FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: New C# FARR Plugin: FARRGoogleSuggest
« on: October 27, 2009, 12:26 PM »
Not sure if this is the place to post this, but I use FARRGoogleSuggest all the time and sometimes wish I could hotkey into "feeling lucky".  i.e., I'm typing into FARR, looking at the google suggest results, and just want to go straight to one of the first google results (not go to google to see the results, and then go to the first list).  Maybe something like Alt-F1, Alt-F2, etc.?

Does anyone know a way to achieve something like this?

Thanks for any suggestions.

And thanks for the awesome plug-in!

I'm looking for a way to open Chrome from FARR if it's not already open (or bring it to the foreground if it is already open), and have it point to my gmail inbox (or gmail compose).  My default browser is not Chrome (it's FireFox).

Any help/suggestions greatly welcome.

Mike

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Timer
« on: February 04, 2009, 08:22 PM »
I believe I found the issue.  My "settings" window opens so you see everything but the "Send" button at the bottom.  So I figured closing it had the same effect.  I just scrolled down to find the button, clicked send, and now my timers are working and I have pleasure.

Great plug-in, thanks!

How do you start the timer?  I type in "tm in 10 test." (without the quotes) and nothing happens.  The area below the input box says "Counting down. (example: 4:50.....), the In: says 10 seconds, the Text: says test. (with the period).  And then it says "Preset alarm (Type in the text "undefined"): true.

The status bar shows the date/time and "Next event in: No timer set"

Thanks for any help.

Just because you are paranoid Mouser, doesn't mean they are not after you.

All of the last (4? 5?) updates have forced FARR to exit, and no problem until this one.

Although my most recent BackupIni file was 0 bytes, the one before had everything and all is restored perfectly at this time.  Perfection.  That is what I get from FARR, a *very* high percentage of the time.

As always, thank you!  And have a great day!

56
My bad, incorrectly recalled there being a global activation key, with the rest of the hotkey tab as separate.

Meanwhile: I did find the ini file and there is a backup in there, but it is an empty file.  It kind of seems like the installer may have done this.  I've been using farr all morning, and for months before, without touching the ini file or that directory.  I did the new install, and now the previous settings seem gone.

Thanks for the help and update Mouser, I'm sure I'll get back on track.

57
Where can I modify the key(s) to launch FARR?  I have been using alt-J, but apparently that is/was not the default.  I'm not seeing it in the options panel, but I'm sure it's there somewhere.

58
Not sure what happened, but at the end of the install I got "file <wasn't paying attention> is not a valid FARR ini file" something along those lines.  Not sure where it was pointing, but I'll find a copy of the file on another machine, restore it here, and let you know how it goes.  I have not edited the ini file for many months.

59
I'm all good.  You do so much as it is, and nobody else with the same issue, and now they can find a solution..... I say let it go.  Finish your dissertation. ;)

60
Oh yeah, that feels good.  Enter.  Expression.  All day long.  This is going to be a good second half of the week.

Do you have a number where my wife might phone?  She does not think I are a genius.  Especially if I can not OR two regular expressions together.

Thanks for the help jgpaiva.

61
They seemed the same, but I thought I might be missing something else.

Is there a regular expression that would basically say "either = or fc"?

62
Well, a month has gone by and I have never sorted this out.  I don't know if I have changed the "default name" or not (image below).  I did change the Regular Expression so it would open on "=".  But it does not come up one the list if I type "fc" or "fcalc", so when I hit enter from inside fcalc (by habit) and hope to stay in fcalc, I get dropped out to the FARR command line with "fc" typed in and unrelated results in the result list.  Is it somewhere else I would have changed the default name (and could change it back)?  Should I not be using "=", or is there not a way to use "=" and have the "fc" trigger fcalc to restart?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks lanux128, sorry I missed the thread-

64
I am currently running 2.22.01 and somewhere in the last one or two updates this feature stopped working.  I hit enter, and if the first result is an alias it no longer launches, it just auto-completes whatever I have typed (like I hit tab instead of Enter).  I do have this feature checked in the options.

Thanks for any help-

65
I have just upgraded to the latest farr and now my aliases do not launch when they are the top item in the result list.  Instead, when I hit enter to launch them, if I haven't typed the complete name, all that happens is the rest of the Group Alias Name gets pasted up where I am typing and the result list is filtered to reflect that.  Then, when I hit enter the second time it actually launches.  Most everything else, including aliases where I have typed the entire Group Alias Name, are working as they used to (launch on enter, whatever item is at the top of the results list).

