I have  used them Tomos, and they do work.  Especially on Win 8, since I am not used to it, things are more difficult.

8  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Best Linux Distro for Windows HDD recovery on: December 02, 2014, 01:31:44 PM
Actually I do try Windows first to see if I can copy files.  But it doesn't do any good when Windows doesn't see the drive.  But Linux can.  I usually use UBCD for a lot of stuff, but in my last case, it didn't do me any good.

So I thought instead of using a live cd, i would just install Linux.  But I guess with a live cd, i can always get the latest and greatest release.

I am somewhat familar with all the ones  you listed above.

thanks for the recommendation.

I have been trying out some Linux rescue disks like BootMed, Avira Rescue Disk, UBCD for windows hard drive recovery.  I am considering installing Linux on a old computer just for this purpose.  Is there a certain distro that comes with lots of recovery tools built into the OS?

appreciate the help

12  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / online charting or mind mapping that intregates with google drive on: November 12, 2014, 01:10:13 PM
I am looking for some kind of app be it desktop, online or what that does flowcharting, mind mapping, or diagramming, whatever you want to call it.

I know a lot can be done with spreadsheets but I have no idea how to start.

all I want is boxes with names and phone numbers inside of them. I don't want lines connecting the boxes.  Just to be able to drag a shape, edit the text and add the next one.  I would like to see something that auto arranges.  Auto arrange by inserting a new box in between 2 existing and then it automatically moves the others to allow the new one to be in place just like the others.  Same thing when I would change the page margins or paper size.

It doesn't need a chromebook app to work, preferrably in the cloud and integrates with google drive.

I have looked at Mindmeister, Mindmup, Mindmaps, Gliffy, Lucidchart.  Lucidchart is the closest but it doesn't auto arrange.

Free would be wonderfull.

I am open to suggestions.

oh Magoo, you've done it again!
14  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Your favorite cartoons of yesterday and today? on: October 07, 2014, 07:30:08 AM
whoops.  Didn't mean to include Davey and Goliath although I used to watch them.

By the time 1967 got here, I was almost in high school, thus no more cartoons until the kids started in the late 70s.
15  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Your favorite cartoons of yesterday and today? on: October 07, 2014, 06:22:04 AM
Most of the ones on this list, I used to watch Cartoons of the 60s

Particularly these: 1-6, 16, 25, 42, 46, 64, 70, 75, 79, 81.  too numerous to mention by name.  I couldn't find the road runner and Wiley e coyote on the list, maybe that was later.

We have one of the older Phasers at one of our schools.  makes a nice copy but its expensive to operate.  The maintenance kit gets replaced every 40k pages.  Have problems with the control panel display too.

22  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / screenshots when not logged into computer on: August 17, 2014, 01:44:17 PM
This has probably been around the block a time or two, so here goes another round.

I am needing to make a tutorial on how to log into a domain on win 7 and also to change users.  I have googled this but apparently do not have the right keywords to find what I want.

It can either be a "screenshot utility" or one that makes a movie. Whatever it is, it needs to be able to record when no one is logged into the computer.

lookin for advice  cheesy
