Is it possible to get in on the beta testing of the next version of Linkman?

If you are registered Linkman Pro user you can appy at support(at)outertech.com, but we have a limited pool of beta tester spots and take only people that help improve Linkman.

77
Yes, it's true.  Powermarks is one of the best little programs I've ever come across.  I'm using Linkman right now, but there are two small features that are still lacking:
--being able to place the toolbar buttons on the upper toolbar of Firefox.

This will be possible in the next version (currently in Beta Test).

--Opening the bookmark in the existing tab of Firefox.  This was good because I could repeatedly use Powermarks without opening a new tab everytime I used it, and cluttering up my bar.  Powermarks had an option to open in the same tab or a new tab.  I really wish Linkman would add this also.

Linkman had this option too, with Firefox 1.5. Just test Powermarks with a new Firefox version and you will see it opens always a new tab.

78
LinkmanFox.xpi is not installed invisibly, the Firefox extension díalog is displayed where the user gets the change to cancel the installation.

79
We have decided to push out a bugfix update before going with new major features into beta, so here it is.

7.81

Major changes:

- Extended Database History Feature (Tools | Settings | Data | Backup old Linkman Data files). By default Linkman will keep 2 + 1 (two older and one current version) Database files. The history can be configured to save up to 10 older databases.

- Added <parent.userdef1> to <parent.userdef6> tags to export templates.

- Additionally this update fixes several bugs.

Shareware Version (Linkman Pro, $25, 30 day trial):

Download: http://www.outertech...files/linkmanpro.exe

Freeware version (Linkman Lite) is still at 7.80, it will be updated by the end of the year:

This IS a freshly installed Windows 7 (an hour and a half after installing Win7), and Firefox 3.5.5.

1.5 hours could mean that Firefox settings has been changed or LinkmanFox.xpi and another installed extension bite each other.

I've installed Windows 7 into VMWare and directly after installation zipped the virtual machine. This way I can unzip it at any time and repeat the installation. I've done 3 times so far and always without any errors.

BTW, I don't see the Firefox extension download anywhere on your web site....

Download -> Linkman Pro -> Firefox Extension.

Please send also $APPDATA\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles.ini via Email, if possible.

Also, a suggestion: Listing the FF extension on the Mozilla Addons site would avoid problems like this; they review all extensions and make sure that mistakes like this are few, if any.

As I understand, you can only submit stand-alone extensions. LinkmanFox does not work without Linkman.

81
This may be a bug in the Linkman installer. To install the extension (LinkmanFox.xpi) the installer reads the path value from $APPDATA\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles.ini, [Profile0] section.

It gets a value like this: Profiles/l2qwtl3g.default

/ is replaced by \ and LinkmanFox.xpi copied to $APPDATA\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\l2qwtl3g.default\extensions.

When Firefox is (re)started it loads and installs the xpi file.

As I said on a freshly installed Windows 7 + Firefox 3.5.5, the installation works without any problems.

p.s.

We have put LinkmanFox.xpi as a manual download on Outertech.com. You may try to skip the Firefox integration in the installer (uncheck the option) and then drag & drop LinkmanFox.xpi manually to the Firefox window and report if it works.

J-Mac we have received your email, among with some other users, but waited with the response until we can find a fix. The problem is that we cannot reproduce it on our Windows 7 systems and only few users have this problem. We hope to have a solution soon.

Installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64 into VMWare, installing Firefox 3.5.5, followed by Linkman 7.80.12 provides no errors whatsoever. The Linkman Firefox extension works.

83
A lot of the description text has been blatantly copied from Linkman the web page.

Please test it in 4.2.0.5.

thanks for the portable edition.. when it comes to Batchrun users, i seem to be part of a select group of one. :)

We had 10.000 dowloads in 2 days, so it seems not to be that bad. ;-)

The code already contains double quotes, checked both in the program and the installer.

my registry looks like this:

Shell | Edit | Command

C:\Projects\Batchrun\Batchrun.exe -edit "%1"

As far as I know Dingo has no developer API.

Try installing GetDiz without the included fonts. Some users had installation problems because their systems refused to accept new font installation.

