Assuming that you mean OneNote 2013, it works fine with that.

Hi Matarile,

I'm sorry you are having trouble, but I cannot reproduce the error you get. If I give the exact same command "do Mow lawn /due sat /cat house /totalwork 2" the task is created as expected.

I suggest that you try downloading the version that I included as an attachment to a reply to someone a few posts back and see if perhaps that one works better.

Please keep me informed - I want this to work for you!

No, that's not the one - I forgot how to get access to my donationcoder.com page.
Try the one attached here. It also supports a /location switch.

Glad you like the utility! On the previous page, in an answer to someone else, I attached a version of do.exe that supports a /nodate switch.

Help! I'm looking to be able to sort on "created date" instead of last modified date.  Is there anything out there now or about to come out?
I'll try and add this option to the sort utility in the coming weeks.

I'm getting the same error trying to install OneNote2010SortSetup.exe.

"The type initializer for 'JrOnomNamespace.OnenoteHierarchy' threw an exception."

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and Office 2010 32-bit.  I have .NET Framework 4 Client Profile installed.

My goal is to sort pages by last modified date, or by creation date.  Sort Pages powertoy won't work because it only sorts alphabetically.

Thanks for your work on this project.

OK, I moved this up on my todo list. Thanks for wanting to try this Wink

Hiya!

I'm getting the same error that Saurgarg was getting:

Quote
The type initializer for 'JrOnomNamespace.OnenoteHierarchy' threw an exception.

And I do have .Net 4 installed (client profile and extended, version 4.0.30319), MS Office v14.0.4734.1000 (64-bit) and using local files. Could it be that I'm using the 64-bit version?

Thanks!
Rob

All I know about the 64-bit version of Office is that it seems to cause all sorts of problems Wink Let me put it this way: I would not at all be surprised if this turns out to be the cause, but I have no idea why this should be so. I am going to try and find some time to make a version that catches the exception and does something more useful with it, but time is scarce ... Meanwhile, there are now also 2010 versions of the Sort Sections powertoy (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/j...toy-for-onenote-2010.aspx) and the Sort Pages powertoy (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/j...nenote-2010.aspx#10125507). Maybe those will do for your needs.

Start menu? What's that?

The signing is not an issue, I can live with it  Cool

Regarding the category: I think I found the issue... My categories are GTD-style, so I have one called "@WAITING FOR". So can you please try again with this example? I think the @-sign causes the issue.

Thanks again!
Koen

You are right, the @ is causing the problem. This is because the @ serves as a GTD-style category switch (undocumented), but I am not handling this well, as I can see now (a very quick-n-dirty addition) - I'll fix that, but am very busy at the moment. I myself have a category @WaitingFor (no space) and use it like this: do test @WaitingFor. I'll fix this, but dont know when.

Stay tuned;)

Addition: Try this: do test "@Waiting For"

The signing: I also have XP but I have no option to disable this warning, so the popup arrives all the time.

The category: can you try with a category having blanks? eg.    do test /cat "test cat" /nd

I'm sorry about the signing - I don't really know what to do about this, this is the first time I heard this complaint.

Category: do test /cat "test cat" /nd created a task with (new) category "test cat".
do test /cat test cat /nd created a task with (new) categories test and cat.

In other words, I cannot reproduce your category problem either. But I don't want any dissatisfied users. Any suggestions?

Hi,
Thanks for this updated version, it works fine!
Two remarks:
- The version is not signed, so I need to click on "Run" every time (Safety check)
- There seems to be an issue with the category-flag: it creates the item with an additional '/category'-category.

Thanks for analysing.
Koen

Hello Koen,

About the signing issue, I run XP and there I just need to tell the system once to not show this dialog box. I assume you use Windows 7, I don't know (yet) how things work there. You can't suppress this?

About the category flag thing, I can't reproduce this. If I do "do test /cat testcat" it all works as expected. Can you elaborate?

