How do you extract the ScreenshotCaptorSetup.exe file without installing? Use a product like 7-zip?

Very cool ... I also was recently searching for a portable capture tool to run on a corporate Domain computer and it did not occur to me that SC was already a Portable App that could be installed/run from a USB flash drive and therefore not requiring Administrator privilege on the computer.

Perhaps SC should be actively promoted on the Portable App sites?

Thanks ... Charles

Cool ... did not realize you could rename a file by chaning the text in the name field and pressing enter.

Ok ... so far so good.

Noticed that Screenshot Captor (and other capture tools) can not get transparent Aero border.

The pause and shoot nature of Snipping Tool does capture the transparent Aero border.

Just installed 64-bit Windows 7 Beta in dual-boot configuration ( with Windows XP Pro SP 3 ) and it looks really good.

Installation ( new ) was fast; startups and shutdowns are quick ( seem that way at least ); GUI is pretty, intelligent and snappy ( especially when optimized ).

Any issues with Screenshot Captor ( SC ) running on 64-bit Vista ( or 64-bit Windows 7 )?

Thanks again for SC.

PS Noticed that the  insert weblink feature on this forum does not work with Explorer 8 on Windows 7? Spell-check pop-up does work ... Internet Explorer 8 issues I am sure.

Hi mouser ... you are welcome to use the screencast as you see fit.

Below is a link to a "better" screencast that demonstrates the entire process. You are welcome to download this Flash .swf file to your local server ( just in case my hosting service changes in the future ).

I should mention that Rightload can upload multiple files at once to an FTP site and provides the user graceful options for handling duplicate files.

1) Control click multiple thumbnails from the Screenshot Captor ( SC ) image/file browser panel
2) Right click the selection
3) Use the "Upload with Rightload" option to select the FTP destination site ( or queue )

the selection to the queue before making an FTP destination selection

PS In this multi-file upload scenario, Rightload copies multiple upload paths ( URLs ) to the clipboard.

Yes ... Rightload does copy the upload path ( URL ) to the clipboard after the upload is complete. The other nice feature is that Rightload can be configured for multiple FTP sites. Just right click a thumbnail in the SC browser panel, select one of the destination FTP sites that you have configured and you are good to go!!!

Hi ... nice script programming.

Rightload (mentioned on this forum previously) is what I use. It allows uploading to ftp servers ( to a fixed or custom directory ) by right clicking on any image thumbnail listed in the SC file directory left-hand panel and copies the URL link to the clipboard.

I also like the way Red-box Capture Mode for regions remembers the location and size of the last capture region ... again, very cool and these options were always present. Thanks ... Charles

Is it possible to resize  and/or move the selected capture region ( dynamically defined or fixed region ) in SC prior to the capture being made?

Thanks ... Charles

Why is it necessary to disable overlays {Options > Performance > Video accleration : Advanced > DVD Video [ ]Use Overlays } in Windows Media Player 11 (Windows XP SP2) before SSC is able to create a snapshot of the video?

A brief tutorial here or a link to such a tutorial on how overlays relate to SSC and other capture program work would be great.

Thanks ... Charles

Hi ... these are great ideas : how about an option during install (and/or inside the SSC main window) to create a shortcut to the Screenshot Captor save folder on the Desktop ... perhaps this option could be added to the current install panel that ask about creating a shortcut to the SSC application on the desktop.

ShortCutToSaveFolderOnDesktop.png

PS I would like to recommend SSC to my non-technical friends  : how about an option  [available on the right click menu of the system tray icon ] to load a partial or complete list of setting from a text file.  It is wonderful the way SSC can be finely tuned but my non-technical friends have difficulty navigating and configuring all the options in all of the panels - especially the templates panel for automatic file naming.

Thanks for a great product ... Charles

Finally got around to reading the help file and playing with MiniCap.

I wrote a little batch file to have MiniCap capture a specific window to the same save directory as Screenshot Captor & then exit.

The result if successful, is that I will use MiniCap.exe to auto-capture a specific window when that window changes and can then use Screenshot Captor to review/edit all of the captures.

I am now exploring how to use the "eventtriggers" feature ( eventtriggers.exe - http://technet.micro...ibrary/bb490901.aspx ) built into Windows XP and Windows 2003 server to  trigger MiniCap.exe ( in a MyMiniCap.bat file ) based upon a specific event(s) that occurs in the Windows event log(s).

The combination of all of this should allow me to create a neat little automatic way to capture a specific window each time that window is updated or changed.

MyMiniCap.bat file :

"\Program Files\MiniCap\MiniCap.exe" -captureappbyname "BloodPressure-VitalSigns-Display.exe" -customdate "$Y$m$d-$H$M-0$S" -save "\Program Files\ScreenshotCaptor\Screenshots\Screenshot-$customdate$.png" -exit

Still working on creating the onetime  eventtriggers.exe command that will create the process that monitors the event log(s) and then triggers MyMiniCap.bat file to run but it should look something like this:

eventtriggers.exe /create /tr MyMiniCapTrigger /I application /eid xxxxx /tk "\Program Files\MiniCap\MyMiniCap.bat"

Screenshot Captor / Re: Auto-capture in certain interval of time
« on: March 19, 2008, 02:21 AM »
I have been using SC for years and  never noticed the [Engage Auto-Capture Timer] option located on the Right-Click menu of  the SC tray icon ... probably because I never needed to create serial captures.

Thanks again for a great product ... Charles

No need to add screencast recording to this wonderful product ... no need to compete with the high end screen recorders like Camtasia (which cost $300) and there are lots of free and inexpensive tools that do screen recording on the cheap and  low end of the market. Screenshot Captor should continue  to be quick and responsive with as small of a memory and resource footprint as possible.

Feature ideas & enchancements

1) add save options of  single/multi-page PDF and multi-page TIFF
2) add MiniCap functionality to trigger a running ScreenshotCaptor to silently capture a specific  area, window or screen or entire workspace from the command-line in a .bat file
3) better callouts
4) better rubberstamp tool

Thanks again for a great product.

PS I ran a 2 week demo of the latest version of Snagit (8.2.3) and the only features I really thought were outstanding are its vector based callouts & rubberstamp features.

Example of window I would like to auto-capture on change/update is below ... small window filled with various types/sizes of text boxes that all update together every 2 or 3 minutes.
