This one is a little different. It's the view out the front of our motorhome.  While we are at home, it's a static view of the end of our driveway, but when we are on the road, it updates every 30 minutes of daylight time in Australia & uploads via a Broadband Wireless gateway.

COBOL. Yeah!  And Pascal, Fortran, Snobol, punched cards & 11x15 inch fanfold paper!  I now have more processing power in my laptop then the entire Computer Centre had back then. And my file server has more grunt than what they took to the moon.

BTW, if you had shown Neil Armstrong a digital watch back then, he wouldn't have known what it was or how it worked.

Thought you might enjoy this too. Just out the back of where I work.

BTW, for those of you in the USA, you'll be pleased to hear that the sun came up tomorrow.

Living Room / Errors installing XP Home Edition.

I have actually solved this one, but I thought I'd share the drama anyway. Might even help someone else too.

A friend's laptop was producing some very obscure errors.  After a bit of stuffing around, I decided to re-install Windows. Dug out my generic OEM XP Home CD & forged ahead. As has happened to me on previous occasions, the install process would randomly report that it couldn't copy a file. The end result was that the install was corrupted & wouldn't behave. For example, it wanted to be authenticated before I could even log in & it had skipped the bit where I could nominate the login name(s).

Then I noticed a post in one of the many forums that often bad RAM can make other components appear to be corrupted. Swapped out all but one RAM stick & suddenly, everything started installing & working as it should.

Wish I'd though of that in the first place, as I had only just put new RAM in that machine.

No-one has suggested WordPress yet?  You have the languages as categories & publish each static "article" once in each category.  I ran up a sample site for a friend recently in a few hours using the Atahualpa theme & fell in love with it, once you get used how it works, it's so easy to customise & is fully variable width.

Your solution doesn't have to be complicated.  And it can be free, except for the hosting.  And you should be able to do it yourself.

And from South Australia too!  The rest of you would have no idea how important that is!

I was born there myself.   :D   And welcome.

Now if I could just throw in AFL (Australian Rules Football), Rugby Union, Rugby League. American Gridiron, 7-a-side Soccer, 3x3 Junior Soccer & the funny one that Australia plays against Ireland every year, called International Football, we'd have a REAL discussion.  Heh heh.

Thanks, guys.  Great to be appreciated.  Enjoying the summer here while it lasts.

I've been around computers for over 30 years.

About to launch an IT Service (mostly PC repairs) to the vast Outback area of Australia, on a “we come to you, wherever you are” basis.

In terms of scale, imagine an area covering all of the US states north & west of Memphis, mostly desert ranging up into wet tropics, sparsely populated. Or most of mainland Europe up to & including Poland & Bosnia. That’s our territory!

Here's the website.
