not to have been documented (?), or covered in any of the CHS videos by mouser that I have seen:
See this summary of CHS "How to" videos ("screencasts"): (Have I missed any?)

I thought there were more than 3 but looks like I was mistaken.  That's all I found also.

Maybe it is a hidden feature test by mouser to see who found it 1st. smiley And you won!!! Thmbsup

Back on 12/15 mouser started a Clipboard Help+Spell: Tips and Tricks thread.   This would be a good addition to it.

But hey - isn't it nice how easily you can reconfigure the main CHS GUI?

IainB

It is!!!
I didn't know this was doable.  I need to watch Mouser's videos more often.  embarassed

Thanks very much for taking the time to put together the tutorial.  Thmbsup

I've been using Ethervane Radio more and more recently.  ESPECIALLY since it gives me access to a few stations I haven't been able to get on some of the bigger named programs.  I've also noticed the sound quality through my external speakers seems better too.  It at least seems I need to tweak the other programs a little with an EQ plug-in for them to sound as good.   Are you doing anything special to make ER sound better or am just (or not) hearing things??  tellme

There are times though I would like to boost the bass a little with ER.  Are there any recommendations of an add on EQ that could work with ER?  I've gone through all of my sound/speaker settings and there isn't anything installed.  This is a Dell laptop with whatever stock sound card came with it.

Thanks!

I do not have an addition to the list but will highjack the topic a moment to offer a  Thmbsup if you decide to take this further.  And I would be interested in a better/easier expander if you decided to offer it as donationware or for a modest fee.  Especially if it is along the ease of use of Ethervane Echo.

Folder Scout Professional lets you instantly access any drive, folder, or file on your computer or network just by typing a few letters! ...

Features overview on File Scout's web page: http://www.folderscout.com/ProductInDepth.htm
I'm not on a server but here is a link to how it works with a network in the last release http://www.folderscout.com/NextRelease.htm

I checked through the forums here and did not find anything that it had been discussed before.  I was wondering if anyone has any experience with it or maybe comparisons to other like programs? Listary, FARR, Everything Search or anything else.

Time allowing, on the 1st formal day back to work after the holidays, I'll download and give the trial a try. But still wondering if anyone else is using it.

Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with, or getting any type of kickback from, any of the programs I mentioned above. Only using a couple of them.

How difficult would it be to add the ability of editing a couple of the fields in the "info  box"?  Title, Subject and Keywords.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything in the Xpdf package that would allow me to edit fields.

No problem.  It would just have saved a few extra clicks.
I can launch a selected PDF to bring it up in PDF-Xchange, click properties, make my change(s) and re-save.  Only thing is the change(s) do not show up in PDFInfoGUI until I close it, re-start and re-load the folder. Or selecting all, deleting and re-entering the folder again.  I understand why this is, though probably not in the correct  technical terms.

Would there be a way to refresh the list with the same folder to pick up the changes without closing and restarting PDFInfoGUI?  Or deleting all and re-entering the folder again?  Just trying to save some steps.

I bought and started using Listary Pro a few weeks ago and love it.  I emailed them with a couple of questions and Channing was very prompt with answers.

For those that haven't been to the site in a while there is now a forum/discussions under the support section.  I believe it started a few weeks ago.  There aren't many topics yet but I'm sure there will be over time.

Listary Disussions

Thought I'd pass it along.

I downloaded the zip from above and also from your web site.  Neither will extract. Pops up an error. Tried 7-zip and the windows extract.  Tried other zipped files, one was SnapDB, they extracted fine.   huh

I couldn't figure out if I could attach anything in a PM and was going to attach an old test pdf here.
Let's see if I did it right???  At least I remembered it had to be zipped.

skwire,

I am really liking PDFInfoGUI.   Thmbsup
Something I just noticed.  I am not seeing anything in the Page size, File size or PDF Version columns. If I launch one of the PDF's and go into Properties a file size is displayed.  But I don't see anything that has to do with page size or PDF Version (except Ghostscript). I have looked under the basic and advanced properties tab.

I'm using PDFXchange as my viewer. Deleted Adobe quite a while back.

Of the 3, the one I would like to be able to see is the File size.

Thanks again for a great utility/program.

Thanks Stephen.

Is or could there be a way to set a user defined window size when EasyNotes is started?

Not able to open anything either. Using Crtl+O or via the menu. Worked ok in the 1st version.

I should have mentioned above.  That is with Rockbox installed on my Clip+.
124  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Sansa Clip Zip: Wow! on: November 26, 2011, 10:05:43 AM

I like the way the SD card feature works.  The SD is accessed separate.  It's shows like a thumbdrive does on a PC.  It comes up on mine as 'microSD1'.  Much easier to access and use than my old different brand.

I use mine both with both ear buds and external computer speakers.  I've had a set of Creative's for a few years that the Clip+ sounds great on.  Decided to also get a another set of cheaper speakers for my workshop area.  Those are a set mfg by Sylvania.  Bought them at a local Big Lots discount store.  They don't sound quite as good but will do.

Thanks for the update.  I'm glad you were able to add the hide/un-hide delay.  This is really a help for me!
