I would like to take this opportunity to clean up some misunderstandings about how SoftMaker's prices are calculated.

FlexiPDF 2017 costs either EUR 79.95 or US$ 79.95.

If you are a customer in the U.S., you pay US$ 79.95. We pay our income tax on that, and that's it. In Canada, same thing, with the price dynamically converted to Canadian Dollars.

If you are in the European Union, things become much more difficult for us. The EUR 79.95 we charge to European customers contain value-added tax. If you live in Germany, we pay 19% of that EUR 79.95 to the German tax offices, if you are in the UK, we pay 20% to the UK revenue service etc. We have to declare value-added taxes in every single member country of the European Union.

So, if you as a UK customer paid us EUR 79.95 (our shop converts it dynamically, to the minute, to GBP), more than 13 euros goes straight back to your own revenue service. Our income on that purchase is around EUR 66.50. And this LESS than what we earn from a U.S. customer, for whom we don't have to pay VAT.

Now before American customers complain that THEY have to pay more, please consider that currency exchange rates fluctuate, and we can't adjust prices every day.

If you don't like the EU VAT regime, we are the wrong place to complain about.

The enhancements we have developed so far are all in add-ons. This lets our users enable them selectively, and it ensures that updates for the unchanged Thunderbird still flow in from Mozilla.

If the Thunderbird developers want these enhancements, they can have them for their core code. They just need to ask.

The developer that we are funding will now work on Thunderbird proper, and these improvements are automatically in Thunderbird (if accepted by the maintainers).

SoftMaker Office Standard 2012 is now available, too, and we are also offering upgrades to it.

No, you are supposed to choose "User-defined install" and then simply deselect the eM Client component.

I am not sure if the key would work, but you can always do a user-defined install for Pro and deselect eM Client.

I am listening. Give us a few days to update the web site for Office Standard.

A little cheaper if you use only one of the licenses in the SoftMaker Office Professional package. A whole lot cheaper if you can make use of the second and third license of eM Client that is in every SoftMaker Office Professional package...

Note, too, that while we don't offer free lifetime upgrades, you get free upgrades of eM Client during the lifetime of SoftMaker Office Professional 2012. At least for early adopters of Office 2012, that is twice the free upgrade time compared to the 1 year of free upgrades of the eM Client package from its manufacturer.

Two-page view is on the must-do list for the next release. For citations, we are looking into hooking up with Zotero.

Best,
