Sorry for the bump, but i can't seem to get this plugin to work. After i copied the files from the zip, when i try to reload the plugins, i get this error "External exception E0434F4D.". If i quit FARR and run it again, it just crashes at startup.

Any idea why ?

[Edit] Details from the startup crash, if it helps :

rxantos> It's funny you use the "inventor" analogy because it actually works exactly the same. An inventor creates a machine and then every person (or hospital) who wants to use it has to pay and yes, the inventor received money when his invention is sold. And there isn't one unique machine, so when an inventor sells his machine, he can still use the one he has if he wants to. It's the same with pictures : one guy creates a picture and if someone wants to use it (for an article, a book cover, a poster etc), he has to pay to appropriate amount. If people keep on using the picture over and over for the rest of the artist's life then he receives money his entire life, but it's rarely the case.

The part about what you think is art or not is irrelevant, and so is the discussion about inspiration, in my opinion.

Different strokes I suppose.
I think so. There's no need to say "Apps should be more like software" or the opposite, we just need both.

Ye, i saw those Ms Paint videos. It's a nice performance, but that's all it is to me.

Renegade> Well, it's true for rather simple projects. If your project is simple, you'll do better with a simple tool (ie a mobile app). I can doodle on my ipad and make some nice stuff, but for serious work i'll switch to Photoshop, Manga Studio etc.

5
Maybe software doesn't look exciting, but i guess it's actually what you can do with them that is exciting.

The problem is people usually don't treat artistic work as any other kind of work. This guy sees his work stolen (and sold) and what he gets is "But now people know your work, it's good for you" and weirdly it sounds normal to a lot of people. If a guy went to a shop everyday, stole food and share it with his friends and tell the shop owner "Now everyone knows you sell good food, it's good for you", i'm pretty sure the shop owner would respond "I don't care, just stop stealing my food" and most people would agree with him. But artists, they should be be grateful for doing what they love for a loving and shut the hell up when their work is stolen.

Breaking Bad is simply awesome, Bryan Cranston is incredible all the way trought every episode.
I second that, this show is great.

I don't know if you're exclusively asking for recent show but here : "Six feet under" is the best show ever made, "Oz" is really awesome if you don't mind gruesome events every now and then... You should also have a look at "Spaced", a TV show from England with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost ("Shaun of the Dead"). I'm a big fan of "The office" too (UK and US).

More recent stuff : "30 rock" is nice, "The IT crowd" too...

Personnally, i don't use VLC, i think GOM Player is better. But my girlfriend uses a Mac and it seems that the best choice on Mac OSX is VLC.

About the thing i said about subtitles drag n drop : i take it back, i tested VLC 1.0 and it's working now :)

I think it's a shame that you can't drag & drop subtitle files on VLC to open them.

Living Room / Re: Android phone - anyone using it?
« on: May 13, 2009, 07:07 PM »
I just got a HTC G2 and even if i've been using for only a day i can already say it's brilliant :) It comes with Android 1.5 (Cupcake) and its use is really smooth, it's actually over my expectations : it's pretty, smart, fast... And when i think about the fact that Android is going to get bigger and bigger over the next month, my head spins :) For a "young" system, there are already a lot of great (free) applications. Ok i stop there or i think i'm gonna wet myself :)

Damn, looks like i wrote my answer and forgot to post it :)

To answer your question Lanux, i can write accented characters into FARR and my keyboard layout is a french AZERTY.

When i tried using the Twitter alias, something like this happened : i wrote "rédige un Twit accentué" and the result was "a___k r un Twit accentu".

I think the problem might come from curl.exe (i think you use it to send request) because i remember using to update a remote txt file and having accent problems too.

13
Sorry for bringing up this old topic but i also have problems with this. Most of my twits are in french and accented characters (é è ê) don't show up. It's a shame because when i started using Twitter i thought that FARR would be the ideal way of writing new messages :)

Maybe there's an option in curl.exe to use UTF-8 or something ?

I finally decided to use RTM and was hoping to find a FARR plugin for it. I have to say : this is brilliant ! :)

Thanks a lot for the great work.

Maybe Mouser could approach for discount giveaway promotion

They sell keyboards like these on Dealextreme for a little more than $10 :

Finished Programs / Re: SubDude, a subtitle renaming program
« on: March 29, 2009, 12:16 PM »
Hi jonker :)

The problem is that i didn't add support for "101" filenames yet. I suppose it could be easily done, but it seemed tricky to me when i coded SubDude (i had never dealt with regular expressions before). When i face this particular problem, i use a batch renaming program to rename the files first (in this case, i would replace "Series Name 1" with "Series Name 1x"), then i use SubDude.

I'll try to fix this problem soon :)

Thanks Lanux :) I'm glad you found your own way of using SubDude.

I've been thinking about improving SubDude for quite some time now, mainly because sometimes files are named in a way that SubDude can't handle (like : TVShow-Season-Name of the episode-Episode number), but the regular expression give me a headache :) I'm thinking about some kind of "learning mode" so you can indicate where the season and episode numbers are in one file and then the program finds them in the other files (i hope i'm clear). I hope i'll get the time and the courage to work on that some day :)

As a crappy, dilettante coder, to me a code is beautiful when i can look at it after 2 months without saying "What the f*ck is that ?" :)

Ok thanks :)

I don't really like the idea of using a particular program to install and run games but i'll give it a try (after all it's only five dollars).

I am not familiar with Steam : if i buy the game from Steam's webite, does it mean i'll have to install Steam to play the game ? Will i be able to install the game on any of my computers ?
