Found Deals and Discounts / Re: 75 MyFonts 90% off: $49 until Dec 11
« on: December 08, 2015, 04:02 PM »
This is a great deal, I especially recommend Ayita Pro which is my go-to font for spreadsheets (ttf version).

A lot of great fonts in here: Charter ITC, DIN Next, Trade Gothic, to name a few.

The desktop versions are all OTF. The Webfont package at the same price includes WOFF,EOT,TTF,SVG, but not OTF.
I have personally found that TTF versions look better on Windows systems, but do not often have all the bells and whistles a OTF versions do. So choose accordingly.

Been using it for years. Fairly light footprint.
They issue an update about every 12 months. I always wait for deals to pick up newer versions around $10.

As others have noted Nero is just bloated and hard to get around unless you use it every day.
Does what it says. I recommend it highly.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: 24-Hours Giveaway - VX Search Pro
« on: October 26, 2011, 09:53 AM »
App seems to work great, but it does have one annoying downside.

If you're like me you would prefer that installers DO NOT put entries into the context menu without your approval.
What's even worse is NOT ALLOWING the user to turn off the context menu entries. . .

Buyer beware VX Search Pro inserts a context menu entry in several places.

Bitsdujour has a pretty good deal for Malwarebytes Pro for $14.95.

BitsduJour Malwarebytes Deal

The big difference from the free is IP scanning & realtime protection (which you can turn off, ifyou think it takes too much cpu.).

The download links for the software OSS*.exe do no work.

I've downloaded from the main site. . .but have not installed yet.

The two features that stand out are 1) the hex editor and the 2) templates.

I work with barcode (1D & 2D) and I use it to check out field separators sent in an ANSI defined 2D barcode spec. The Hex option makes it easy to 'debug' text strings parsed from the barcode.

Also, anyone working with driving, say printers, or other devices that require specific control characters, the hex mode option is really useful.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Basic Directory Search
« on: June 08, 2010, 04:45 PM »
Thanks for the quick response.

All the items you listed, were already as you suggested. . .

All I've done is just add directories, I'm not very fancy right now. . .no modifier keywords, no exclusions etc. . . I'm, thinking of just re-installing & starting from scratch.

Find And Run Robot / Basic Directory Search
« on: June 08, 2010, 04:22 PM »
Hey guys. . .I've tried going through the help file, maybe you can help me with this (probably) dumb question.

Background: I moved several directories I had to a portable drive from a hard drive on my laptop.
I then had to change, ie. add the new search directory to the FARR Search folders list.

For some reason, I can not get FARR to find documents or other items in the (new) directories on the portable drive.

Under Options
In the Search folders list I have F:\Doc*
(I have F:\Documents, F:\Documentation, F:\Documentation-Lic all with sub-directories that I want searched).

I type something like 'font purchases' (there is a Font Purchases.xlsx file) and I get NO HITS. . . I'm just frustrated as heck. . .this was a really useful function and I can't seem to figure it out. If I can't get it to work, I'm just going to stop running FARR.

Search Behavior has the following checked.

x Stop search on Regex aliais match

x remove missing items from alias history
x remove duplicate links .....

x Score non-contiguous matches .....
x Disable Non-contiguous matching .....

I'm running V 2.87.03. ..

I'm sure it's some easy thing to fix, I just can't seem to find it in the documentation or looking around. It all worked fine until I created the new directories.

Thanks in advance.

General Software Discussion / Re: What is your preferred font?
« on: September 27, 2009, 04:20 PM »
For spreadsheet work and also for general desktop (for WinXP), I really love Ayita, from Ascender.

http://www.ascenderf.../search.aspx?q=ayita

Their Droid fonts, Droid Sans, Droid Serif, Droid Sans Mono, are also available in the Google Android development kit (free) and are great subs for any of the web browsing fonts.

You can also purchase commercial versions.

General Software Discussion / JetStart Launcher

Just ran across this on one of the places I track.

JetStart has both a freeware and Pro version. Looks like an excellent program to help handle your Start Menu becoming unmanageable.

Anyone have any experience with it?

I've been thinking of a similar app for quite a while.

The best I've been able to come up with is some sort of wiki; running either on a small server behind a firewall on your home network or as a personal wiki on your local machine.

I think a wiki 'add-on' to do the other functionality you want might work.

Thank you MusicIP and cthorpe too!  Look forward to using this software.
