here you go.
Thanks, works perfectly.

Thanks for the update, phitsc.
Thanks for horizontal resizing. Would it be possible to also add vertical resizing?
I guess it would but obviously only if using FARR with the auto-shrink option disabled. Is that how you're using it?
That would be nice and yes I have the autoshrink option disabled.

Find And Run Robot / Re: slenderFARR - a new skin for FARR
« on: March 29, 2009, 10:02 AM »
@Mouser: The message is a bit misleading. The problem actually is that the skin format exported by VLC Skin Builder 7 is newer than the one supported by FARR. Skins edited with Skin Builder 6 and earlier work without problems with FARR. Updating FARR to the current version of VLCSkin will probably be all you'll have to do.

@Nod5: Strange that you see the scrollbars in slenderFARR. Since I stopped using WindowBlinds and am back to Windows Luna, I always see the standard Luna scroll bars and those don't show the problems you seem to experience.

Please fix this or maybe provide some settings where one can specify that the window should be centered and what size or even better which margins to the sides of the screen it should have. The last one would in fact be much better as FARR would nicely adjust itself to changing screen resolutions.
For centering you could use my FarrMultiMonitor (and center) plugin: https://www.donation....msg117762#msg117762

That wouldn't solve your other problem however...

Thanks for the pointer to the multimonitor plugin. Since I don't use multiple monitors I ignored this plugin. It's centering feature makes FARR's shrinking behavior bearable and the shrinking even seems to stop at some point. Very strange.

Hi Mouser,

I was glad to see
[BugFix] - Changing size of window was sometimes being forgotten on restart.
in the release notes. Unfortunately as of 2.43.01 this still isn't fixed. I like to have my FARR window semi-transparent and to take up nearly all the screen space when it comes up. That really looks cool, but it only looks cool when it is centered on the screen and has the same margin left/right top/bottom.
When I resize it into the right form it works for one or maybe two days and then the window gets smaller from the right and bottom and that looks ugly. I still use FARR because of it's funcionality, but it just looks ugly.

Please fix this or maybe provide some settings where one can specify that the window should be centered and what size or even better which margins to the sides of the screen it should have. The last one would in fact be much better as FARR would nicely adjust itself to changing screen resolutions.

Best regards,
  Robert

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: TodoTXT
« on: April 25, 2008, 11:13 AM »
rbeeger: I have changed it. ;)
BTW: you can easily change & to anything you wish by changing enter = "&"  (3rd line) in fscript.py ;)
Nice. Thanks.
BTW: Why do we need something to simulate ENTER? Why does it not work with ENTER? Somehow FCalc succeeds to stay the context after pressing ENTER. Or are there any other reasons?

8
Yes, with ActiveState Python it also works here.

Hi, I now installed ActiveState Python and now it works. Great.
One suggestion: If I type an & and the action is executed I'd like the prompt to be reset to td. Now I always need to delete the old action to enter a new one.

Cheers,

Hi ecaradec,

As I tried out the todoTXT plugin which is based on Python and FScript, I discovered that it didn't work, it didn't even show up in the plugin list. The page at mvps.org lists the python.org-variant of Python which I have installed and prefer over the ActiveState variant as a valid Windows scripting language.
I don't know anything about how you enable a scripting language in FScript but I suspect that the python and ActiveState variants use different ids or names or something like that and that FScript only checks for the ActiveState ones. Would it be hard to make it configurable what veriant of Python is used or release a version of fscript that uses the python.org variant?

Cheers,
  Robert

Hi czechboy,

The page at mvps.org lists the python.org Python as a valid Windows scripting language.
I suspect that both the python.org and the ActiveState variants use different ids or something like that and that most likely fscript only tries to call the ActiveState one. I'll post a question in the FScript forum about that.

Cheers,

Strange, but it doesn't work with Python from http://www.python.org/. Does anyone have an idea why the ActiveState distribution has to be used? The python.org-version seems to be integrated into Windows quite well. I can run python scripts directly on the command line. I'd prefer to use that version over the ActiveState one.

Find And Run Robot / FARR development in hibernation
« on: March 25, 2008, 02:30 PM »
Looks like development of FARR has spent the last five month in very deep hibernation - no new releases during that time. I wonder if it wakes up with the upcoming spring time?
Well there are no big bugs - at least non that affect my usage of FARR -, but some features and improvements suggested over the last five and more months by different people would be nice.
It would be very sad if FARR died at this stage. It's still called beta, though it feels like production stable most of the time.

Would it be possible to have only the main FARR window skinned? I love the skin, but seeing the rest of the FARR windows skinned (especially when you call Windows "Open" dialog) turns me off.

Glad you like the skin.
There is no way for the skin author to determine what parts of FARR are skinned or not.

@Mouser: Could you add an option to only skin the main window and the menu on the main window with the currently selected skin? Although the options window itself isn't skinned, the Open dialog (used in "Options > Display > Play sound on display") and other windows like "Options > Updates ... > Set Plugin Memo Font" are skinned.

15
Hi Ecaradec,

looks like you are scanning for a fixed set of suffixes (js, rb, vbs, py and pl). So you don't allow for other scripting languages that are integrated into the windows scripting host.
Could you change that and make the plugin try to execute any fscript.* that exists in the same directory the DLL is in.
Or there could be a config file that specifies which script to call.

Cheers,
  Robert

I created a variant that doesn't have a border around the window. I still prefer the original variant, but it wasn't a big problem to modify the skin. So here it is. You'll find it in the first post of this thread.