Batchrun installer has no (optional) Ask Toolbar.

I needed it myself to create a script that launched the game Warhammer Online in Idle Priority and copied the login password to clipboard, so I could paste it to the login window. So this feature went in.

You can also use our freeware <b>Batchrun</b> for this purpose (among other things).

Website: http://batchrun.outertech.com
Download: http://www.outertech...m/files/batchrun.exe
Download portable edition (manual installation): http://download.oute...atchrun_portable.zip

Version 4.2 has just been released.

<b>Batchrun</b> will let you create batch files using a graphical interface. In the good old days of DOS .bat files took care of this task. They still do, but they're not exactly user friendly. With Batchrun .brs batch files you can launch any number of programs or dialup connections with just a simple click. You can control the starting process with many properties like priority or run mode and control their behavior a tad.

You can even do more than starting programs with the built-in file management functions like Copy, Rename, Makedir, Delete, End Process, Kill Process and Text to Clipboard. Batchrun batch files can be launched from Explorer or placed in StartUp folder or on the Desktop.

<b>Feature List</b>
<ul><li>Launch files of any filetype and dialup connections</li>
<li>Internal commands: Run, Copy, Rename, Makedir, Delete, DelTree, End Process, Kill Process, Text to Clipboard</li>
<li>Wildcard support for Copy, Delete and DelTree</li>
<li>Makedir nested folder creation</li>
<li>Drag and Drop between Explorer and Batchrun</li>
<li>Support for date and time tags</li>
<li>Command line parameters can be passed to Batchrun script files</li>
<li>Save batch files directly to Startup and Desktop</li>
</ul>

Thanks, Outertech!

Since this is the issue I reported a few days ago, would you be willing to describe what the problem with the bookmarks db was?

Your file had not the same structure as a file created by a fresh FF3 installation. That was all. Now Linkman parses much more carefully to be prepared for more eventualities. The same goes for the Favorites import.

94
We have a new build out, 7.8.0.12.

Major changes:

- fixed import of Firefox 3 bookmarks modified by external programs
- fixed import of Favorites modified by Foxmarks
- removed Chrome import, until Google decides to stop playing around with the data format
- Linkman now auto-corrects links to local files with wrong space convertions in file names

[2388] C:\Program Files\Linkman\Linkman.exe    detected: Heuristic.Dialer.RAS!A2

I mention it here because it can be very frustrating trying to get even the simplest false positive corrected through the anti-virus bureaucracies -- as I learned through a difficult Emsi experience which flagged a task manager on another system.
-Steven Avery (April 20, 2009, 11:48 AM)

The problem is that they don't see it as a false positive. All that Heuristic.Dialer.RAS!A2 means is that Linkman has the ability to dial a ISDN/Modem connection (Tools | Settings | Connection), nothing more. This feature is turned off by default and not harmful in any way. All that A-squared does is analyze Linkman.exe and look if it links to the Microsoft RAS (Remote Access Services) API.

Installed Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7068 x86 today. No changes were made after the installation. Installed Firefox 3.08 and Linkman 7.80. All Linkman buttons in Firefox are working fine.

97
We are using Windows 7 Build 7057 x86 and the Linkman Firefox 3.0.8 buttons work fine with default UAC settings.

98
I've just imported a test database and Linkman was able to import "Bookmarks Toolbar" as a folder, including all content. Is there a possibility you could send your FF3 bookmark file to linkman at outertech.com?

99
OK. I thought that sounded too good to be true. I would love a bookmark program to know which browser I have open and launch URLs there. Probably could be done but wouldn't be easy, I imagine.

Thanks!

Jim

It's fairly easy to do, it just has not been requested so far.

p.s.

Linkman HAS a function to launch a URL into the non default browser: Right Click Menu -> Launch in New Window with (IE, Firefox etc).

You can also set a specific browser in the URL properties.

I don't think there's a yes/no option, but I could be wrong.  I appreciate the updating when it occurs, so I never looked for a way to turn it off.

There is an option directly in the URL Validation dialog ("Update moved pages").
