1  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Pale Moon: How to navigate w Home/End? on: Today at 02:58:06 AM
For 8 months I was forced to use Internet Explorer and Firefox 23, and thus forgot how to navigate the Internet pages, when using Pale Moon!  embarassed

In "a" Internet browser you can navigate the Internet pages by using your keyboard's Home, End. But not in Pale Moon! In my Pale Moon 25.3.1 (x86) these buttons will merely navigate the lines / objects, not the page: The cursor will move exactly as if you were typing a text in a message box; "Home" goes to the beginning of the same line, instead of to the top of the page!

Pale Moon doesn't have a (sorry, I don't remember the exact phrase right now) "Always navigate something ..keyboard.. something" -option.

I am on a laptop, so navigation is already difficult, and I need it to be as easy as possibly.

So, dear Pale Moon user, how did you overcome this problem?  tellme

Or is it just me?  smiley

4  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Why won't my laptop run Firefox? on: March 30, 2015, 06:03:54 PM
Last August I lost my PC and was forced to take this old laptop into use. To my surprise it won't run Firefox, but only Internet Explorer! (...)

Today I am running all browser marques!
Q:
So, what was wrong?
A:
My NET Framework was broken!

Ehm... Internet browsers don't ask for NET Framework, in order to work? No, not as far as I know, they don't. Nevertheless, this is all I did to cure my laptop: I was looking in Revo Uninstaller Pro, and somehow managed to be aware that NET Framework was not listed. I knew that it was installed, so why wasn't it listed? I downloaded the newest version (4.5.2) and the installer asked if I wanted to remove or repair my Framework? - so obviously it was installed, as I thought it was - and therefore I clicked Repair: and Voilà! All sorts of Internet browsers are now running on my laptop!

However, if you go to the normal homepage, their asking price which I was given right now is €10, not "$30":

I don't bother to check what the asking price would be another day; I already have quite a few keys for this fine program - and I always paid $10.

10  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: WinPatrol going subscription on: March 23, 2015, 06:23:05 PM
I rather see something start as (a wow that's expensive) shareware from the start   than free then not free  after X years

I agree. It is in general a lot more disappointing when freeware becomes shareware, than the other way around... Hehe. Well, to be fair, I must say, it can be 'suspicious' when a good shareware program becomes free of charge.

Regarding WinPatrol: I bought a couple of the very cheap license keys because I fully expected their prices to go up, or the company to die (by 'now'!).

I won't comment anymore,

An "enhanced" Thunderbird?

Over time, some design decisions have been made about Thunderbird's user interface that we don't agree with.

SoftMaker has developed several extensions for Thunderbird that integrate it better with SoftMaker Office and revert some controversial design decisions made by Mozilla. With the SoftMaker extensions, Thunderbird sees the return of a regular menu bar and a proper title bar for the application window. The extensions also offer new functions for efficient filing and navigation in folders with large volumes of e-mail.

Additionally, SoftMaker has developed an import filter for eM Client databases. The filter enables fully automated migration of e-mails, address books, calendars, and tasks from eM Client to Thunderbird.

We will ship these extensions together with the upcoming SoftMaker Office 2016 and Thunderbird

WinUtilities is now at version 11, and is being given away (today only) by "Shareware On Sale".
Free, but no updates:

or a so-called lifetime key, but merely for 1 computer:
http://sharewareonsale.com/s/winutilities-pro-sale => $12 instead of $32½

So, their best offer would be the 3-computer lifetime license:
https://secure.avangate.c...3DSO3%26AFFILIATE%3D52714 => $20 (plus VAT) instead of $80 = 75% off.

I have tested the $140 SoftOrbits RemoveLogoNow, and the result was unacceptably poor. I would not even accept the result if their asking price had been a hundred dollar lower!

You will get a better result the hard way, if you split each video into individual frames, one picture per frame, (at, say, 25 per second, that is a lot of pictures!!), and then run the $20 >Batch Inpaint< from Teorex; it will do a much, much better job. But to finish, you will of course have to first merge the pictures into a video file again, and then sync the new video with the sound from the original video - which is why it is important that the 'split' is "per frame", not just some easier frequency. I don't know what program can do this split, for you.

All in all, you'll probably get the best result the easiest way, if you trial Adobe and Sony, and such.

Should the new 2016-version also have a new name?

