You could always setup a virtual machine with a program like VirtualBox. Then you can set it to any resolution and scroll across the screen.

I think this is a cool project and would love to learn more.  Have you thought about making the project open source?  There are several programming features I was always interested in learning like multi-monitor support and a plugin API.  Obviously up to you, but since it is a fun side project, I thought you might be willing.  I'm sure several people on this forum would be able to contribute and help the project along.

My personal advice is to not be scared of the stock market.  In the long run your returns will be better than any bank.  You just have to keep it there for a while.  The past couple years you would have made all of your money back.  Find low-expense etfs and index funds and let it coast for 10-20 years.

It is a good idea to use a high-yield account like ING for cash savings though.  Keep at it and don't follow any get-rich-quick schemes.

I assume you are using Windows?

I know in linux it is a simple "wc -l" command.  Maybe that could help in some way.  Not sure how to do it in Windows.

I started running Arch Linux about 5 months ago (after learning on Ubuntu).  I removed Windows within one month and have never had the need to install it.  The only problem I have is with work (they use Windows-only software), but they supply a Windows laptop for me to use.

While the 10 great ideas about Linux seems arrogant (as a lot of Linux users are), it really is so customizable that there is no reason a downside cannot be solved.  The only downside I have run into are having to pay close attention to upgrades.  Programs are rapidly developing for Linux and a lot of things can go wrong if you do not pay attention to the the install notes.  But upgrades are really needed only once or twice a month. 

As zridling is discovering, it takes time to learn the new commands/filesystem, but in the end I recommend everyone at least try some distro out, it's worth it.

I created a small Delphi application that only serves to set a hotkey and move to focus for typing.  I set the hotkey to the same (for reaction time) and then tried typing a normal shortcut.

It always caught the first letter even with a quicker typing pace.  However, it also appeared right away.  Obviously this program did not have to hide in the system tray and was only set to a background window.  It also did not have to load any other controls or access the hard drive.  But my main thought is that the window show time is what causes the first letter to get cut off.  Not sure what can be done, but I thought this might help you out.

I really appreciate the update so quickly.  However, I'm still having the same issue.

While I realize this is separate from Explorer, hitting Windows Key + R and then typing will catch all letters, without delay.  I don't think it's a problem of not catching the first letter (this works well once the window is displayed), but rather still a loading delay of the window.  I'm noticing about a .5 delay until the window appears, while the Explorer run dialog displays instantaneously.  It might be a limitation of Windows.  I'll try some of my own tests with some basic hotkey programs in Delphi/VB.

Thanks for the quick response.  It's a great piece of software and I'm still finding out all the little tweaks I can do.

I am using the latest v1.10.02.  Whenever I press the hotkey, like Ctrl+Space, and start typing to find something, there is a slight delay and it skips the first letter.  So if I was searching for "notepad," it would come out "otepad" and open something else.  I really would like it to be faster, so I can type right away.

It's only searching the start-menu and quicklaunch, nothing else.  I noticed previously you could keep it in memory.  Anything I can do to speed up the display?

I'm on a 1.8ghz Pentium core duo with 1 gig of ram.
