1  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Ad Muncher 5 will be free on: October 23, 2014, 01:40:26 PM
I registered over 13 years ago and (probably as an early adopter) admuncher hasn't cost me a penny since.
I have what I consider to be a personalized registration which I appreciate.
admuncher is always one of the first I install and has worked satisfactorily all this time. there's only a few programs that I personally hold in such high regard.
2  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Software for planning wood bookcases/cabinets/tables etc? on: October 03, 2014, 03:25:10 PM
(mouser), I was looking at that homedesignersoftware suite because I'm thinking about remodeling the kitchen (small). but I read somewhere that counter tops couldn't be 'designed' with the suite version. not that it needs to emulate a granite counter top but a kitchen model with that bit missing isn't much good.
kitchen is squarish but 3 doors take up a lot of wall estate. I would like to 'open up' one wall (a bit more dramatically than you did) and get an idea of what it might look like. (worried about reinforcing what studs remain on that wall to' take the weight).
sketchup looks far too 'bitsy' (model every bit) and HDS suite maybe can't handle it.
any other software suggestions?
thanks
3  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Pdf Editor 4.5 from Cadkas.com on: October 03, 2014, 03:10:18 PM
no, but the only pdf editor I've found that's worth a damn was made by foxit.
it used to be sold separately but now I believe it's hidden in their business suite.

meh, just sayin explaining how to use command line e-mail tools for yahoo or gmail is too close to explaining how to send spam for me to be comfortable.
8  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Firefox 29 - soooooo similar to Chrome on: May 07, 2014, 03:46:30 PM
similar problems also but I put them down to admuncher or ghostery.
sometimes switch to an IE engine in FF works, others it's full IE.
9  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Firefox 29 - soooooo similar to Chrome on: May 06, 2014, 03:43:01 PM
I had a short sojourn with chrome while mozilla sorted themselves out a month or so ago.
I was glad to get back to FF to be honest but v29 saw me switching to pale moon as fast as I could.
seems strange that mozilla dumped a metroUI version of FF only to foist the dregs on everyones desktop version.
(I have tried through several devices but RT really is a crock of pooh)

I've been using syncovery since super-flexible days and it's been perfect for syncing production machines with our disaster recovery site. extremely configurable.
while I don't have any suggestions I recommend both the dev & software wholeheartedly.

Shades of 1776!

taxation without representation?
as a legal alien, I've lived and been taxed in USA for 14 years.
I don't have any representation, so give it a rest.
13  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: jv16 PowerTools - using Indiegogo to 'fund'' open-sourcing it on: March 13, 2014, 10:30:44 AM
IMO it's a dead (very) product and macecraft is laughing all the way to the bank.
does it go 'open source' (whoopee) when it doesn't reach $100,000?
does macecraft just pocket what money was funded?

you do get a lifetime license for a dead product.

I've used BC for many years now. though not a heavy user, it's always done for me.

15  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Beware the Samsung rootkit on: February 18, 2014, 09:50:39 AM
found this software on a different pc with kies installed. so one with and one without.
I have to agree with IainB post. as far as I can tell this software was used by the samsung store for DRM and also signed content so it could be played on older samsung phones/mp3 players.
it uninstalled without issue too.

I have kies 3 installed but none of the registry entries or files you've listed.

if you ask me (which you didn't) they're asking for funding for an application that's already been written, was relevant back in XP days and has little to no current value.
looks like a duck, walks like a duck...

I got around all this by briefly perusing the e-mail (i also received it) and then deleting it.

use one of the many pdf stamp utilities and slap a background coloured stamp over the top of whatever you want to hide.

23  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Would a 41 megapixel camera get you to buy a Windows 8 phone? on: February 22, 2013, 03:47:23 PM
I have a nokia 808 pureview.
It's an excellent phone and a phenomenal phone camera. symbian was axed, it hasn't died. there's millions of users worldwide if you can look beyond your own borders.
24  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: which is the most advanced pdf editor? on: January 18, 2013, 03:35:39 PM
foxit pdf editor used to be excellent for the job.
However, it is now part of their business suite which is the most expensive version.
It's still a stand-alone program within the suite.
Last I checked I don't think the installer created an icon for it and it was only checking the install dir that revealed it still existed.

failing that, probably adobe livecycle which is now a separate product from acrobat pro.
25  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: In search of ... charting, course plotting software on: December 26, 2012, 12:42:58 PM
I like polar navy myself, they have a linux version and it runs with the free charts.
however I've not used it in anger yet as my sailing has primarily been using mkII eyeball.
