Messed up once again.  Ugh :(

This is the correct screen shot for the trim after "N" example.

Working though not as I expected. Here is an example with a typical clip that I'm capturing. Notice that the clip is multi-lined, separated by linebreak character "\n".

image002.jpg

It appears that the trimming is acting separately on each line within the clip.

In this example I specified stripping everything  after the character "N". The result I was expecting was for the resultant clip to be one character, the first "N". Instead you'll see it stripped everything after the "N" on the first line as well as the second line.  BTW it is also case sensitive.

[attach-2]

In this case I wanted to trim everything after the first line in the clip. However it doesn't appear that the trim function recognizes the character "\n".

image006.jpg

Perhaps I'd better off with a script to accomplish the trimming?

Can't figure out how to do it with search and replace. Here is what I'm trying to accomplish. I have multi-line text clips. I want to trash all text after the first \n.

Would it be possible to add a new method for trimming? What I'm looking for is the ability to trim all text either preceding or following a designated string. Thanks for considering.

Alpha tester Mark reporting on the latest version...

Good news! Looking good!! Just went through my series of test cases. No errors. No unexpected behavior. Will continue to exercise it over the weekend and report back. Hope it works as well for spknapp.  Here's my stats page...

Downloaded the latest alpha version per your 6:20PM post.  Just ran through a quick sequence of capturing clips. No problems. Dragged and dropped clips between folders in the tree. No problems at first. However after clicking around a half dozen or so times on different folders in the tree I began getting multiple access exceptions. Once they were all dismissed I was unable to switch to a different folder. Exited and restarted CHS. Was able to recreate the same problem. Exited and restarted CHS again. This time the grid window looked like this...

image002.jpg

Just had to try it one more time...restarted CHS the grid window looked as I expected it to...

Going to call it a night. Will be out of pocket until Saturday afternoon. But will be glad to continue to test.

Worked through a series of new clips from MegaStar. Manipulated within the grid and tree structure. Printed clips and exported clips successfully. No errors. Closed CHS and restarted it. Captured more clips and did more manipulation. No errors. Will run through some more sequences over the weekend and will let you know if I run into any issues.

Switched back to database temp directory as you suggested. CHS started up without error. First clip okay. Grid looks as expected. Moved clip between folders. No problems. On second clip however got this error...

Dismissed this error and took another clip - successfully.  Go figure.

Uninstalled and deleted the old database. Installed the latest alpha,  2.09.02, and getting the same errors as spknapp.

On startup....

image002.jpg

After a ctrl-c...

image004.jpg

The errors dismiss and CHS continues to run. The grid doesn't look as I expect it to look and none of the grid presets are showing in the pulldown....

The good news is that it started off well.  Deleted the current database. Did a clean install of this morning's alpha version. Verified the integrity of the empty database. Ran it through my predominant usage with the program MegaStar. Captured clips from other programs. From the grid moved clips in and out of other folders including the recycle bin. All okay, no problems, no errors. Then I ran the verify/repair database function. Got this error:

stats.jpg

Then tried to exit from CHS by right-clicking and selecting exit. Got this error:

After which CHS was still running but not responsive to any mouse clicks. Had to kill it with task manager.

Okay. Worked much better once I restarted CHS and was pointed to the system temp directory. Was able to do a bunch of captures without problem. Then went into the grid and did a ctrl-A to select all and dragged to the recycle bin in the left pane. That caused this error. I had to kill CHS to get out of the loop.

Whoops again! Sorry but I'm rushing through this and just noticed that after I changed the temp directory to the system temp directory I didn't restart CHS. So ignore my last two posts. I'll go through my test sequence again and report back.

Just downloaded and tried your latest alpha using the system directory tweak. Didn't get any errors while working in the grid. However whenever I try to capture something in the clipboard I now get the following error.

Was capturing a few more clips. Then I clicked on a clip in the grid captured earlier today I got the following error.

Error DB44: DBISAM Engine Error #10258 Cannot lock record in the table 'Clip Table'

Tried the newest alpha version. Since there were no clips that I had to retain I deleted all the files in the database folder before reinstalling. Also added the database temp folder as an exclusion in my antivirus software per your suggestion. Installed and started up without incident. Went through a quick sequence of copy operations for how I am using CHS. So far so good - no DBISAM errors! Will be working with it some more over the next few hours and will let you know if I encounter any issues.

No, I'm not running Microsoft Security Essentials. Would the data from the access violation that loops following one or more DBISAM errors be of value to you?

Hi. Unbelievably I've run into almost the same series of DBISAM errors as spknapp has reported. CHS 2.6.1 had been running fine for me until today. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit with AVAST anti-virus. No known changes to my configuration other than an regular anti-virus signature update. I've followed most of the recommendations you suggested to spknapp. Uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller to be sure everything was cleared out. Double checked to be sure all the relevant directories were deleted. Then reinstalled with 2.09.01. Encountered more DBISAM errors right away and then CHS went into an address exception loop requiring me to terminate it with Task Manager.

The database does not appear in the folder C:\Program File\Clipboard Help+Spell\Database. Where is it? Everything I did to assure it was deleted didn't work because it is still showing the clips I've taken and not deleted.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Need Help Understanding CHS Behavior

And can you verify in another image program that even though CHS is ignoring every other capture -- that your megastar program is actually copying every image to the clipboard?

Went through the test cases you suggested. Problem solved - kinda. It isn't with CHS.  :)  I went through a sequence of "copy-to-clipboard" menu tasks in MegaStar without CHS loaded. After each copy I pasted the clipboard contents into a Word document. Guess what? The clipboard is consistently empty on the odd number captures. Mostly likely a MegaStar bug. Thanks for your suggestions which helped me isolate the source of the problem.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Need Help Understanding CHS Behavior
« on: October 04, 2011, 02:55 PM »
I recently stumbled on CHS while searching for a method to log a date/time stamp for clipboard captures. CHS seems to be ideal for my needs however in testing it I'm experiencing behavior that I don't understand. Being a CHS newbie I'm guessing it is either a key principle I don't understand or some setting that needs adjusted.

I'm using a purchased program called MegaStar. The program presents a graphical display that is a star map. When you left click on an object a window pops up containing data about that object. With the data window in focus when you right click you get a context menu that includes an task to copy-to-clipboard which captures the object data in the window to the clipboard. Note that you are not able to select the text in this window and copy it with a control-c. The program intercepts a control-c and to capture a printable version of the graphic window.

With that background here is the behavior I'm experiencing consistently with CHS and its default settings. CHS seems to log only the odd number captures (that is selecting the menu option on the object data box to copy to clipboard). So the first, third, fifth copies are logged, but not the second and fourth. I thought it coulb be a timing issue but the behavior is the same whether the subsequent copy-to-clipboard is seconds after the previous one or minutes.

Hopefully I've explained the problem well enough so that someone will be able to provide some suggestions. I recall there being one or more timing settings for CHS but I'm not entirely clear on their purpose. BTW, I've tried this on both XP SP2 and Win7 Ultimate with the same results.
