Official Announcements / Re: NANY 2017 Wrap-Up
« on: January 11, 2017, 07:20 AM »
Congratulations and many many thanks to everyone who participated in this NANY! ;D

I don't think there is anything I really need right now but there are some interesting entries for sure. (though I should lose some weight)
There are some I should keep in mind ;)

I just want to say I appreciate each and every one of you. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone :)
I tried Splat but it doesn't seem to work for me. I'll get it to work sometime. I got it to work now. Don't save it in Program Files.
Reported my problems here.

Cool, thanks app103. I'll try it out and let you know how it goes!

I don't seem to be sold on TaskLayout. I prefer these NANY entries.

Skwire, you're a hero!
This is exactly what I was looking for.
Down to the pre and post game settings and all!

Edit: Solved!
Spoiler
One problem though. My profiles and actions don't seem to be saved at all. Is there a savebutton I am missing?
I assumed it would save automatically.
Profiles stay until I close Splat but the actions within them get reset even when I select a different profile.
Actions also get reset when right clicking the profile.

I just tried actually running a profile and it doesn't seem to start anything.
The log says "Launching profile: Work     Profile launch complete: Work".
I dropped a lnk from my desktop onto the action part. It got correctly filled in but doesn't do anything when running the profile.
I tried running both with the button on top, the keyboard shortcut and with rightclick > Launch profile (which removes the action field).

I am running on a Windows 7 Dell Latitude E6540 from work.
Could I have something that prevents splat from running?
Or am I just missing a step in creating and running profiles.

I had to save it outside of program files. Works perfectly fine!

Suggestion:
It would be nice if the columns automatically resize to take the space available. It's kind of silly to see only the first few letters of the action on the selected profile following by a lot of space.
Nothing too important but it's a nice to have ;D

Thanks for your hard work and I look forward to actually using it! using it right now!  ;D

Oh wow, that's exactly what I wanted!
Maybe I saw it and subconsciously remembered there was something like that here. Thanks for the fast reply!
Other options are still welcome :D
I'll definitely try this out tomorrow!

I always plan on joining NANY but never end up making something :(
Oh well, someday I'll get one of those mugs  :P

General Software Discussion / Program to open groups of programs.
« on: February 05, 2015, 02:12 PM »
I was wondering if there is some kind of program I can easily start a bunch of other programs with that I generally need at the same time.
Say for example when I'm doing android development. I want Android Studio to start, I want my genymotion emulator to start and I want XChat to start since that automaticaly connects me to an android chatroom.
Then when I don't need those anymore it would be cool if I could close them together also (optional).
After that I will probably want to play a game so it should start Steam and whatever else I configured.
Or when I arrive at work it should start all workspecific applications I configured + everything that's in the android development group. So basically nested grouping.

I guess I could easily make some autohotkey scripts for those (assuming AHK can detect if a program is already launched) but was wondering if there are already streamlined applications available  :)

What do you do in situations where you have to open multiple programs together?

Developer's Corner / Re: Android package name

Thanks for all the fast replies!

Ewemoa, yeah I saw that thread. Thought I'd ask again here to see what DC members specifically think ;D

mwb1100, I could use my gmail address but that one is rarely used. My main address contains dashes and underscores.

Ath, I like that suggestion. What do you mean with apptype though? game/utility? I could put NANY in it so if I have any future entries, they can sit right in the same structure  ;D

I've been busy today so haven't really started yet. I'll do that one of these days. Thanks for all the replies!

Developer's Corner / Android package name
« on: October 03, 2013, 04:52 PM »
I'd like to finally contribute to NANY this year and am thinking of making a simple android app...or two.
I know some java but don't know much about android yet.

Before starting my app, I need to give it a package name.
Which, if uploaded on google play, must be a unique identifier.
Android package names follow the Java package name convention. Usually this is the reverse domain name for the app. Default it is com.example.appname.
I've also seen e-mail adresses being used like com.domain.name.appname.
I'm not planning to get a domain for my apps and don't like to use my email address.
It's just a convention and I believe anything works as long as it is unique and follows the rules(about hyphens and caps and all) but I'd like to use a good convention that I can use in the future.

Currently I have: miva2.apps.appname
with "miva2.apps." litterally and "appname" replaced by the actual app name ofcourse.