Unfortunately it isn't possible for a skin to make any of the other adjustments proposed by you.

Cheers,
  Robert

This skin is really slick.

One idea to make it even more minimal: add an option to make the "help" and "options" icons normally invisible but visible when the mouse pointer is held over them.

edit:
It could be even more minimal if there is some way to make the horizontal dividing lines between the input box and the match list and between the match list and status bar invisible. And remove the black border for the FARR window.

It would be really cool if it was possible to through the above and through transparency minimize the GUI so that it on launch only displays a blinking caret somewhere on the screen, waiting for input!  8) BTW, is there some way to make the caret itself more bold? I have set "Arial bold 14" for the input box and the caret looks a bit to thin in comparison to the typed characters.

17
I made a version that tell FARR to not launch url :
http://e.craft.free....elicious.1.00.04.rar
The archive seems to be corrupted. It's also much bigger than the previous ones (451 KB instead of  94KB)

18
Another strange thing: When I close one of the two Firefox windows opened by the plugin, Firefox doesn't react on anything typed into the address bar. Only links on the opened page are working then. Very strange. Somehow this opening of two Firefox windows by the plugin makes them dependent upon each other.

19
Somehow the delicious plugin always opens a selected bookmark twice. When no Firefox is running, two Firefox windows are opened with the same URL. When there already is a Firefox instance running, two tabs are opened with the same URL.

20
The delicious plugin is now really perfect, awesome etc. Thanks for making it.
It's a lot faster than using the Firefox "Delicious bookmarks" extension for looking up bookmarks.

One concern I have is that the password has to be inserted as unencrypted text.
It would be cool if the plugin could ask for a username and password at the first time of invocation and use the cookie provided by del.icio.us afterwards. Hmm, if it is impossible to open some input dialog from a FScript dialog, it could read in a file and delete it after acquiring the cookie.

21
it will never be able to search all delicious bookmarks of an account
Yes you are right. Only the last links are in the rss feed. The del.icio.us plugin does not allow to search all the archived link. Del.icio.us has an export fonctionnality that I may be able to use, but it is html and I would have to parse it with regex and combine that with the last results from rss.
I really wanted to get fscript out. Del.icio.us plugin was really meant as a sample for it.
I didn't mean to criticize your del.icio.us plugin. I realized that it was only a simple example for your SDK, which is by itself a great thing. And I think that an advanced del.icio.us plugin could be written with JavaScript and FScript. So it's all more praise for FScript than criticism for the del.icio.us example.

BTW: I'd be interested in a real del.icio.us plugin written in JavaScript, C or what ever. So if there are any plugin developers out there looking for new challenges, this would be one ;)

would it be possible to create a version of it that would work with any scripting language that integrates with it (Ruby, Perl, Groovy etc.)?
Yes I could, but I don't know if its a good idea since ruby, perl, etc... are not installed by default with Windows and plugins would require installing another language to run. But its easy to do.
That's correct. Plugins would be created that would require additional software to be installed. But I don't think that's really a problem. As a user you could choose the language you like for developing plugins. So it would be possible for many more people to write specialized plugins. FARR would become really customizable. I think many  Ruby and Groovy people would try FARR if they could script it with their language of choice.
Developers who want their plugins used by as many users as possible would still choose one of the languages available on a default installation of Windows. Those other potential plugin writers will probably never write a plugin in C, C# or JavaScript.

22
Hi,

The delicious plugin only checks only the rss feed. So although with a small modification of the script (Just change deliciousurl at the top of it) it can be made to check the feed of a personal delicious account, it will never be able to search all delicious bookmarks of an account.
But anyways, this simple example shows what can be done with the SDK and it should be possible to create a better delicious plugin with it. Thanks to ecaradec for creating it.

Questions: If FScript is based on the Windows Script Control Host, would it be possible to create a version of it that would work with any scripting language that integrates with it (Ruby, Perl, Groovy etc.)?

Cheers,
  Robert

Find And Run Robot / Re: Using FARR on a computer of a customer

I didn't realize there was an anonymous non-donator license type.
Thanks to scancode for mentioning it.
That looks like a usable solution.

Find And Run Robot / Using FARR on a computer of a customer
« on: December 20, 2007, 12:46 PM »
Hi,

I'm a software developer and currently I develop software on site in an office of the customer. I use a computer provided by the customer. I am allowed to install free and open source software that I feel helps me get my work done.
Now I'm in some kind of dilemma. I'm using FARR on my notebook and my home office computer and would like to install it on the computer at the customer's office. I won't install my own DonationCoder Life time license on it, since it would look strange on that computer to use my private license.
How often will FARR nag me, if I install it without a license. Once a day would be acceptable, but if it nags more often, I'll probably have to consider other alternatives without such licensing restrictions.

@Mouser: Does this restriction really pay off? I think it will prevent quite a few people from using FARR and those other alternatives that aren't as good as FARR will get them as users.

Cheers,
  Robert

looks like it might be a skin issue..
one solution is to go to FARR options, and switch to "Plugins, Updates, Fonts" tab, and check the "Override default font settings" and put in custom values for result height, etc.

Strange. I've never had such problems with slenderFARR myself. From the screenshot it looks like CWuestefeld is somehow using a bold font. I surmise that the same problem will appear with any other skin.

@CWuestefeld: Could you check whether this problems also appears with other skins or only with slenderFARR?

AFAIK VCL Skin SkinBuilder doesn't provide the possibility to specify the row height of a table.
