Found Deals and Discounts / WinSleep 1.1.19.0 lifetime license
« on: August 06, 2016, 04:50 AM »
Haven't come across this utility before, so I thought I'd give it a try. It sounds like a good idea. This software puts your PC to sleep or hibernate provided that certain predetermined conditions are met. The configurable parameters include CPU usage, disk usage, network usage, user idle time. If all of the conditions are met, then you're put to sleep. WinSleep is looking for signs that activity has stopped, or at least fallen below the chosen threshold.

You set up one or more schedules to control when the policy will become enabled. You set trigger conditions for each schedule. WinSleep call these schedules 'sleep policies'.

WinSleep has a simple, graphical interface showing live system information. It also shows a graph displaying historical events e.g. when was WinSleep awake, asleep, when the schedule was active.

When trying WinSleep, I found that the CPU activity generating during the process of going to sleep actually stopped the sleep happening. The CPU threshold was set at 12%. I increased it to 14%, which was enough to allow the sleep to commence. WinSleep talk about this in their help file.

This utility works with Windows 7 and upwards.

You can get a free code for this at http://www.giveaway-club.com/ for another 26 hours or so last time I checked. They say it's a lifetime license.

I'm in a similar situation. Running a business with the office based at home. As I do all of my own paperwork, I'm totally dependent on software solutions to make life bearable.

After searching for a scanning / filing solution, I settled on FileCenter from Lucion Technologies. It seems to work with any scanner. It incorporates a cut down version of PDF-Xchange. It doesn't have all the features of the full PDF-Change Editor (which I've purchased separately), but has more than enough features to process scanned docs, and to make some pdf annotations.

It has excellent indexing and search capability. I don't use naming options, but the capability is there.

What I liked is that the original file structure of you folders remain intact. FileCentre doesn't send your files to a propietry database, which then becomes inaccessible if their company goes bust.

Yes, you purchase this outright. It's not cheap, it's going for $199.00 on their website at the moment. Unfortunately it seems that this price is per computer. The support renewal is optional, but very reasonably priced.

I don't know whether it's the best software of its class, but in the 3 years I've used it, I've never looked back.
