<b>Linkman 8.30</b> with Firefox 7, and Firefox 8 Beta support has been released. Initial Windows 8 Alpha support is also available.

This version allows you also to optionally pass command line parameters to the various browsers. The help file has been improved and some minor glitches fixed.

Actually we have work-arounded the last problem some minutes ago and are preparing the final build. It supports Firefox 7 and Firefox 8 Beta.

We are planning a "10 things you may not know about Linkman" video.

Thanks for the drop and drag tip. I was using navigating "Edit-new-local_file" which works well, I suggested Linkman modify the structure to make that a bit easier to find.

Modify structure in which way?

Hmmm...late yesterday I was unable to update.  I was told that 6.0.2 was the most recent version.  This morning, I'm able to update, but FF claims that the Linkman Fox extension won't work.  Though I suppose I could download the add-on Carol mentioned earlier and try to deal with the issue that way, I'm puzzled that Linkman Fox (the add-on for FF) supposedly doesn't work.  And I'm somewhat bothered that FF is making add-on developers jump through hoops every few weeks.

Mozilla has stopped auto-updating to v7 because of many problems with Addons. We have a working Linkman 8.30 Pro Beta. Final version will still take time.

31
Nosh, you don't have to enter the paths manually. Just drag & drop the files from Explorer to a folder in Linkman.

32
Thanks for the fast reply.

Yes, that is exactly what I meant by toolbar. I originally had the search window chosen for that shortcut. The search window does popup but I see no results after choosing search. I can choose next a couple of times, but nothing else is displayed. Attached is a screenshot of what I receive.
 (see attachment in previous post)

Please use a different global hotkey, what you want is the "Search Linkman from browser..." function.

33
If you mean the Desktop Toolbar by "TOOLBAR", then no, you have to press CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE again to hide it.

But you can use the search window instead. The search window can be hidden automatically after launching a link.

We wanted to thank all users who promote Linkman here, and on other websites! It really makes a difference and ensures that new versions keep coming!

J-Mac, your problem with redoing the settings is really strange, as Linkman does not overwrite the configuration if you update to a new version, unless you remove the old version completely before installing an update.

In USB mode, Linkman saves all settings to Linkman.ini, which is located in the same folder as Linkman.exe. This file is never overwritten, so if you have a Linkman 7 Linkman.ini file and update to Linkman 8, all the settings will be kept.

If you are moving from a non USB installation to a USB-Mode installation there is also a trick to move also your settings.

1. Load the non USB-Mode Linkman
2. Go to Settings, Program Start section and uncheck the "Use Registry" Checkbox
3. Quit Linkman
4. You settings are now stored in c:\Users\Username\Documents\Linkman\Linkman.ini
5. Copy the Linkman.ini file away
6. Install Linkman in USB-mode
7. Copy the old Linkman.ini to the folder where USB-Mode Linkman.exe is located

At Outertech we've investigated Firefox performance problems several times and in 90% of the cases they were related to SQLite. The number of transactions Firefox is sending to the SQLite handler is simply unbelievable. Even more so if the browser is idle. It starts all kinds of database "optimizations" which cause constant disk activity. This was the reason why we have decided to invest time to create Chrome and Opera Addons for Linkman (which have been released today).

I have a question regarding the folders in Linkman. Is it possible to automatically move bookmarks to folders, based on criteria such as URLs and keywords? My link collection is a mess and eventually I'd like to clean it up. Some sort of auto-cleaning would be very nice.

thanks

Yes, you can do this. Tools | Link Collector.

43
It may be a problem in the installer, we'll look into it for the next build.

We have Build 50 with further improvements to Firefox launching. Linkman is now able to launch into existing tab/new tab/new window, without touching prefs.js at all (browser.link.open_external etc).

All Addons can do that, the problem is that external application (as Linkman.exe ) can't, since this API was removed from Firefox last year. I mean unless they use DDE and live with the 255 chars URL limit and some bugs.

50
The only solution I can think of is that Linkman could patch Firefox to always get the desired functionality without messing up browser.link.open_newwindow. We have to do some internal testing first.
