ProcessTamer / new version install
« on: August 29, 2007, 09:14 PM »
To install the new version do i have to uninstall the old version first?

Also, awhile back i had a problem with Process Tamer not running. I since discovered that having the windows service that runs performance counters and logs is necessary for Process Tamer.

ProcessTamer / process tamer now functional
« on: February 10, 2006, 01:56 PM »
I'm not sure exactly what the problem was or exactly what the cure was. I did reinstall my system from a mirror copy and now everything is fine. Thanks for your efforts to help. I would not know what to say to jvaudrey who seemed to be having the same problem as myself. I will provide a textfile attachment of my current services profile if this would of help.

ProcessTamer / Re: Performance Monitor service

the only service that i have stopped that is close to "Performance Monitor" in name is Performance Logs and Alerts Service. i started that one and nothing happened. is there a different name at all for Performance Monitor ?

XPsmoker promotes the eldergeek as reference for Windows services.... http://www.theelderg...m/services_guide.htm

the CPUeater seems to be working

ProcessTamer / garnet back again
« on: January 21, 2006, 10:32 PM »
just installed the newest version of process tamer. i did this to get the upgrades, but also the program indicated that tamer tray was not running. it comes up indicating that it is running (green) and then after a second or two not running (red)
i have recently installed the newest version of xpsmoker and have one of the preconfigured services settings activated which renders down services on my operating system  close to a bare bones set.
is process tamer dependent on any services ?
i don't know if i am on the right track, but this is my best guess.

Thanks for the program, thanks for the forum.
All is well. Installed the program and ran my pc under various normal to extreame loads. I set the high trigger to 50% and the smoothing to...i guess 40%. Set some rules. All programs seemed to run better at the same time.
I want to understand how a processor/operating system allocates tasks and manages its' capacity and what i can do to help this along.

My website is about a year old and will be updated someday soon. http://www.members.shaw.ca/fishpub/

2) get yourself a nice hard disk for video; sata or scsi hd, separate from the operating system hard drive.

With a sata or scsi hd setup, if you go to save a file does the other hd show up in the save/as dialog
box. I've never used such a set up.
Both of your advices make sense. Thanx...
I wonder then if i invest in two extra hd's: one to compile the files and the other to render them too; so that when one is reading the other is writing and all the while the operating system hd is unencumberd. Does this sound plausable?

ProcessTamer / priority settings question 2
« on: October 24, 2005, 12:21 AM »
I have a 1000 mghz amd cpu and 512 meg of ram. I am planning to do video editing. As rendering the movie file takes so much work and time for the cpu, how would i control my processes and have just enough power left to do some word editing or internet browsing?
Could i set all processes to low and have those related to the rendering set to high and still have a stable system?
What settings would be appropriate?
