General Software Discussion / Re: Macro needed
« on: January 30, 2009, 03:50 PM »
I am reviewing some programs (OnScript, vbsedit, etc.) designed to help create scripts and they look like they may be very useful.
Tide,
OnScript offers training videos at a reasonable price, so I might try this one. Not sure yet, but if I take the plunge, I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks.

I don't have access to office 2007...

He just tried to save it as an Office 2003 file, but it converted his fields into plain text.
Since the macro needs to extract data from fields specific to Office 2007, you would need it to write this macro.

Thank you for offering to help, though!  :)

Target, thanks so much for your replies.

He has emailed me a template that I'll go over with him tonight...
I just want to make sure I'm understanding what I'm posting, and that I can relay his requests correctly.

Then, I will certainly post it ASAP.

Thanks, again!  :)

Regarding the file format, here's what I got from Microsoft:

Office Word 2007 XML macro-enabled template-.dotm

Stores macro code for use with other Word documents. Does not always contain macro code, but is configured to support macro code storage. Word documents created from a macro-enabled template do not inherit the VBAProject part of the template. By default, documents are saved as .docx files even when they are created from a Office Word 2007 XML macro-enabled template.

Hi,

My BF needs a macro.
I have the complete description, but it is long and very detailed, so I'll start with the basics:

Based on data from fields in a template/form (date, reference number, etc.) where the macro runs:
Can a macro actually go into Explorer, check to see if a folder exists (for example, John_Doe),
then create one and name it if it does not,
then name the document automatically when he "Save(s) As"?
And, save the new document it in the new folder (or a different one, depending on the field entries) upon closing the document?

As usual, any help is appreciated...however, he does not want a full-blown program, just this specific macro.

Thanks,
Sarah

Thank you so much for sharing this, mouser...
I have saved you paper and link for a friend of mine who is just going back to work after a long break from the world of mathematics.
I'm certain this will spark his interest.

Just to show how perverted "we" are: My personal favourite is Jessica Rabbit...
1230x1024, 643 KB:
 (see attachment in previous post)

- but, of course, she can't help it, she was drawn that way!

 :tellme:

Perverse? Hardly...who doesn't just love Jessica Rabbit?
She's stunning fantasy art, nothing wrong with that.

In commercial photography, even the lifts, nips and tucks, for better or for worse, are to be expected. They're just pictures, anyway, and most men (my age and older) don't expect us to look like that in real life.

What really helped prompt my response to this topic was when I saw (in the initial post) things like muscle tone, details in legs and knees being airbrushed out, skin tones being brightened and smoothed out way, way past natural. That was a little strange IMHO.

.xpi is the extension for Mozilla addons. Place the file in the folder C > Program Files > Mozilla Firefox, and then open Firefox > Files > Open file... , and navigate to & open the same file, and it will install as an addon in Firefox.

You don't need to move the XPI file to Mozilla first - simply use File > Open File and the installation will move it to your profile folder automatically.

Hi Carol,
no, this file would not open until I opened it in FF. The dialog box looked different: instead options to Run or Save, my options were Find or Save. Find as in, find a program online to open it. This was in IE, and I don't user any d/l managers or anything, if this helps.

Hey Curt,
thanks for the help with the .xpi file, f0dder was kind enough to walk me through that last night.

I wanted my Paint too, but I just submitted to my computer's whims...there seems to be no answer.

In the meantime, I downloaded Irfan View with no plug-ins, and although of course it's not as simple as Paint, the commands are easy and really fast to find. It's also opening faster than Paint.

It's very fast & easy to learn, so far, and  I can't recommend it enough.
I wish I could say the same for AdBlocker.

BTW my pc will not open oovoo either, count that as program #3.
However, I've had this issue with Paint & Outlook pretty much since I got Vista earlier this year.
I just got fed up last night.

Best of luck!

Irfanview (version 4 and up) has a very basic paint feature, just like paint. Open Irfanview, open an image or create a new image with it and use the F12 key to get a floating menu with all kind of options to draw.

As a viewer it was already way more superior than Paint (because of all the plug-ins), but now you also have drawing features and it is free (for non-commercial use).