Related (?): When I'm using fcalc (also newly updated) and hit [enter], it used to just add the current expression/result to the result list below.  Now, it closes out fcalc, replaces what I've typed with "fc", and shows a farr result list containing everything with "fc" in it.

Thanks for any help-

I ran the installer, but still no FCalc showing up.  My version says 2.00.145.

When I "Click To Examine And Configure Plugins", the "Plugin Manager" dialog opens but no plugins are listed (at the top?).  This is (was) the page where I "custom override"-ed "fc" so it would work with "=".  When I click "Find and Reload All Plugins", I get a message that all plugins  were unloaded.  When I click "Check For Plugin Updates", the DcUpdater dialog opens an lists five "Installed Packages", including FCalc 1.09.01, all are checked and all say "Up To Date".  I've tried installing them with the right-click "Install from the web even though the latest version is identical to the version that is already running".

Thanks for any help.  And apologies for the long explanation and inability to resolve this on my own.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: New FARR Plugin: FCalc
« on: June 12, 2008, 06:47 PM »
Sorry for my inexperience.  I spent *days* tuning up FARR a few months ago when I first got it and I haven't touched it since, except for using it 10,000x/day every day.  And enjoying it every single time.

I got a dialog about an fcalc update, accepted it, and now my (alias? hotkey?  I'm not sure) does not work to launch fcalc, and neither does 'fcalc' when I type it into the FARR window.  I had it rigged up to use '=' somehow, but I'm not sure how I did it.  I could type "=3+4", and the dialog would show "= 3+4" (added space) along with the result(s) and the rest of the fcalc window.

Under the plug-in manager, it shows fcalc is up to date.  I also did the "Install from the web even though that version is identical to the one installed", and still nothing gets found when I type 'fcalc' or use =.

Again, sorry for the noviceness.  I gave it a good try, about 45 minutes now, but no luck.

Thanks for any help.

Just to clarify: Having now installed and used AHK, all I intended by my vote "in favor" was looking for something to put at the end of the "Text for search edit box" that tells FARR to go ahead an deploy/run it, to not wait for more typing or an Enter key (maybe /n?).

70
I'd vote for including it Mouser.  Seems like 99% of it's already there..... Not sure I need anything else from a hotkey utility.  I don't have or know one, although I see a lot of AutoHotKey refs.  I've recently invested a colossal amount of time surfing, learning, and evaluating a launcher, an explorer replacement, and a notepad replacement.  I ended up with FARR, Free Commander, and Notepad2.  But I've gotten a little burnt on surfing tools and help text.  Just my .02.

71
I have a couple of FARR hotkeys that I wish would go ahead and execute, rather than wait for me to press Enter.

Is there anything I'm overlooking?  Tips?

Thanks-

72
How about pasting text off the clipboard, and you get all that formatting (html, rtf, ms-word, whatever).  I've tried a couple of apps for this (Plain Paste, and I forget the others), but nothing I didn't have issues with.

They have a pretty clean one built into KeyBreeze, something like "remove clipboard formatting".

Find And Run Robot / Re: how to un-minimize FireFox for URL's?
« on: March 01, 2008, 05:13 PM »
Unbelievable!!!!!  What a painful, *painful* little checkbox I checked oh, way back when I was younger.  Much younger.

In Firefox, I use the "Tabbrowser Preferences" add-on, and I'd even recommend it.  Under the "Tab Focus" settings there is a checkbox: Load windows diverted into tabs in the background.

From this current FARR thread this is, perhaps, obviously the trouble.  But I *thought* it just opened new tabs in the background.  Not that it kept diverted opens minimized.

Unchecking that box, could save you a lot of time.

Have a wonderful day, everyone!

74
Perfect!  Thanks jgpaiva, without the double quotes, here's what worked for me:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /k c: && cd MyFiles

75
Not having any luck.  Have tried many variations, even trimming them to just:
cmd /k D:  // thinking it would open cmd pointing to D:
and
cmd && dir // thinking it would open and run/display a dir

But nothing works, no cmd prompt even opens.  It does work with just "cmd" as the result, but points to the FARR directory.
