General Software Discussion / Re: GemX - missing in action

Wow - six years since my last post here and the software has been through (at least) two new developers and two name changes. As I noted in 2010, I've long since lost interest in the software, but I wish the developer luck.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Macrium Reflect 6 News
« on: April 17, 2015, 11:34 AM »
I've been dithering about upgrading since January. I have two Pro licenses for version 5.x and am debating whether or not the upgrade is worth it? The few reviews that I've read on line seem to imply that there isn't much to be gained from upgrading 5->6 beyond faster startup times. Can anyone who's tried both comment?

Enquiring minds want to know. I want to know.

Agreed - I have really fond memories of X1 from 2001 through about 2008/9, at which point I began searching for alternatives. Every so often, I give the latest version a whirl, most recently this past fall (October? November?). I still find it quite slow and that it has a noticeable impact on my computer (i7 notebook with 4GB dedicated video memory and 32GB RAM running two SSD drives). Thus, it never lasts long... I use the built in Windows Search for just about everything and have dtSearch installed and updated for more complex searches. Like Armando, I have a license for Archivarius but find that I don't need it with dtSearch installed. I settled on dtSearch for my own use because as much as I love Archivarius I find that it's index get larger and larger over time. Haven't had it installed in a couple of years, though, might be time to revisit it. dtSearch has better previewers as well (or did; don't know about today).

Just FYI - the "Go Pro" link is dead. Clicking on the "Free Download" link gets you winamp566_full_en-us.exe...

+1 to Carol's points and to Superboyac's note, too. I'm in exactly the same boat. I purchased lifetime licenses years ago in good faith and was not given any warning that they were revoking them back in 2008 or so. In fact, I purchased a license for another of their products right around the time of the changeover under the assumption (yes, I know ass-u-me, etc.) that I was buying a lifetime license when in fact they had already changed to the then new model (what enraged users, myself included, was that for months after they changed licensing models there was no banner or indication on their website that this was so. Anyway, after a lot of going back and forth, they honoured my lifetime licenses but every time there was an upgrade it was up to me to write to them and remind them that I needed a new license. Anyway... the only really useful products in their catalogue (for me) are Photo Collector and mp3/music Collector (I also own a license for Book Collector), titles that have been dormant for years and I've long since given up using them. Flash forward to my reading the first post this thread and if feels like deja vu all over again...
