1  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA- Roll Back WMP11 in Vista on: February 24, 2009, 11:38:34 AM
Dude, I have to say going back to WMP10 is a stupid idea, and this was a badly planned request. Forgive me if I sound a bit harsh, but I am surprised that you are unable to see this for yourself. WMP11 was not "forced into" Vista, it is an integral part of the new operating system. Since it is not an update that was added to Vista after manufacture, it was not forced into it, it was simply a piece of the system as Internet Explorer 7 is a part of Vista. Also, you seem to be unable "research" in as simple a way as going to google and searching for it. When I type "windows media player 10 vista" (without quotes) into google the third option gives instructions how to do exactly what you want. Link [here]. This is only one link among many others that tell how to do this. Besides all of this, there are two other points. (1) It's not "MSoft's" fault that the manufacturer of your player is not providing updates to make your player compatible with new technology, so there is no need for them to acknowledge a problem that is not theirs. If you have a problem, you should complain about the player manufacturer, not Microsoft. (2) Many of the problems that you are experiencing are simple issues that are easily repaired by doing Windows Updates and updates to the firmware of your device. Even the manufacturers suggest this.

Please take some time in the future to check your request before asking someone to make you a custom program to do something that appears to be readily available elsewhere.
2  DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Hotkey to mute active program/other programs in Vista on: February 24, 2009, 11:11:05 AM
Windows Vista has a feature that allows the user to select individual volume controls for each program from the volume control mixer. I often like to listen to music on my computer from Winamp in the background, but wish to mute the active program. An example is Internet Explorer or Firefox. If there is some annoying flash advertisement, I want to mute the active program while leaving my music playing. Another example is playing racing games while listening to music. Sometimes you just want to mute the game and leave the music going. Normally, this involves pressing the windows key (when the game is fullscreen), clicking on the volume icon in the taskbar, clicking on "mixer", then changing the volume or mute status of the game. I would prefer a hotkey to mute the active window/program. Even if the minimization of the game is unavoidable, it would be worth it.

On the other hand, I would like to have a separate hotkey do the opposite sometimes. If I am on the internet and I run across an interesting video, I want to mute Winamp or any other interfering programs and unmute Internet Explorer or Firefox. Another example: Windows Media Player is my registered music player for mp3 songs and movies. I constantly use Winamp, so I may run across an interesting mp3 or video on my computer that I want to see, but I have music already playing that interferes.

Let me state that I already have hotkeys that control Winamp for play/pause/stop/mute and other functions. I could, in the last circumstance, just use my winamp hotkeys, but that won't help me at a time when I am using another program for media like Windows Media Player.

You probably don't know this, but there is a much easier way to do this. You can do this with no user interface by setting "HKCU\Control Panel\Mouse", "SwapMouseButtons" to 1 or 0 and using DllCall user32.dll SwapMouseButton 1 or 0.

I would like to see a small program that when you hover over a taskbar item (one of the listed windows), instead of showing some miniature thumbnail (like in vista), Show and bring to front the actual window. If you really want to switch to that window, click on the taskbar item. If not, moving off the taskbar brings back the last focused window as-was. You could even go so far as to have the other windows "shaded" (partially transparent) in the background.

I have been trying to code this same thing off-and-on for a long time, but was unfamiliar with the way to do it. I am so very happy that you have done this and have made it available for free!

I use a Bible program called E-Sword. I also have an Acer Aspire One laptop. This laptop has a screen resolution of 1024x600, which makes for some "interesting" reading scenarios. I wanted to view the Bible in full screen without the additional menus and controls, but E-Sword is coded in visual basic, so it "knows" if one of its controls have been resized inside of itself. Therefore, I was unable to do anything with it. Your "fix" of taking the control out of the program altogether is a real breakthrough for this program, and makes it possible to work with it without issues.

Once again, Thank you very much for this program and what it does for me. This is invaluable.

Unfortunately, I have posted this idea on the wrong board. I have moved it to the correct location here.
