I am looking into the question of making currency transfers between the UK and the US and wondered if anyone had any experience of, or thoughts on, a cheap (and reliable/secure) method. Using an online service would not be my first choice but in general it does seem to be cheaper so I may have to use that method. One thing I have come across is http://www.currencyfair.com/company which needs to be set up online but transactions can then be carried out by phone. Has anybody ever used them? Has anybody ever heard of them? Gives a whole new world of meaning to P2P! Looks interesting but why does a site/company based in Ireland, England and Australia have an option to load the site in Polish ??? (See top-right on site.)

Coincidentally, though, I just saw a thing on TechRepublic that mentioned a client I haven't previously heard of: i.Scribe. Anyone tried it? The free version is limited, the commercial version is $10, adds support for multiple identities/accounts... but the author's spelling is worrying I have been using InScribe for about ten years, it might not be as powerful as The Bat! but has some options that I really need : in particularly the Preview option to view messages on the server. BTW the author is from New Zealand (re spelling) (PS I've nothing to do with InScribe's development ... but I do try to support apps that I like and regularly use.)

I have never looked on this board before and this thread caught my attention.
After a lifetime of being right-handed I lost most of the use of my right arm and hand (permanently) 7 years ago.
I have looked into lots of different advice and information about how to do things left-handed and in my case came to two conclusions: 1. I will never be as dextrous with my left hand as I was with my right. 2. Like everything else, what works for some does not work for others.
I manage to do most of what I need to do albeit in a much longer time than before, I even managed to build a new computer last year although it took me 2 hours just to fit the CPU cooler. If I have an annoyance where computers are concerned it is a Netbook with the FN key over to the left and most of the keys that work with it over to the right.
joiwind,
Hopefully by the time you have worked out your own tips and tricks you will no longer need them.
Best wishes.
Pilgrim.
Thanks for your post pilgrim and I'm sorry to hear about your disability, all the best, Martin.

Have a look at WindowsPager which I use constantly. It sits on the taskbar not in the tray but may fit the bill : Features: * virtual desktops, workspaces for Windows Vista/7/XP/2000 * arrange your running applications on different desktops to improve overview * integration into the panel * several patterns possible * 64 bit support * move windows between desktops by drag 'n drop or by using the window menu * optional keyboard shortcuts for switching the desktop * set a window "sticky": always visible * "Mini-Windows" give an overview from each desktop * support for "Flashing-Windows" (notify for new messages in Mirc for example) * keep a window above all others by selecting "Keep on top" from the window menu * drag `n drop between desktops * dual/multi monitor support * no administrator rights necessary * no installation * safe: automatic window restore even on crash by use of two separate processes.

Thanks guys for all the kind words and excellent council. I obviously can't reply to every point made but I really appreciate it all.
I wouldn't wish this on anyone in spite of the positive side : it does make you realise how we take things for granted, just blithely going along as if nothing will ever change and suddenly everything does.
Many thanks.

Thanks for the typing tip Renegade, that will help - I'm also looking for ideas for "everyday" things : try cutting a slice of bread from a loaf with only your left hand. I know there is a range of objects for left-handers like tin openers and stuff but I'm looking more for great ideas, tips and so on. I'm managing to dress myself and can eat fairly well with a fork in the left hand but I bet there's a whole lot of knowledge out there just right for this kind of situation. BTW obviously this brings home what it's like for so many people who spend their whole life facing these difficulties. On the up-side it is said that one develops loads more new synapses when trying to function with the "other" hand ...

Hi friends : I've just broken my right arm at the base of the radius near the wrist - pins, plaster and pain. I'm right-handed and am typing this with my left. So I'm looking for ideas and gadgets to use with just my left-hand (no jokes please ...) that may make things easier ... thanks.

Looks to be a very nice program. But I personally can't justify taking the time to give it a thorough tryout because I know I'll never end up purchasing a license for it. The standalone version is free ... My worry in this regard is that it has been mentioned that there will be a free and a pro version of standalone Daminion. Nobody knows what the difference between them will be, but it has been mentioned that the pro version might cost $149. Now, I do not want to get locked into an image organizer (nice as it may be), if I end up in a position where I will need to spend $149 to keep using it. Please note that I am not saying the price is unreasonable or anything, Daminion really has a lot going for it, it's just way outside my DAM budget, and not knowing if I will be able to work with the free version makes it too uncertain for me . http://daminion.net/user-...ng-structure-and-license/Yes true, I don't know - I think only Murat could answer about that.

Thanks for the new version skwire : useful additions. About the expanded view : what do you think about an option to show/hide columns ? I tried deleting column numbers from the config.ini on the ExpViewOrder line but they keep coming back ! And, though I think this has been requested before : how about moon phases and moonrise and moonset times - or doesn't Yahoo do that ?
