Find And Run Robot / Getting output from a batch file
« on: March 02, 2018, 11:07 AM »
I have not used aliases for a while and now I am not sure...

Is it possible to return output from an external program (.bat or .py) and display it in the FARR window after using an alias?

Post New Requests Here / Alt-tabbing selected applications
« on: May 09, 2012, 06:49 AM »
I am not sure if it should go here or into general apps, as there might be a tool for this, but I cannot find anything...

Basically, I want to select two (or more) apps from the list of running apps (in Win7). Then I want Alt-Tab to switch only between those applications.

Basically what the title says... I am working with several windows open (different programs) and decide to call it a day. If I don't want to hibernate (maybe I should, but on my previous machine this led to crashes, so I got wary of it), I have to restart all the apps and documents when I restart the computer in the morning...

It would be nice to have an app that would remember what was running at system close and restore them at startup.

Some ideas:

- Manual "snapshot" instead of recording the system shutdown, possibly with "Snapshot and close"
- Permanent and editable exclusion list, possibly with items which run at startup anyway to be excluded automatically

Find And Run Robot / Cannot run FARR from scheduler as elevated
« on: May 26, 2011, 03:39 AM »
I am trying to run FARR at startup as elevated (to use Everything). However, it just does not work - it seems that nothing happens... I've checked the scheduler events several times, they seem to be OK... Anyone knows what might be the problem?

I have moved to another computer (from XP to 7), so I reinstalled FARR and copied the plugins into the program folder. However, none of them are working - they are not seen by FARR at all, reinstall/update shows that everything is up to date. Any ideas?

Find And Run Robot / Very slow program execution
« on: September 12, 2010, 03:05 PM »
I have fought off a virus/trojan infection - one of the symptoms were serious performance problems...

I was pretty sure that I have succeeded, but one thing was not right - all programs were very slow to start. I have tried many malware detection programs, but nothing was showing up. Then I had an idea... start a program from menu! (I run all programs from FARR normally.) Surprise, surprise - it worked normally!

So, now I have FARR which takes about 15-20 seconds to run ANY program (including calculator, Paint, etc.). I do not know how does it relate to the infection, if at all. Anything I could do or check?

As the unit converter alias was quite handy, I have decided to look into time zone reporting utility.

Unfortunately, there was no command line utility which I could use for that purpose, although there were quite a few sites with that info... Then I got the idea: how about a general scraper that would get that info?

I've found this utility:

http://www.webscrape.com/

With this getting an alias was trivial:

1000>>>time>->showmemo Time in $$1:;;;appcapappendmemo C:\Program Files\Internet\PageScrape\pscrape.exe -uhttp://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/results.html?query=$$u1 -e"Current Time.*big>(.*)<">+>time in (.*)

(BTW, how to display the result in a nice format while typing? For now I see the url, which is rather ugly looking...)

However, the potential for this is much greater. Considering that the utility does multiple matching, you can get custom searches, various lookups etc. The page itself lists weather, exchange rates, spelling and thesaurus...

EDIT: Changed the parameter to be URL friendly...

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Alias: convert units (with Units)
« on: July 15, 2010, 03:14 PM »
Someone asked for this so nicely:  :P

https://www.donation....msg212665#msg212665

that I have patched up a simple unit converter alias with the use of GNU units program

http://en.wikipedia....Units_%28software%29

(wiki lists the windows binary link - you need to install it and/or GNU-WIN).

Here it is:

1000>>>units>->showmemo Result:;;;appcapappendmemo C:\Program Files\Editing\GnuWin32\bin\units.exe "$$1" "$$2">+>units (.*) to (.*)

Naturally, you may need/want to modify the path and the expression.

Usage:

units 100 miles/hour to km/hour

Result:
* 160.9344
/ 0.0062137119

I sometimes have a bunch of, erm, obtained media files. The files in themselves are fine, but the filenames are often a mess (especially when Polish characters are involved). On the other hand, for most of them I can obtain a clean nice list of correct filenames. How to get the two together automatically? I guess a perl script that would look for most similar string might do, but it is not exactly trivial...

Is there a software that would rename a file to a name that is most similar from a list?

Disclaimer: I have no idea how much such a project might take - if from the start you think it exceeds several hours, please disregard this...

I was looking for an image viewer that would work like this for some time on the Internet and still have not found it... Is it possible that nobody copied it just for fun?

