DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: drag window to edge automatically resizes it

I found this utility as I was looking for a way to define Windows for certain programs to be placed on a specific screen and a specific size. This looks like it *ALMOST* fits the bill. Which leads to this suggestion: I'd like to be able to define certain programs to automatically go to a certain grid location - doable? WinSize2 may do what you want. But you have to position the windows manually, then press a hotkey to memorize size and position. The first time that window opens with WinSize2 running, it will move and size it if needed. http://winsize2.sourceforge.net/en/index.htmlFantastic find! I love it, does exactly what I wanted and exceeded my expectations

Is this great tool being developed further? I just discovered it. I'm wanting to place some shortcuts on the bottom of my second monitor, but can't seem to get it to work - looks like the same issue previously reported. Also, I see the "experimental " preserve desktop icon locations - this looks like it's just sorting alphabetically the desktop icons? Pretty scary...watching my icons bounce all over the place until I recognized what it was doing. This might be an IDEA I'll post, but thought I'd mention it here too, since there's is (I think) an attempted functionality with the "preserve desktop icon locations" option. I've made Icon Restore part of my standard desktop - I love it. But I find it doesn't work in Windows 7. I sure would like "somebody" to be able to provide this same functionality in Windows 7 (hint, hint) :-)

Getting it working is good for me. I can upload stuff here and grab it at work. I do a lot of my stuff at home cause the companies computers suck. I use to just mail files back and forth now I can just drag and drop. One more use for my massive never going to fill it with mail anyway gmail account.
Hey Might Pete - if it's easy file transfer you're looking for, DropBox is a great service (2GB free). And if you'd be so kind as to use the link provided to sign up, you'll earn us both additional 250MB.

Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Upgrading RoboForm from v6 to v7: worthwhile?

I too had been a long-time Roboform user and advocate. I wasn't necessarily so put off about the new licensing, but had discovered LastPass when they bought X-Marks (which I love). Recognizing that it would be a replacement of Roboform, I reluctantly decided to give it a spin, as I like the idea of keeping my bookmarks/favorites sync'd between multiple computers and across each of my browsers (Chrome/Firefox/IE).
I have to say, I was impressed, and became a convert - now I'm sorry I paid for the Roboform upgrade. I'll be migrating to LastPass completely, and eventually dumping RoboForm.
As for the v6 vs v7 - I'm not impressed. As a major rev, I had hoped to see some feature requests included, and more significant benefit. In fact, before discovering LastPass, I had decided to keep all my other Roboform instances to v6 and avoid v7 until some new feature compelled me to make the jump. But of course, now all that is moot.

DonationCoder.com Software / Finished Programs / SOLVED: tile open windows for given task in task bar
|
on: January 23, 2011, 10:42:20 AM

I'm a sloppy user - I often have many windows open. Often I'll find 8 or more notepad tasks (for example). Though Windows7 task bar lets me click on the task bar and see thumbnails of each of the notepad windows, what I'd *really* like is to be able to right-click on that task menu for a given app, and choose Tile (or cascade), and it would minimize all my other windows, then bring forward and tile/cascade my open notepad windows (or any other multi-windowed application selected in the taskbar)

DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / IDEA: consolidate multiple IE Windows' tabs to single IE Window
|
on: January 23, 2011, 10:37:58 AM

As much as I try to keep Chrome and/or Firefox as my preferred browser, I still manage to find myself in IE. I wish that IE would just keep one Window with multiple tabs. Althought the task bar (Win 7) will show all the tabs in a list, I find you can't tell how many actual IE windows are open. I'd like to be able to transfer all tabs in other IE windows into the primary IE window, then close all the other IE windows. Make sense?
A primary benefit to keeping one IE window is I *could* just bookmark all open tabs as a "Return" group prior to my needing to restart IE or reboot my computer.
