UrlSnooper / Re: Network Adapter Detection Fails
« on: July 22, 2008, 11:40 PM »
I'm having the same issue.

It cannot autodetect the network adapter and the correct one is not even in the list to choose. I'm using Vista Home Premium and have tried having URL Snooper run with Admin privs & and in XP SP2 compatibility mode. Neither works.

Autodetect detects the following:
Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller
MS Tunnel Interface Driver
Microsoft
Microsoft (yes, listed a second time)

I'm using my wireless adapter for the internet and it shows in Device Manager as the following:
Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

My other 'network adapters' that show in the Device Manager that are not detected are as follows:
Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)
Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI)

Hopefully this helps to track down the cause of problems on Vista. I am using the latest version on the download page for URL Snooper, with the version of WinPcap that is bundled with it, WinPcap_4_1_beta4.

EDIT: Ran WinDump and it looks like it might be WinPcap's problem, as WinDump doesn't detect the WiFi card either:

1.\Device\NPF_{F2C70A13-8988-441F-B0BF-226CF4626C4B} (Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller)
2.\Device\NPF_{475AAFD1-557C-4618-B1E6-32ADDB7E7CB4} (MS Tunnel Interface Driver)
3.\Device\NPF_{540E2759-A438-4D0C-A192-E438702F2C28} (Microsoft)
4.\Device\NPF_{688F129A-5D06-41F9-A052-525CDD443723} (Microsoft)

I checked the Compatibility list for WinPcap at http://www.micro-log...inPcap/Supported.asp and others with Vista reported that the '4965AGN' didn't work for them either (http://www.micro-log...rdReport.asp?ID=3717). However, someone with XP SP2 reported that it works for them (http://www.micro-log...dReport.asp?ID=15413).

Ack, realized this thread is ancient. Moving to similar, recent thread.