If you don't know what I'm talking about, here is the famous scene:

Blade Runner Esper scene

I think the biggest challenge would be to implement voice recognition (i.e. use e.g. Windows SAPI, I don't expect anyone to code voice recognition in a few hours!) and to use it practically (grid overlay has to be applied, defining sectors etc.).

Naturally, this is pure eye-candy - no advantage over existing viewers whatsoever. Still, the wow factor for geek friends might be pretty big (especially when used with big TV or a projector!).

Find And Run Robot / Automatic keyword searching in Firefox
« on: June 04, 2009, 03:56 PM »
I was wondering whether it would be possible to automate the keyworded searches in Firefox. I've read the solution posted here:

https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=15359.0

but it requires configuring each search separately - not very convenient, especially that you have to do it twice (once in FARR and once in FF).

Would it be possible for FARR to gather the FF search keywords and use them automatically as aliases?

Screenshot Captor / Feature request: templates
« on: May 29, 2009, 09:39 AM »
While I enjoy using Screenshot Captor, I do have one suggestion that would make it even better, in my opinion, of course...

I use the program rarely and for several purposes. It happens so that those purposes require quite different setups: resolution, file type, dithering, effects, shadows - many things have to be adjusted. As it is now, (unless I'm missing something) this requires going deep into options, including Preferences window. Of course, I can capture all of them at top quality and make the changes with a different soft, but it somewhat defeats the purpose...

What would make it more convenient is to allow configuring several "templates" (with as many options settable as possible). I realize this would require serious reorganization of the options layout, but I think it might be worth it...

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Daphne plugin?
« on: December 20, 2008, 11:42 AM »
I would like to kindly request considering a plugin for Daphne, an interesting process management tool:

http://www.drk.com.ar/daphne.php

As it is already possible to use many of its features from the command line, it would be a perfect addition to FARR tools...

Find And Run Robot / Feature request: context sensitive key shortcuts
« on: October 23, 2008, 07:37 PM »
I think it would be useful to be able to define key shortcuts which are sensitive to the context... In particular, two types of shortcuts could be used - one if FARR is visible, another one when it is not. Of course, other options (i.e. whether the active element is the typing field or the results list, etc.) would be nice, too.

For example: I have Alt-Tab defined as FARRAltTab shortcut key. It would be great if subsequent presses of Alt-Tab would allow me to move through the list of results (so it would combine the traditional alt-tabbing with FARR functionality).

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Updater for alias packages
« on: October 21, 2008, 02:54 PM »
I have just realized that I've gotten so lazy because of the plugin updater that I do not browse the forum that often... Which is bad, as I only learn of new plugins, while I have no idea of those great aliases...

There are two options: either I can return to browsing the forum (but it is three pages long! it makes me read other interesting topics in the forum! worst of all, it's social!!!) or one poor programmer will spend a sleepless night (or two) adding support for the aliases in the Farr updater.

So, which one will it be?

General Software Discussion / Streaming video as screensaver...
« on: October 13, 2008, 02:35 PM »
Hello,

I wanted to please my kid and show the streaming video of the panda cub from the Atlanta Zoo, found here:
http://afczoo-pandac...40d7b732de6049586894

as a screensaver... However, much to my surprise, there is no working software that could do that?

I've found one program, Active Player Screensaver, but it refuses to play that video link (complaining about a decompressor). What's funny, it does not play even the sample feed it has configured...

Microsoft has a plugin for Windows Media Player, but this one only plays files, not Internet streaming video (beats me why, as it uses the same WMP functionality).

I know I can fake it by starting WMP after scheduled idle time, but I hoped for a more elegant solution...

General Software Discussion / Autoreplace in clipboard
« on: October 07, 2007, 02:50 PM »
I have read some "clipboard tool" forums, but have not found an answer to my question...

That is: is there a freeware app that would replace the text in the clipboard with something else? It would be nice if it did just that, I am not in need of a bloated clipboard manager. Ease of adding of new entries and flexibility (regexp?) would be an added benefit...

As the title suggests, I am looking for a wallpaper changer that would allow me to select two different wallpapers for two monitors at startup. There are many programs that do that (Wallpaper Cycler, Wallpaper Master) and many freeware changers, but I cannot find one that combines those two advantages...