20  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Remove Embedded Watermarks in Videos on: March 16, 2015, 05:38:03 PM
A few years back these interesting instructions were posted:

Quote from: ehow
How to Remove a Watermark From a Video

Download and install Adobe Premiere Pro. Adobe Premiere Pro has a free-trial download and the software can quickly eliminate watermarks.
or
Download and install Sony Vegas. Sony Vegas has a free-trial download and the software can quickly eliminate watermarks.
or
Download and install Adobe After Effects. Adobe After Effects has a free-trial download and the software can quickly eliminate watermarks.

For full instructions:

But of course, that was then. I don't know if the trials  still are 'free'.

There will be a transition period of two release cycles (12 weeks total) during which unsigned extensions will only generate a warning in Firefox.

After the transition period, it will not be possible to install unsigned extensions in Release or Beta versions of Firefox. There won’t be any preferences or command line options to disable this.

Installation of unsigned extensions will still be possible on Nightly and Developer Edition, as well as special, unbranded builds of Release and Beta that will be available mainly for developers testing their extensions.
22  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Need help cleaning virus inside HTML files on: March 16, 2015, 11:07:47 AM
This guy said it would be both faster and safer, to do it manually:
http://cleanbytes.net/vbs...t-shortcuts-virus-removal

However, you may want to try if USB-Fix can help you out:

But other than that, I have no knowledge about these matters.
I wish you good luck!
23  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Recommendations for a free image viewer with strong editing features on: March 14, 2015, 05:43:13 PM
Maybe forget about having a super editing viewer! In some viewers you simply click a keyboard hotkey and the picture will open in 1 of 3 of your genuine editors! In my setup Shift+1 will open app1 which I use only for cropping. Shift+2 will open another app for painting, and Shift+3 will open my super editor.

This procedure is faster than searching for one or the other editing programs, because IrfanView also has a keyboard hotkey of its own: Ctrl+Shit+i.

Sadly, IrfanView itself and most of the plugins are not "Unicode". I am not all happy recommending IrfanView!  embarassed

24  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Keyboard Shortcut for "Hamburger Menu" in Firefox? on: March 13, 2015, 03:04:34 PM
"The Firefox button was removed in Firefox 29 and replaced with the Hamburger menu icon."

^ I didn't know this, and I had no idea what a Hamburger Menu was, so your post send me off, to search for answers.

The first answer was, to kill it!!

Quote from: techcrunch
That little three-lined button is the devil. Whether you call it a side menu, navigation drawer, or a hamburger, hiding your features off-screen behind a nondescript icon in the corner is usually a poor mobile design choice. Interaction theory, A/B tests, and the evolution of some of the top apps in the world all support the same thesis: The hamburger button is bad for engagement

http://techcrunch.com/201...mburger-button-kills-you/

The next article's author suggested the menu should be upgraded to Cheeseburger menus!

Quote from: The Atlantic
If nothing else, we could follow Josh's advice on improving the hamburger icon: "Cheeseburger menu. Because everything is better with cheese."

http://www.theatlantic.co...urger-menu-debate/379145/

The third answer was actually about hamburgers, but then it was from McDonalds, and I prefer Burger King...

------------------------------

I still don't know the answer to your question (!), ewemoa, but in my mind the lack of the old Firefox button is the real problem. Here is an addon to solve this:

http://www.ghacks.net/201...ic-theme-restorer-add-on/
https://addons.mozilla.or...don/classicthemerestorer/

Quote from: Classic Theme Restorer
8: Display Firefox application button

The Firefox button was removed in Firefox 29 and replaced with the Hamburger menu icon. It is possible to restore it using Classic Theme Restorer. You can define its position, customize it visually and functionality wise.

One answer said "I absolutely love that I can move the search box to inside the hamburguer menu and still get to it pressing Ctrl+K", so I was wondering if you simply are missing the sidebars? Try Sidebars List: https://addons.mozilla.or...efox/addon/sidebars-list/  It should also let you have Ctrl+B and Ctrl+H back.

Quote from: Sidebars List
Adds drop-down list to switch sidebars

[attachimg=#]

/Given that Mozilla removed the Bookmarks and History Sidebar toolbar buttons in Fx29, it's good that this still works. Thanks.

The real problem is of course the UI re-design by Mozilla, so give Pale Moon a try!  thumbs up  http://www.palemoon.org
