I'm surprised as well!
Can you document a refund or return? The shipping to return the cable is probably more than the cost of the cable but with that image I'd have a chat with their customer service and suggest that they replace the cable, post haste, without returning the bad one. There is a whole helluva lot of people at DC, CNET, and elseware, that should be appraised of the actions of Monoprice to make a bad deal right. The negative publicity alone should be all the incentive they need.
We have an investigative reporter at a local TV station and he has a team of volunteers contacting sellers, venders, stores, etc., when a refund or replacement is refused. Even big box stores seen to respond rapidly when bad publicity enters the picture.  :)

If you pursue it, please keep us in the loop. I'd sure like to know what kind of company Monoprice really is...... >:(

Just checking,
I have Kindle, Nook and Kobo e-readers for the PC. They all seem to operate in pretty much the MO

Do you have an aversion to Kindle itself or PC readers in General?

I must have 1000 books listed in these accounts, all freebies, classics, how-tos, historical............ one of these days I'm going to read one  :D

I don't understand your reluctance...... I have an icon for Kindle which opens my Kindle account where I can read the free book I just bought at Amazon. No kindle.exe, etc.............. so it's not hogging space
There's other choices there for online ebook readers so maybe you can get the same product through other channels

One thing I haven't been able to find, and I miss it so, is a reader that will sit down and read me a bedtime story  :(

and no Ginger Ale, thanks. :(
I opened a bottle of it as a kid............. it started to foam............ I stuck it in my mouth............. it came out my nose............end of story  :-[
I haven't tasted Ginger Ale since 1946 and it's not on my To-Do list  :D

Apple, Nook, Kobo, Google Free Book & Deals Emails
Sign Up for Free Books & Deals (Various Stores): Apple iBooks Deals & Free, Nook Free Books & Deals, Google Free Books, Kobo Free Books, Kindle Fire Apps & Deals, Kindle UK Free Books.
Please Note: Significant overlap between different stores (lots of free books & deals are the same). Good to use multiple lists if you have an iPhone or iPad or Android.

Don't get all excited and spill your beer..... :P

http://forms.aweber....orm/69/554748169.htm

This is a daily list to scroll through and your search may be in vain

http://forms.aweber....orm/69/554748169.htm

I get the Kindle How-To list. Romance novels, etc., hold no interest for me. The How-To list is where I spotted the beer recipes before so that may be the one you want?? I'm not sure because I don't know what's on the other lists
I have a Kindle account at Amazon. Check the format that you use............ it appears they are all available   :D

CAVEAT: All these free book lists are a give away of the day type of program and if you read the list a day late it may have a price posted when it comes up in Amazon. Don't blindly click buy! If you miss the free one, don't worry..... books are like buses.
Miss one and there will be another along in a few days  ;D

In the meantime, I'll scroll through back mail to see if I can find a recipe that will get you through the day  ;)

Hey you guys.

I get a newsletter, Free Kindle Books, and occasionally they list titles about making things of an alcoholic temperament.
Do you use written material in your endeavors or are you true pioneers, bare-knuckle, man to man, toe to toe beer makers that don't need no freaking books?
It's an email newsletter and a list containing a recipe for brew might be rare

I've got the freebie, Kindle for PC, and Amazon sends anything I order right to my Amazon account. ...all free  :o

I'll be glad to post it, refer it, whatever, if anyone is interested.

I concede!  :(

Hell, 37 seconds is a lifetime compared to what you are living with.  :P

One second??? I doubt that you will have any challengers but I'd be prepared to defend my title!  ;D

In the meantime, I'm going to tether this old Dell and limit its activites to MS Solitare while watching "Elementary". Sherlock intrigues me but I can only understand about half of what he says....

Congratulations on your victory and I'm sorry about your laptop. Win one; lose one, and so the world turns. Good luck  :D

Soccer isn't popular enough in this country to put it on TV... who would watch it?  :D

Andy Griffith talked about a punkin?? in the video, if that's any help?

Living Room / HDMI vs Football
« on: August 15, 2014, 09:40 AM »
I had planned to spend the weekend researching HDMI cables, trying to clear up questions remaining in my mind, but Google comes up with over 7 million hits. A little much for one session so I checked the TV schedule to see how I might break up the study session.

Apparently we're coming up on the "football season" and since I don't know anything about football I turned to Google again for some answers. I found this explanation which seems to sum up the game and it only takes 5 or 6 minutes to understand it.
I don't mean to interrupt your research time but if you need a break this video may answer any questions you have about football.