Thank you Shades! I love Infran View, it's much, much better than when I tried it years ago.
People were raving about it then, I hated it, & I haven't trusted anyone's opinion on it since.
It IS simple!

It has THE feature I needed in the same place on the menu paint had it, and it even opened a scanned photo of me & my little sister (23-year old photo) that would not open before! It was a .TIF file. I thought my scan was bad, had NO idea paint would not open such a file.

I have Aha-soft software that might have worked, but frankly I don't know what to do with that program once it opens.

Thanks again Shades, you made my week.

XOXO

.xpi?
Windows cannot open that file.
FF search cannot locate such a plug-in or add-on.
"Sorry, no search results found".

http://www.getpaint.net/download.html isn't too ad-covered? (Or perhaps adblock plus is just efficient? :P). Decent enough program, imho.

That page was better. Thanks.
F0dder, I've seen your post recommending AdBlock Plus.
It's not listed in available installed plug-ins. I'll go hunt it down.
As for paint, it won't even start from the start menu. NICE.

You could do a startup repair using your Vista install cd/dvd, but why not download and install Paint.NET instead? It's the same type of program, only with way more features. (It's free.)
Uh, Zaine, have you seen the website you directed me to?
I was trying to be flexible, checking to see if paint.net was even a possibility.
It has a link to paint.net, yes, but even that link is so smothered in ads I could barely navigate.
Nothing like what it used to be. Pity, perhaps if someone donated enough money, this could be fixed.

...and if I do a startup/repair, forget it. I'll just reformat my drive.
Neither Blockbuster nor the Brain, or Personal Brain (*whatever*) will uninstall.

Thank you Zaine, I thought about that just prior to posting.
I used to have paint.net, but it lacked the simplicity of Paint.
I just want Paint. Nothing more, at least for now.
I cannot believe that something so simple won't work.

Sorry!

I just know that feeling and, it's the worst.

Edit: I also know how hard it is to make anything when you're panicked, it never seems to come out right...

Edited again: I stand by my reasonable donation. Everything, even the stapler & busininess cards needed for the Flipbook costs something, as do most of the supplies needed to make, or even gift wrap, anything.

Home made or store bought, it's truly the thought that counts, and I think wreckedcarzz's original post shows a great deal of thoughtfulness.

Happy Holidays to All!

EDIT: A friend of mine on Xfire brought up food - that's out, I've been sick for almost two weeks now.

I think we should all donate so you & your sister can go buy something.
I have been in your shoes and it's no fun.
I will start.

This is not much. Many others may want to chip in.
Buy -do not make- something tomorrow.

I guess it's mspaint.exe although I could swear it was once paint.exe.
Anyway, I've searched online and here and cannot find the solution.

It acts like it's opening (mouse over jpg, right click, select Edit, and, ..... nothing)

 :wallbash:

I kill the process mspaint.exe and always there are several instances (Outlook does this too).
I kill all instances of this nonsense and it still won't open, even if I choose open instead of edit.

I cannot even save a simple picture from my camera.
(BTW This post explains why I cannot participate in any computing discussion above 2nd grade level - I'm still working on these kinds of issues...)

Thanks.

I'm a cheap date. I love the Arc Mouse.

I think I've got you beat on this one.
I want to replace a peripheral, my $500 POS HTC Touch Dual, with a non-peripheral
that being a $20 camera phone (already have replaced the camera this week)

...and completely bypass ever compensating the artists themselves who work their whole lives trying to make a living writing and performing...

hmm...not sure about this. My ex is a musician, he wants pre-recorded music to be free. He makes the majority of his income on the road, and apparently royalties aren't worth much. Perhaps it depends on the type of music, etc. but when he explained it to me, it was clear that if anyone was guilty of neglecting the artist, it was the record companies, not the fans.

Next time I talk to him, I'll get & post the breakdown. It's interesting. I think the revenue for him comes out to $.03 per song.

I get most of my stuff from this section of Yves Rocher.

I also like some of the stuff from Bath & Bodyworks.

Blackberry body lotion...yummy! And, it's French!
Thanks, app103!

About the original post, that Burger King thing is HILARIOUS.
