Find And Run Robot / Re: FARR won't launch programs anymore
« on: June 11, 2009, 04:10 AM »
Thanks for the quick reply.

It would seem what you say is true, but:

1. FARR's been working okay for the last several years on this system (As I recall, I was able to open all files normally as late as I believe yesterday)

2. I haven't added any new security programs recently (I use NOD32, A-squared and Comodo Firewall+HIPs). (I've also tried FARR after disabling all three of the above, but no change)

3. As  I mentioned in my original post -- I've tried running FARR at startup, before anything else loads -- but get the same results.

Ok, tried changing the launch method. Results:

With new launch method --

If the "Always launch shortcuts directly instead of resolving links" box is ticked, then I get the following error for BOTH programs AND document files:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file.  You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item"

If I untick the "Always launch..." box, then Programs open, but if I try to open documents, I get the same error as above.

So -- I'm now able to launch programs (after unticking "Always launch..." box), but I still cannot open documents (Word 2007 and PDF are what I've tried so far). Ticking/Unticking "Use document launcher helper utility" has no effect whatsoever on the above results, as far as I can tell.

I actually use FARR more often for launching documents rather than programs, so I'm basically still out of business...

Find And Run Robot / FARR won't launch programs anymore
« on: June 11, 2009, 01:15 AM »
As of today morning, I find FARR isn't launching anything. The FARR window opens, lets me enter my search, gives a results output, but when I click on one of the results, NOTHING happens!

I completely un-installed FARR (using Revo Uninstaller), downloaded a fresh copy from the DC website, and re-installed; no change.

I thought maybe Comodo HIPs is creating a problem, so I exited Comodo and tried again; no change. Ditto with A-squared.

Have also tried at starting it first thing on startup (i.e., before any of the other system tray programs load); no change.

I really need to get it working (have been reduced to  using Launchy, which isn't as good).  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I made a folder in the Plugins directory, named it "GooglePlus", and extracted the files into it. Shut down FARR, and restarted it; FARR won't start, I get this message:

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
---------------------------
Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\FindAndRunRobot\FindAndRunRobot.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."

Help?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply...but that isn't the problem, since I always download and save the file to my 'Downloads' folder, then extract it, and then run the setup.

Correction (re my previous post): QTTabBar creates a folder at the following location --

"C:\WINDOWS\assembly\GAC_MSIL\QTTabBar\1.0.0.0__78a0cde69b47ca25". This folder has the qttabbar.dll file.

However, when I try to register it, I get a similar error (as above), i.e. "....but the DLLRegisterServer entry point was not found

This file cannot be registered"

Followed your advice and did a search for new files.

It creates a folder at the following location:

C:\WINDOWS\assembly\temp\W8HQZ9IR0A

The folder W8HQZ9IR0A has the qttabbar.dll file. When I try to register it using regsvr32 from the Run box, here's the error I get:

"C:\WINDOWS\assembly\temp\W8HQZ9IR0A\qttabbar.dll was loaded, but the DLLRegisterServer entry point was not found

This file cannot be registered"

Any ideas?

Thanks for the quick response.

Sorry, should have given details about the OS...I'm running XP Pro SP2.

Here's the kicker -- I don't seem to have any 'QT TabBar' folder in my Program Files folder (even though the program states it's installed fine)!! Any idea what's going on here?

About the taskbar icon -- yeah, I'd right clicked it and checked out that menu, but like you said, doesn't do much as of now.

I installed QT Tab Bar...but for the life of me cannot get it to work.

The install process runs through fine, tells me the program has installed successfully, I should log off to enable QT Tab Bar.

I reboot, open a folder like the install help tells me to, right click on toolbar...and there's nothing there which says "QT Tab Bar" or "QT Tab Standard Buttons" to place a check on. It's just the standard menu. 'View' - 'Toolbars' doesn't show any QT-anything either.

After reading this page, I tried to enable it in Windows Explorer (not just any folder window)...no luck.

I have both .NETframework 2.0 and 3.0 installed, and I have administrator status on my laptop.

Interestingly, the 'QT Tab Desktop Tool' does show us a Taskbar Toolbar. Haven't been able to figure out quite what it does though. My specific interest is in getting the QT Tabbar to work.

Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried everything I could think of...would appreciate any help.

Another absolutely wonderful tool which is a part of SIW is 'Eureka!', which lets you see the password behind the asterisks in Windows. While there are other similar tools out there, I've always found them flaky -- sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. Eureka! on the other hand has always worked for me so far.

Another reason why SIW is my premier system info utility.