Is this good? Any suggestions? Any things I need to know about package names?
I'd just like to know the opinion of people here :) Good luck to other NANY contestants!

The Researcher:

I am really motivated to do this thing. It is the awesomest thing ever! But first I will have to read these 30+ articles/tutorials before I start doing anything.

^That's me
There's some Sidetracker and Perpetuator in me too :D

Hello Donation Coders!
I've always wanted to participate in NANY and now that I quit school and have more time for personal projects, I believe the time has come ;D

I think I'm going to make an android app (mainly for myself) that disables the LED light on my phone at night (it is annoying when I charge it close to my bed at night). I'll look into making an official entry some other time.

Hope to see many cool things again this year!
Good luck everyone

another one: Writing a long, well-structured, relevant post and then deciding not to post it.

Good I don't do most of them :D
Rebooting (or shutting down completely) my laptop more often is something I should remember. Too often I just let it in sleep mode while plugged in. (even up to a week!)

Thanks for the suggestions!
i'll try them now! I've been busy the past week, no time to check DC :-[

Edit: I've chosen to use Mat. Thanks Skwire!
It does perfectly what I want it to do and now i've finally found a use for batchfiles, something i've wanted to be looking into.

The AHK script looks useful too but I have to start it before i'm able to use the shortcut and then it keeps running in my system tray?
I already have enough programs running simultaneously and don't need even more unnecessary icons in my tray :/
Thanks for the tip though.
AutoIt looks kind of similar to AHK from what I've seen. Right?
AHK and AutoIt are things to look into later.

Just one issue with Mat:
I wrote this small batchfile
C:\Users\Michael\Documents\MouseAccelToggler\MouseAccelToggler.exe cursor="C:\Windows\Cursors\aero_arrow_xl.cur"
It works perfectly but when I execute it I get an error message saying "Invalid parameter passed" and then it lists the valid parameters.(using Vista 32 bit)
I don't see any mistake in the parameter and it works perfectly.

also, I've wrote a second command with a different cursor, to change back.
Can I write both commands in one file and make it use the correct command, depending on my current cursor? so, like this:
If(currentCursor == yellowCursor)
setCursor(whiteCursor)
else if (currentCursor == whiteCursor)
setCursor(yellowCursor)

Well, it gets the point across. Is there some kind of getCurrentCursor() method or some other way?
That's something I'll look into another day...

Besides those 2 little details, my problem is solved :)
Thanks again MilesAhead, Ath and skwire.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: change cursor depending on program
« on: February 28, 2012, 02:50 PM »
I haven't done much in this area. But it's my impression the application that owns the window under the mouse can capture the mouse and control the cursor. You may find it simpler to substitute custom cursors for the standard Windows ones.

Something like this may work:

http://www.softpedia...imated-Cursors.shtml

Unfortunately, that is not really what I am looking for but thank you for your input.
I'm currently using a standard windows yellow cursor and i think the default white one will do the job well for me. I just need to find a way to quickly change it, whenever I see fit. Without needing to go through all the menus.

Post New Requests Here / IDEA: change cursor depending on program
« on: February 26, 2012, 08:49 AM »
Hello everyone, i would like my cursor to change depending on the program I'm using.

For me personally: I was playing Realm of the Mad God and noticed my cursor is not very visible in the game. So i want to have a different cursor when I am playing that game and go back to my old cursor when I quit playing (or when i alt+tab to a browser for example)
Or is it possible to make a small batchfile that changes my cursor to a predefined cursor and when i execute it again it goes back to my previous one?
I have never really looked in the power of batchfiles so I don't know if that is possible.

I'm sorry i didn't research in too much detail. I searched for "cursor" and found some interesting things but not exactly what I was looking for. My apologies If i missed the answer.

Also, Thank you very much to all programmers who make free software. Very much appreciated

Looks interesting!
Might be useful for someone like me who has a BAD memory :P

i'll try it out when i get my new phone!

I really like looking around here and checking out the newest programs.
Good luck to all participants and thanks to mouser, Perry Mowbray and everyone else for making this possible.
I've shown this to some fellow programmers, hopefully they'll put something cool up :) if not this year, then next year.
Unfortunately I've not found the time (and necessary skills) to make a usable program. Reading this makes me want to work harder :)