I was using the latest FireFox and its downloader, which did not produce a zip file that worked (this is the first time I have had this issue on any download). But you were right, your file link is good. I started up Google Chrome and downloaded using it and got a perfectly good file.  There is something going on with the FireFox downloading, it seems.

Anyway, I installed your program. Very nice, simple and understandable interface. I selected my section of Notes, with 799 pages in it (no subpages). Before I ran the sort, I went to the OneNote folder and did a right click, copy, paste and rename of the file so that I would have a backup, in case anything went wrong with the sort). Since your program throws up a warning that the sort can't be undone, it would be nice to give the option to do a backup or suggest the user do it, just because there is so much in OneNote that can be lost.

When I ran the sort, it took a few seconds to run the sort and complete the sort of 799 pages. Perfect results!

As an external program, it is nice as a way of ordering what you have.

I encourage you to keep up on this and maybe spread the word on other forums, like the Microsoft OneNote forums, so that others can benefit from your gem of a sort solution!

Glad it works for you!
I posted this on the OneNote Microsoft Answers forum as well, months ago, so people should be able to find it, but maybe I should post a reminder.
This will remain an external program rather than an add-in until the OneNote team make it easier to make an add-in for the 2010 version Wink

Any new updates to the Sort OneNote 2010?

I tried downloading the zip file and extracting the contents, and got the Windows message that the zip cannot be opened.

It appears to me that there is a significant need for this solution. I have a lot of notes that I have moved from Outlook to OneNote and I have had them in sorted alphabetical order by title of the page (that is tab) while using OneNote 2007. Now that I am on OneNote 2010, I cannot sort using the prior sort addin that was available.

I don't have subpages but do need to sort tabs within a section, so when I create a new one, like I just did for DonationCoder, I don't have to manually drag it up from the bottom of the list to the "c" area through 650 other pages already there.

Thanks in advance.

I just downloaded and opened the zip file without any problems! Please try again.

Good luck!

Hi Walbert,

Here is a version of do.exe that will take /nodate or /nd as a switch to create a task with no start and due dates.
Please let me know if there are any problems, or more wishes.

Enjoy!

I just installed this, very convenient tool   smiley

Is there a way to specify 'no date' for start and due date? For creating open-ended tasks.

Hi Walbert! Sorry, I missed your post, so I'm late in responding.

Well ,come to think of it, I don't think it's possible to create dateless tasks with this utility. This must change! I'll dig up the source code and make this possible. When it's done, I'll report back here.

Great little tool. How can I turn this very annoying sound it makes when adding a new task. I work in an open office and the sound it makes is prohibitive to using it.

Thanks! Use "do /settings" and uncheck "Beeps".

Enjoy the utility!

Build 28 uploaded. Please give it a shot.

Sorry timns, after a while working with 28, the arrow keys started up again, as well as the HOME and END keys.

Left arrow: ♦
Right arrow: ♠
Up arrow: ◘
Down arrow: seems to work ok.

But it's all unpredictable == difficult to fix I'm afraid Sad

Hi, I used Version 24 for a half hour or so, with language Dutch and keyboard US International (freaky?). Accented characters seem to be fine now (no thorough testing yet, mind you, just doing my regular work), but after a while, my arrow keys started generating card symbols again. Also, Alt-Tab switches applications, but also inserts a TAB character in the text. So, I closed Auspex again, for the time being ...

Hi timns - this looks like a very nice and useful tool!

However, I am having serious problems using Dutch regional settings and the US International keyboard. This keyboard allows me to easily use characters like ë in words like cliënt (the quotation/double quotation key becomes a dead key - you type "e to get ë). But Auspex does not feel happy about this. In fact, when Auspex is running, the dead keys no longer work - hitting the " key generates "".

Also, replacement strings with dead characters get mangled: the replacement string cliëntenraad gets rendered as cli¿enraad in the UI after closing and restarting Auspex, and generates clienraad when actually replacing. Also, sometimes the arrow keys suddenly start generating card symbols (cannot reproduce this reliably).

Hope this helps - keep up the good work!
