Find And Run Robot / Re: Launching Windows Apps
« on: March 14, 2019, 03:43 PM »
Hello again!

Just checking if there was any development on the Windows App front since the original post...

How about Launching Windows Apps (Edge, etc)? Will it be in V3 or will it make it to FARR before that? Mouser, you said like 6 months ago that this feature was coming in soon. :-)

Find And Run Robot / Launching Windows Apps
« on: March 28, 2017, 10:17 AM »
Hello.

I was wondering if there's a way to launch the so called Windows apps (Edge, the new (Windows 10) Calculator, Clock, etc) from FARR (see this list I got. Note that I'm using Classic Shell, thus the look of my start menu):
ListOfWindowsApps.png

I tried adding C:\Program Files\WindowsApps and C:\Windows\SystemApps to the search folders, but it didn't work. As I found checking the running exe proprieties in process explorer, these apps appear to require some -ServerName parameter to be passed in for the app to run

Edge params:
EdgeProperties.png

Time params:
TimeProperties.png

So, if there's no actual way for FARR to do that as of now, is this a feature we could expect in the near future?

Thanks,

joce.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Launching Win10 "Apps" from FARR.
« on: September 16, 2015, 10:13 AM »
I have a very real feeling that most the new and funky "Apps" are the same.
Searching with Everything, I can find that Calculator, Camera, Calendar, etc appear to live in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps under very weird paths:

Weirder yet, I can't manage to get access to this path which appears to be restricted.
In any case... Back to the original question: The new Apps are not accessible from FARR. Are there any plans to remedy to that?

Find And Run Robot / Launching Win10 "Apps" from FARR.

Hello.

It seems that FARR does not recognize the new Win10 "Apps" (e.g. Edge, Calculator, Groove Music, etc).
I noticed because I just installed Win10 and I could not get FARR to bring the calculator up. I had to install WinAero's Old Calculator to be able to access a full calculator from FARR (the FARR fc plugin is nice, but not super user friendly).

Is there any plans to fix that?

Thanks!

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: New C# FARR Plugin: FARRAltTab
« on: September 30, 2010, 01:33 PM »
I just downloaded version 1.2 and I can't get the plugin to load properly.  :(
I run on Win 7 (64 bit), and whenever I start FARR with the plugin enabled, it crashes on startup.
I'd like to give more info, but I just get a stupid Win7 popup saying:

Find&Run Robot has stopped working
Windows is checking for a solution to the problem...

Anybody has an idea how to fix this?

thanks,

joce.

I got severely side tracked from my original idea to write it. There's no work from my part done on this. :-(
Mouser mentions FSubScript and the work of ecaradec. I wonder what's the status.

At this moment, I still use DQSD and FARR in conjunction, but just like last year, I would be extremely happy to be able to use only FARR.

How about a PHP function locator which lets me start typing 'php [function name]' and a list of matching function is provided and when selected takes me to the PHP.net website for that function (default browser).  If this is easy I could provide a function list to assist.
this is a good idea

There's such a search provided in DQSD.  If I ever get time to get into writing the DQ plugin, that one would come for free, along with hundreds more.

Sabot: do you know about grep?  This venerable command line tool does exactly what you need, and then more!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grep
Sadly, grep does not come by default with windows (bleh), but you can definitely install a version of it:

Hope that this can help make your city safer right this day!  ;-)

cheers,

Mouser, where do you think the main difficulty here? it seems to me that there's really not much JS coding to be done!  It's mainly traversing the script directory, parsing an xml file, displaying a bit of info, and launching the actual chunk of code contained in the xml file.  Am I missing something here?

12
  • read in all the .xml search definition files in some subdirectory of the plugin
  • parse these files and record the the keywords used by each
  • when farr informs of a new search string, check if it matches any of the keywords of any of the xml search files
  • if so, execute the javascript contained within the search xml file

Just an idea: Don't you want to prefix these searches with something else, as to avoid clashes with other plugins? i.e. "DQ amaz /books javascript" instead of just "amaz /books javascript".

The advantage I see to that is when dealing with a dqsd search, we could display the possible switches and their meanings in it the FARR panel (e.g. in the case of the amazon search: /books /arts /dvd, etc... )

What do you think?

13
The dqsd search addons consist of a standalone xml file which includes a description and then some javascript that knows how to execute the search.  You can download and look at them here: http://www.dqsd.net/...dqsdtoc/searchtoc.pl

BTW, I don't know what it would mean to you mouser, but all of the searches seem to be distributed on the GPL.     I'm pretty sure it means that you will not want to build support for it in FARR itself, but I'm not sure that building support for it in a LGPL plugin would be safe enough for you.  You might want to weigh in on that.

cheers,

14
The nice thing about writing a plugin to handle dqsd search xml files is that it would then open up FARR scripting to be even EASIER for others to write javascript plugins using this interface.  It's sort of one step removed and simplified from the original javascript sdk for FARR by ecaradec.

A wonderful idea, i hope we can convince ecaradec or czechboy (or even someone new) to go for this.

Being a coder myself, I can try to spare some time on it if neither czechboy nor ecaradec is interested.  I don't want to step on somebody's toes here.

Hi all.

There's this launcher kind of a tool that I've been using for years now that is called Dave's Quick Search Deskbar (http://www.dqsd.net/).
The nice thing about this launcher is the hundreds (391 as of version 4.0.0.3) of web based searches it includes!!!  Some of the searches include, but are not limited to: IMDB, All Music Guide, CNN, MSDN, patent search, amazon, eBay, UPS tracking...  The list goes on and on and on...
These searches are written in javascript, and there seems to be some xml format to fully describe them.
So, I don't know if it would be possible to write an abstraction layer to be able to leverage all these searches, but that would be awesome!

cheers,

Find And Run Robot / Re: Hotkey problem with FARR

Excellent!  it works nicely.  I'm just a bit ashamed that I had not thought of this myself.   :-[
Thanks a bunch!  Keep up the good work!  :)

Wow!  What a quick answer!!!  :o  Thanks! :)

Ok.  The other settings get saved.  Actually, I use Ctrl-` to start FARR, and that hotkey stays.

I'm using:
Find+Run Robot
v2.00.145 by DonationCoder

OS is WinXP SP2

In attachment, you will find screen grabs of the options dialog, before and after a FARR shutdown

Find And Run Robot / Hotkey problem with FARR
« on: May 05, 2008, 03:00 PM »
Hello.

I'm having this little nagging problem with FARR.

You see, I spend most of my day programming on Visual Studio, and the hotkey to stop the build is Ctrl-Break, which interferes with the default behavior of FARR.  Nothing to worry, I removed the Ctrl-Break hotkey from FARR, and everything works again.  The problem is that the next time FARR is restarted, all the default hotkeys are back and enabled.  It's really annoying to have to deactivate the offending hotkey every time I start FARR.

So, my request is rather simple: do not bring back the default hotkey on startup!  ;-)

Other than that, well...  Until now, FARR is it for me.  I've tried Colibri and Launchy in the past, but they're clearly not as interesting as FARR.  Keep up the good work!
