General Software Discussion / Sign Up Sheets
« on: April 05, 2019, 10:50 AM »
We are looking for a way to create our own online signup sheets.

I am thinking about where folks could go to a web page and enter their name and email address, and be able to return later, perhaps, to remove or edit their entry.

There are all sorts of these things online, usually with subscription pricing.  But I could also run such a thing on my own webserver.

Anyone have an experience in this realm?

General Software Discussion / Re: Qucik Pop Menu for pasting text

Have you looked at PowerPro?  It's an amazing program, similar to AHK, but has it's own GUI system.  It can easily create for you popup menus that will paste snippets, and is fully customizable to do just about anything you want.

Or just use autohotkey's own hottext command

If you have autohotkey installed, put this in a text file called "myautotexts.ahk" and run it.
Then, whenever you type "teh" it will get replaced with "the".
If you type "waz" then it will be automatically replaced with "Whaaaaazzzzzuuuupppppp!!!?????"
(in fact, even as I typed those just now they were getting replaced; I had to go correct them above)

My most favourite of all is using "etest".

;autoreplacements
::teh::the
::THe::The
::MRs.::Mrs.
::MR.::Mr.
::becuase::because
::haa::hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha{!}
::waz::Whaaaaazzzzzuuuupppppp{!}{!}{!}?????
::etest::THIS IS A TEST OF THE EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM.`rREPEAT: THIS IS ONLY A TEST.`rIf this had been an actual emergency, the Attention Signal you just heard would have been followed by official information, news or instructions.

I use TreeDBNotes.  It, too, is sort of like a wiki system, but I like to think of it as a big electric notebook.  It's easier and more intuitive to use than OneNote.

You create custom tabs, and each tab has a tree full of notes that can contain text, richtext, images, hyperlinks, attachments, etc.
I even stopped using my browser to store links.  I just write notes in it and put the hyperlinks into the text just like you would on a forum.

So, I have tabs for all my network administration work, games, stories, even tidbits of information - anything and everything.  You can even have multiple TreeDB documents.  It's quite nice, but the developer hasn't done anything new in several years (despite my persistent emails which get no response).

I also use it to write stories, organizing the tree by chapters and sections.

The great thing about the trees are that you can see every note/topic all the time.  Custom styles make it easy to apply the same styles over and over.  You can create note templates, use custom icons in the tree, capture clipboard, export to epub, even create an exe file out of a tree.  It's kind of like a really souped up version of KeyNote.

The free version does everything you want, and is quite stable; you only need to buy it if you want to use it for passwords, contacts, tasks and calendars and things (which aren't so nice, anyway).

General Software Discussion / Re: youtube downloader?
« on: March 29, 2019, 02:00 PM »
I have been using the 3D Youtube Downloader - https://yd.3dyd.com/home/
I really like this application.  If you just want audio, you can download the yt mp4 and it will convert it automatically.

256
There is no regular GUI when you run it.  Push win+k to summon the menu.  Take a look at the help file.

257
I'll think about the Trim N Characters and see what I can see.

For the Add N Characters, you can use "Surround" and just don't put anything for the front side.  Hold ctrl when you accept the dialogue to work on the lines.

I am thinking of adding a submenu for markdown.  Someone else mentioned that, too, and so maybe it can be useful in webpages.  I'd probably use it, too.

Mr. Maniac,

Oh yes, you can do anything you want with the menu.
In the docs, just overwrite the mainmenu key in the [menu] section.
It looks like this:
mainmenu=default

If my docs were clear enough, you would understand to copy the expansion (it's in the Menu page in the docs) and then customize it to yoyour liking.
mainmenu=800|866|||201|307|302|301||104|901|212|725||encase|coding|editor|sort|trim|transform|convert|webedit|insert|*sar|*date|tools

....except, that those two items are hard-coded...  (I add them statically; never imagined that anyone would want to remove them)
Okay, Ill fix that in the next version.

Hi, Mr. Maniac,

Favourite Date Format..  uh, hmmmmm.   uh.  Well, you know... uh,  actually, I don't know.

There is an ini key for it favouritedateformat and I'm pretty sure you just put whatever date format you want.  Examples are:  yyyy-MMM-dd  and  MMMM, d, yyyy and hh:mm:ss  things like that.  It basically just uses the autohotkey date format settings.  I'll update the documentation with the next version.

So, you would add your date format to the [preferences] section in the textworx.ini file and then restart TextWorx.
favouritedateformat=dd-MMM-yyyy

Thanks for pointing that out!  Oh - and thanks for the donation credits.

If someone ever finds an answer to this, so should let me know so I can stop suffering.  I've been searching for this fountain of sanity for years...

