Thanks for the suggestions psych and Ruffnekk.

We're also an Altiris partner, but the cost of implementing their helpdesk was prohibitive, and since we only need an extremely basic system, it would've been overkill for us.

Thanks for the link, Ruffnekk. A few of those do look promising. I'll post info on any of them I try.
2  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: OK - lets get to know each other... who are you, what do you do, where from? on: December 30, 2006, 07:33:35 PM
Hello All,
I can't remember how I came across this site...could've been surfing, might've been googling, maybe even Stumbled upon it. However I got here, I'm glad it happended. This is an incredible place. I'm a software junkie and have found Nirvana.

My name's Kevin Anderson, I'm 42, married, and I live in Memphis, Tennessee, home of Elvis, Pork BBQ, Blues and not much else worth mentioning.

I know virtually nothing about writing code except for a course in BASIC I took in college back in '84 to fulfill my language requirement, and a half-a**ed attempt at learning VB.Net about 6 months ago. (I did manage a successful "Hello World" web app, thank you)

Actually I spend much of my time in mortal combat with application developers. See...I'm a Systems/Network Admin. and am often blamed for unexpected errors when applications make their way to my test environment. And I must admit, it is foolish of me to design the test systems based on the specs of our end users and not the hardware used by the developers. Such is life.

However, you all seem like a convivial lot, and not at all insane, so I thought I'd introduce myself.

I enjoyed the game for a while, but only made it up to 70. Afterwards just too frustrating so I began loosing interest.

5  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Need advice from any Treo users on: December 30, 2006, 06:11:38 PM
I'm using a Treo 700wx and I love it. I've got a very fast connection via Sprint PCS which I take advantage of.

The problem is that I often get a weak signal in the office and at home, the two places I use it most. Does anyone know of a legitimate and reliable way of boosting the signal strength? Are there replacement antennas that can provide an increase in the signal?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Here are the apps I use most often on my USB drive. I'm including the size they take up on my stick, you can probably get them smaller by only copying the needed files, but there's plenty of room on my stick so I tend to download the full versions.

KeePass Password Safe - Free, Open-Source, secure and encrypted data safe I use often. Also versions available for Windows Mobile so I can have a copy of the database on my Treo.

CCleaner Portable - Excellent tool for cleaning up computers.

ClamWin Portable - Free antivirus scanner. A lifesaver when faced with serious virus/malware problems.

DTaskManager - Freeware - Advanced Portable substitute for Windows taskmanager. Very Nice.

Folder Size v1.4 (RoteBetaSoftware)- Ever wonder what's taking up all the room on your drives? This piece of freeware gives you a visual representation of the folders sizes on your drive and allows you to drill down to individual files. Another great piece of freeware.

System Info for Windows (SIW) - Freeware tool that will give you almost any conceivable piece of information about your computer. Another tool I use often at work.

FastStone Capture - Freeware screencapture utility. Very good program.

And though it doesn't run from the drive and requires an install, I find it very handy to have a copy of the K-Lite Codec pack on the drive.

7  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Looking for Helpdesk/Incident Tracking software on: December 30, 2006, 03:05:26 AM
Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone might have a recommendation for a good incident tracking software.

I'm not looking for a lot of bells and whistles, just a simple way to track support tickets. Oh, and a knowledge base function would also be helpful.