I'm guessing it's computed on number of words times pay per word equals value.

The value to the reader is inversely proportionate to the value to the writer  :D

(layman's terms... we don't pretend to practice, or understand? law!)

Bobby Ekwere asked "Is there any free software that allows me to see and disable unwanted programs running in the background?"

I studied this article carefully

When I finished, I looked down in the lower right corner of the screen and knew immediately.... it's Friday!  :D

YMMV  ;D

On the Web
Monoprice: Most of the cables I use -- and most of the cables CNET uses -- come from Monoprice. They're exceptionally cheap, they ship quickly, and I've never had one fail despite a significant amount of plugging and unplugging.

http://www.cnet.com/...-cable-buying-guide/

For an evening of entertainment Google hdmi cables........... :D

and the venders haven't done much to solve this absurdity!
Check the prices and price ranges........... it's worth a chuckle ;D

Living Room / Re: Laptop Battery Record!

If you have run it at room temperature, and are going to try freezing...you should also try putting it in the oven...for comparable test data

That's a good idea.... an opportunity to add another column or two to the chart would undoubtedly mean more grant money,
I'm sure the size of the picture is one criteria considered, (maybe the only one?) in determining the amount of the grant money.
The question is: what are we simulating by baking a battery at 500 degrees?
I can't imagine a field condition arising that would even come close to a temperature that high. I can imagine sitting at the bus stop waiting for your ride (I've seen that!)
Did a tour in Africa where it got to 130F one day. So the gov't should buy that temp as being reasonable.  :)
BUT! 500F or even 300F is hard to rationalize.  :-\
Maybe you have an idea???
Animated gifs might help too? An Excel chart with an animated gif in any vacant slot would impress me!
(Does anybody have any idea how long you have to wait for a yea or nay on grant applications?  :D
I'm excited! :P

Here's an old topic.
Six or seven years ago I thought we had beaten this subject to death.   :-[

I haven't even received the Monoprice newsletter in months.......... now we got a blog.  :D

and to answer your question..............
With the going rate on that old Dell laptop about $20, in serviceable condition, the thought of applying for a gov't grant to run the required tests to compile a freeze time vs runtime comparison and publish a chart for general public use, is what I had in mind.

I should have mentioned that $20 price includes the AC adapter. The last time I checked you get the adapter alone for $17.50  ;)

http://batteryuniver...hium_based_batteries

Having grown up in a place where it never got below 59 deg.Fah. in the days of 6VDC batteries and having never known  freezing temps to improve a battery's performance I'd say calling that procedure a myth is putting it mildly.. :D

and to answer your question..............
With the going rate on that old Dell laptop about $20, in serviceable condition, the thought of applying for a gov't grant to run the required tests to compile a freeze time vs runtime comparison and publish a chart for general public use, is what I had in mind. Perhaps printed on cardstock suitable for posting above your computer or laminated in a wallet size card for mobile users?

I haven't crunched any numbers yet but I'm sure it could be kept in the millions, rather than billions, to finance, and Obama could attach it to the Immigration Reform bill where it would hardly be noticed?? just a thought  :D

Living Room / Re: Laptop Battery Record!
« on: August 12, 2014, 12:47 PM »
I'm working on cutting that time down a little too!
I've never run across any results of tests conducted comparing freeze time to run time?
I'm making space in the freezer as we speak but have no idea where to start with freeze time..

37 minutes in the freezer may reduce my run time from 37 seconds to 0 without any possibility of recovery? Game over..... nothing learned  :(

Seems like a good place for some calculations but I can't even keep my checkbook balanced so that's out

Trial and error seems to be my only option. (this may be a one shot test... hardly acceptable as a valid test in the scientific community )

Any suggestions before I stuff this Dell into the freezer and start the timer???
 :D

Living Room / Re: Laptop Battery Record!

Sorry, I can't accept your challenge!
To be acceptable a challenge must run less than 37 seconds...... :D
In your case, since it doesn't come on at all, the battery may be missing completely, or there may be a slab of pine in there..
To prove that a battery is installed and fully charged the machine must come on and run  ;D (if less than 37 seconds further proof may be required)

Better luck next time!  8)

We're wandering off into the woods here but 321downloads has been around a long time and along with Abilon I see Move On Boot, another old app, and one I still use. I have it installed on Win8.  :)
Haven't tried it on Win8 yet but I'm betting it still works.. :D
I hope Contro doesn't see these posts. If he sees all that freeware in one place he won't surface again until Xmas...
