Developer's Corner / Re: Programming Paradigms
« on: February 02, 2009, 02:44 PM »
I've been watching these and taking notes!!! I was deprived in highschool when it came to learning programming simply because there was one class that was offered for programming and it was a joke. In that class, I finished the year's work in like half a semester so my teacher had to bring in books for me to do extra assignments... I'm in college now and I LOVE PROGRAMMING... im addicted seriously... I cant stop thinking about it... maybe its a bad thing, but its amazing! Anyways, im probably going to watch as many of these as I can!! thank you for the Sanford link :)

Any suggestions of what I should do to learn more while watching it?

So I ran across some great content on youtube concerning a course offered at Stanford. The Title of the course is "Programming Paradigms" and the lecturer is Jerry Cain. I'm going to start watching this every day and wanted to share with you all... Enjoy!

Also, here are some other cute clips too:

First off, WOW...

These are amazingly powerful thoughts that you guys have put into words... I read those and was happy to be who I am; proud of what i've done and proud of the way I look at life.

@all of you - may I quote you in my speech for my college course?

Thank you for spending the time to have expressed your views of life and opinions... It really helps to see what kind of mindset I need to have so that I can become what is commonly known as an "expert programmer" in my later days... Alot of the times, when I think of some of the people at DC.com, I can only hope to be as organized, as devoted, and as productive as you guys are... I mean I love seeing what you guys do: what websites you use, what things you do to stay organized, what sorts of programming you consider and many other things... These things do NOT shape me, but rather point me in the right direction of where I need to be to truly excel at what I love doing: creating software. I can honestly say that because of DonationCoder, I've become a better programmer...

I have just recently read a quote that caught my attention and really made me think about things...

Here is the quote: "If I had more time, I'd have written you a shorter letter." - T.S. Elliot

Anyways, thanks for the thoughts!!

Questions:

1. What do you think is interesting about Computer Programming?
2. What do you like about Computer Programming?
3. As a computer programmer, what are you most proud about?
4. If you could change one thing about computer programmers what would it be?
5. What do you think is the lifetime goal of Computer Programmers?
6. In your opinion, what is the most important thing that Computer Programmers have given the world?

That should be enough to start...

I have decided to do my first speech of this semester on the Culture of Computer Scientists... I wanted to get some feedback from you all (to include in my speech) by this Wednesday night. Post some personal opinions concerning what you think about the Culture of Computer Scientists! Just open thoughts for the time being and if I dont get enough feedback, ill propose some questions... I could really use a few good opinions so dont be afraid to share yours!

Thanks for the help,
CodeByter

This actually isnt AHK but rather programmed in C++ using Borland RAD Studio. Sorry :(

Here is what I got out of it:

Screenshot.jpg

Features:
  • Simple Drag and Drop interface to make life easier!
  • Click Sort and watch as your files are sorted into folder's according to their filenames!
  • After File's are sorted into folders, FileSorter cleans up after itself (deletes the now empty folders)!

Download Here: http://www.codebyter...orter/FileSorter.exe

I hope this helps... I pictured your filenames to look like something to below:
-Folder
-------123.txt
-------123.zip
-------123.jpg
-------234.txt
-------234.zip
-------234.jpg

The result will be:
-Folder
------123
--------------123.txt
--------------123.zip
--------------123.jpg
------234
--------------234.txt
--------------234.zip
--------------234.jpg

Please let me know if there is anything else you would like added :)

EDIT FOR IMAGE CLARIFICATION: The progress bar at the bottom is accurate but Vista's progressbar is kind of weird so I tried to capture the progress bar in motion for you.

I'm playing around with something for you atm... stay in touch and check this post frequently :)

Delete the executable and the folder it was placed into.

Let me know how you feel about the WishList management (ability to save/load/delete)... I feel it was a solid implementation but not sure if it feels right...

Living Room / HAPPY NEW YEARS DC!!!

Just wanted to start the thread! Happy New Years :) May you all have a wonderful '09 and best of wishes!!! Feel free to post pics of your new year or share how your experience was :)

It's be really fun to do a screensaver challenge on DC.. if we rounded up some bare bones skeleton screensavers in different languages, and then set all the coders here loose to make a custom screensaver in their language.. sure would be fun.

MOUSER has made a screensaver, ask him about it!!!