I have a problem with my computer, even after a new hard drive "Reach" install of Windows 10, so a fresh Windows 10 install is being used. The problem is that my computer will, at seemingly random points in time during the night, reactivate my screen, after it has powered down.

Maybe look to see if you have your network NIC set to wake up?
https://www.howtogee...ing-your-windows-pc/

Other than that, I believe this is probably some software issue or system setting.

Ha!  Calculor found its way onto MajorGeeks today!  I receive the rss feed for their site, and I saw it appear there.  Amazing how things get around, eh?

I used to use Quicknote - and I've tried several others, but now I use QText.  It is basically the same, a tiny, tabbed notebook for jotting down notes which you summon via a global hotkey.
But here are some features of QText that I like in particular:
  • hyperlinks generated as you type
  • callto links generated as you type - this make it soooooo easy and fast to add clickable phone numbers (that I use with PhonerLite and my FreePBX system)
  • bulleted and numbered lists
  • some basic richtext formatting
  • text area has some advanced text editing functions
  • super fast

TextWorx is updated to version 1.3!

Ath - I've added your base64 encode string function.
Also, the other casing effects are added.

nogojoe,  TextWorx doesn't use the hotkey ctrl+s unless you set in manually in TextWorx's config.  Some programs cannot use a global hotkey if another program is already using it.  But other programs (TextWorx, included, I believe) will take over (hijack) that global hotkey if it is executed *after* a previous program is executed.  So, if you want TextWorx to take over ctrl+S (which I don't recommend, since many programs use it to save their work) then you'd have to set that hotkey in Textworx's config file (directions in the help file), then restart TextWorx.

However, in Windows, you can also assign a global hotkey to an application creating a shortcut to the program, and then in the shortcut's properties, by setting a "shortcut key".  I once had an issue with a program where the developer created this shortcut in startup with a shortcut key set.  It took me ages to find it.

In the end, I don't see how your issue with ctrl+s is related to TextWorx.

My program does not invoke any stopwatch application.  Textworx has a command to invoke charmap and notepad, but not stopwatch.

chashnniel mentioned PowerPro - I want to add here that I've been using this program for years.  The authour still makes regular updates, and there is a yahoo group with great support.  I do most of my computer manipulation in Autohotkey, but Powerpro provides a very easy way to create toolbars to do anything.  It scripts alot like powerpro and you can do very advanced scripting with it.

My main use of it these days is to provide me with a completely configurable toolbar that sits on the top of my primary screen.  It has custom dropdown menus to run programs, launch system panels and do just about anything else.  I use it to run autohotkey scripts, too.

Powerpro is alot like autohotkey except that it has it's own guis.  I used to use it a lot more, but now I prefer authotkey for most things.  Still, it is unbeatable for it's custom toolbars.

Hi BGM
Using 1.2 version
Attached is screenshot of computer specs.  and stopwatch that appears. Did a search for a stopwatch exe on the computer nothing came up
Doesn't seem to hang.

I'm sorry, nogojoe, but I can't figure out what you are trying to explain.  You say you did a "search for stopwatch exe" on the computer...  this thread is for TextWorx, not for Shorthand.  Shorthand is the program for searching files (using the Everything program underneath) maybe you've posted in the wrong thread.  TextWorx does not have any file-searching function.

panzer, I don't know anything about wine (except drinking it!) but if win+k gives you problems, you can change it to some other key.  Look in the help file for directions on changing the key.  Maybe win+k is a system hotkey that won't allow itself to be rewritten?  I can't think of another reason unless it is some setting for Wine.  Make sure you have the latest version of the program, too.

Hmmm...  Need a little more info.  What Windows version? What are your computer specs?  What is the active window?  Does TextWorx have write-permissions to it's application folder? Maybe your anti-virus is interfering?
If it hangs when saving toolbar items, maybe it can't save it's settings.
I can't get it to not work here.  Make sure, maybe that you are using version 1.2?

Ath,  maybe you are right.  I coded it to *change* base10 to base64 or reverse - basically, just converting number bases.
So, you want to base64 encode an entire string..  okay, I understand now.  In fact, I think I've done this before when I was trying to convert Dell serial numbers to their product codes (or something like that).

I'll fix this, but I'm going away for a week or so, and won't be able to spend time on it until I get back.  Sorry - I hope you don't mind waiting too much.

Ha, ah, I guess that didn't make much sense, did it.

The commands use ctrl and shift - if you set a hotkey to a command, you must add ctrl or shift to the hotkey to use the command's modifer.  Anyway, I explain it in my blog post.

Ath - I've added the base64 conversion.
Contro - now you can set a hotkey to RUN Text.
