3  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Softmaker Office 2016 released on: June 18, 2015, 01:00:23 PM
Am I the only one getting annoyed with the labeling of products as "2016 edition" well before 2016 (even the fiscal year) even arrives? The car industry is notorious for this, but it appears to be hitting the software world too. Is there some psychological aspect to make people think "Wow, they released the 2016 edition in the middle of 2015, this must be that much better!"

I pulled the trigger as well. Uninstalled AdMuncher, installed AdGuard and my first few youtube tests were ad free.  My browser feels a bit snappier, too, but I'm thinking that might just be my imagination.

It's probably not your imagination. Ad Muncher *still* has not implemented support for gzip compression, but AdGuard has had it for quite some time. That could explain the snappiness you are experiencing.

Don't forget HTTP 1.1 which supports connection pipelining and various other protocol enhancements.

Sample line

2014-10-10 19:28:01.110::ErrorMsg::CtrlChan Error_Decode [192.192.192.192]

If, and only if, the line has CtrlChan in it do I want to extract the IP address from the line. This will be a very large file (200+MB per file) with a large number of different entries.
16  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Regexp help on: November 04, 2014, 07:58:38 PM
So...Here is a single line of what I am trying to filter:

SOME DATE TIME GROUP HERE :: CtrlChan Some more text here [192.192.192.192]

I want to filter out the IP address in any line that contains CtrlChan.
17  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Regexp help on: November 04, 2014, 07:00:13 PM
Alright, I am trying to create a regexp that performs the following:

Selects an IP address from a line but only if the line starts with a pre-defined text string. There will be text in between the text string and the IP address -- I want to ignore the entire line except for the IP address. I know this is do-able but it is driving me nuts.

Any ideas?
18  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: IP Address Assignment Manager - Does one exist? on: October 06, 2014, 11:01:55 PM
I've used solarwinds extensively but found it to be far too complex for my needs. I am tempted to create an access database to organization my networks but I felt perhaps something already existed to do this that wasn't focused on automated discovery, but manual management.
19  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Mind Mapping Software - What are the current top players now? on: October 06, 2014, 11:00:12 PM
Alright all, I know this is a topic that routinely comes up here, but i was wondering...what are the current top players in this realm of software now? I am looking for a way to diagram out my thoughts, and create relationships based on them or identify new trends or connections between various topics, for research I partake in as part of my graduate studies.

Any thoughts? smiley Thanks again!

22  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / IP Address Assignment Manager - Does one exist? on: October 01, 2014, 08:00:28 AM
Alright DC hive mind, I seek your wisdom.

I know there are several IP Address Management tools out there that allow you to manage your networks by detecting active addresses, performing scans for inactive hosts, etc. What I am looking for is something different. I want to be able to assign a higher level subnet, say a /23, and break out by location where each network is allocated. I would like the ability to search for an active subnet, say a /27, to issue out to a new device or mark a range no longer in use and available for issue.

Does such a product exist?
