I've been down this path, and it's frustrating and leads nowhere.

To nowhere - the grivitiniks in default smf format are leading,
in quotes' headers after moving the original posts to other topics
in result of splitting or merging -
without a Freedom of Moving Thoughts embedded feature.

That is what a Frustration for Space Humans,
modifying the quotes code manually over the planet
during years of slow Evolution.. or Degradation.

Please organize your forum members on a campaign
for unlimited own posts editing time on simplemachines forum -

otherwise Humans do experience the predicaments
          in requesting the mods development,

including the Ignore User Button mod
http://www.simplemac...ndex.php?msg=2407112

in part of adding of the option
to Ignore the posts of not ignored members
with the quotes of the ignored members' posts
          and/or just with quotes
with global grivitoutiks in short format.

Thanks for your patience!

Short format is operable in 2.X ( https://www.donation...index.php?msg=387777 ).

Next create the Overground board for public Dialogues
and develop the Global Quoting mod please.

Compare with the positioning behaviour
on a desktop with the windows version
lower than on your Laptop.

No.  I just get the start of the thread.

Are you surely logged in each time you are browsing the forum ?
Are cookies enabled ?
Does the forum remember your identification automatically ?
(A Guest can not enjoy the first unread post facility.)

Here on SMF software
when you click the "new" icon in topic list -
the display of the updated thread is being positioned
with the first unread post at top of the screen
in the list of sequential posts.
Isn't it on your side ?

It occurs to me if you enter "none" it will be accepted.

I have tested such a choice.
It resulted in registration reject.

Can you declare which browser are you using ?

if you lie.

No.
I am Spacely Honest.
Because i'm a Human.

if I wasn't running Windows and the forum was Windows Seven Forums
I would just put Windows 7 for OS.

Show the link to any your own topic there.
(Members list is not accessible for guests.)

You are the one who wants to send the message.

No, i am the one who wish YOU globally quoted my request there
in ~MilesAhead to Admin~ public dialogue topic (gritoadmix).

Please tell Windows 7 Help Forums administrator
to move the OS field
to the "Additional Information (Optional)" section.

If you use Windows 7 I recommend it.

Once a thread is displayed - it has been read.
A button ~View unread post~ can not exist
on the layout with the post "being under reading/having been read".

".new#new" addition to the link
can lead to the first unread post from outside a thread
only once,,
until a thread will be updated again when it is not being viewed.

~A topic you are watching has been split into two or more topics by Stephen66515.~

Thus the outer global links to splitted posts
have become inoperable..
even if they were moved to a Public board.

The better synonym to antonym to the term "Human" ?

Any better suggestions
than i think i have been knowing earlier ?

I would now ask the members of the forum to consider this matter closed.

Then how will the primates learn
~the better way to handle Gri's posts~ -

by Safe Moving of the posts to other separated topics,
including gritoadmixes,
with the topic identificators
differing from the identificators of the original topics
borning the eccentric Messages of the Mind ?
Not of Human Mind only.

In general, the Logical Integrity of a Human posts
                is dependent on monkeys' Stupidity.

And then - where will i be getting the Attention of the primates
which i am fully dependent on ?

also, in case you haven't noticed yet
(or you weren't here when he started posting on DC),
he loves the attention

That's it.

this is on purpose?

To accelerate the Evolution of primates -
place the code of your replies
on the remote forums of the distributed discussions,
but with the quote headers in global format,
for example:

along with the global quoting feature.

Then you will sooner discover the purpose -
Human discussions are possible
on grivitational forums only.

You want even more humor?

I want even more Human.

DC's move thread doesn't break the quotes though

It is because Move Topic does not change the topic id in message link.

Split and Merge topics - do change topic id
and do break grivitoniks, if they were used.

if you move the post that is being quoted,
the link should be broken
(I'm not sure, though).

Should be broken ? Why ?
It should not. But it _is_ being broken, unfortunately.

To check whether the link will be broken
it is enough to substitute the original topic identificator in the link
to another one, any.

In the sample link
https://www.donation....msg290716#msg290716

replace "16974" with, say, ~7104~.

Then on donationcoder.com forum
the changed link will lead to the topic 7104 where the original post is absent.

On grivitational forum such changed link
would still lead to msg=290716
regardless of topic id in the link.

Gri, I would be glad to answer to you,

Do you have your own forum ?

ps.
The donationcoder forum is inappropriate for placing of the posts
because of the several reasons.

One of them is a combination of two circumstances -
the forum software version 1.X being kept by forum administrator
under the refuse of the forum administrator
to install the grivitational mods.

In result, the link of the message in default format
leads to inoperability of the link
after moving of the linked message
from the original topic to another topic.

Version 2.X allows the operability of the short format of the links
by default, which is indifferent to moving of the posts between topics.

The probability of the forum version upgrade
is much higher than of the event of grivitational mods installation.

That's why i am forced to choose the short format of the links
in the headers of the quotes in my posts.
They will become operable automatically after the version upgrade
or after the installation of grivitational mods on 1.X,

but now they are inoperable,
thus producing inconveniences in moving along the vectors
of logical relations between the posts (grivitoniks)
and the members' ~huhs~.

The incoming edge of the mentioned logical vector,
incoming into the post with a quote, -
i named grivitinik.

While there may also exist the outgoing grivitoniks -
grivitoutiks.
When the suggested direction of moving
is from the distributed posts with a quote -
to the original post walking in the Space of Grivitational Universe.

Giampy,
was my reply inappropriate because of your initial restriction:

A question for the managers of the forum.
?

I would prefer to move two messages from a thread to another thread.
Is that operation laborious?

The grivitiniks in the quote header will be destroyed
without ~Freedom of Moving Thoughts~ mod installed.
Informational Integrity is sufferring on the monkey planets.

24
mouser,

which monkey continue removing my topics at donationcoder ?

When I upload using ftp
it uses permisions 755 (owner rwx and group/other are r_x) by default,
which is fine for all folders except the attachments and uploads folders,
which need to be world writable.
-mouser in ~Possibilities of minor turbulence~

Hence, probably, after i will convince you to use Package Manager..
you will not be able to.

Which directories of SMF you name as "uploads folders" ?

Any smf modification may want to upload new files
to any subdirectory of smf forum structure.
Hence Package Manager should have been empowered
to chmod directories to 770 at least.
But it fails on a free hosting.

Particularly, /Package/temp subdirectory is being created
inside the procedure of mod installation.
In result no files can be even extracted
from the mod packet to /temp subdirectory
                              to be executed.

On some hosting servers - Package Manager can chmod the /temp folder
and chmod the Uncompressed files to "770",
but on the other - can not.

What is the difference between hostings ?
Paid and free is one evident difference.

But what is the difference between server settings ?

"755" default permission is not enough for mods installation.

One can chmod /temp folder to "777" manually
and the Package Manager will proceed to..
but it is only the illusion.
The files extracted have mostly "640" permission (rw_ r__ ___ - not executable)
                             or "644"
and are not being executed.

How can a user of the hosting account
change the default folder/files permissions settings of the server ?
-Griflecktion(gri in ~Possibilities of minor turbulence~)

.. so that the newly created folders/files
were already allowed for Writing/Executing accordingly.

Anybody ?
