Post New Requests Here / Code to add a ViewType in Kodi Krypton
« on: July 09, 2017, 10:40 PM »
Is there anyone here who could help me by writing the code to:
create a two or three column list view and
code which would act as a placeholder i.e. to return to the same point in a list rather than the default which is to return to the beginning of the list. There's this tutorial in Kodi. I'm too much of a noob to follow it though :P
Thanks in advance

Post New Requests Here / Auto Re-size Tables (MS Word)
« on: November 16, 2016, 03:09 PM »
I have many tables (codeword puzzles) which I'd like to re-size to fill an A5 page (1/ page) . Currently the tables are too small and whilst I know how to re-size them one at a time that process becomes tedious and time consuming when you want to do many of them. Also, I'd like to increase the size of the numerals and make them bold. If this is'nt suitable for a snack any tips on how I could do this myself would be appreciated.
Thank you

Post New Requests Here / Screen Mask
« on: July 04, 2012, 01:57 AM »
Am after something which will allow me to mask all of a screen except for the part (define-able area) needing to be read. Would be good if transparency adjustment was included along with a color picker. I have tried Zorro and found it buggy on my Win7 system.
Not sure if this will be a simple task. No programming knowledge so apologies in advance if this doesn't fit here. Thanks in advance to anyone out there tempted by this idea.

Living Room / Skype version for Pocket PC 2003 OS version 4.20
« on: August 13, 2010, 10:07 AM »
Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to find a PPC compatible version of Skype. My PDA runs Win CE 4.20. The downloads I've found are for more recent versions of Windows Mobile. If anyone can help I'd be very grateful.

Thanks,
Clive

The partition which has my MR images will hold 5 images. Would it be possible (and if so how) to write a command which would tell MR to overwrite the oldest image when the partition became full?

Thanks.

P.S. Does anyone know of an on-line primer for learning about creating run commands?

Thanks again.

Living Room / RAM & Virtualisation
« on: October 20, 2009, 10:38 PM »
I've read that Win XP 32 bit can only see/use (I'm no ubergeek  :-[ so not sure which is the correct adjective) between 3 -3.5 GiB. If there's more than that installed is it possible to use this "extra" memory to create a virtual drive or to assign it to a virtualised process such as a virtual OS?

Thanks in advance.

General Software Discussion / CamStudio
« on: January 11, 2009, 08:46 PM »
Found this interesting looking software at FDAD (http://www.freedownloadaday.com/) & followed the link to the actual site (http://camstudio.org/). The "owner" is asking for help with further development.

A Plea For Help ...

I've got big plans for CamStudio and want to continously improve it and the Codec as well ... but I'm not a programmer.

The potential for CamStudio to be used as a professional training and support tool is huge and not just in the information technology and internet marketing arenas, but also in diverse markets and tasks like home eduation, recording online geneological research, keeping a video record of special offer prices on your favourite snowboarding (or whatever) website - you get the idea ...

It doesn't matter if you're at home in Las Vegas or on an Alaskan Cruise - if you've got a laptop or PC you can use CamStudio.

So if there are any Visual C++ programmers out there that have Flash, video encoding and codec experience who'd like a challenge, would you please let me know ... you can reach me at the Helpdesk (link above) ...

So, at some point in the near future I'd like to start accepting donations so any coders that work on this project will get some kind of financial reward in addition to the warm, fuzzy feeling they get from helping to resurrect this cracking piece of software ... so if you're feeling generous, please get in touch at the email address above and let me know ...

I'd also love to get your feedback on CamStudio ... what you liked, what you thought sucked and what you think is missing.

Who knows - perhaps someone lurking  ;) here might want to get involved.

Is it just me or are the member map & member location buttons not working for anyone?

General Software Discussion / Auto-installer Problem
« on: February 29, 2008, 06:08 PM »
I have some software whose auto-installer wants to install the program to drive C:, but my OS is on drive H:. Is there a workaround which could be applied? I have zero programming knowledge and consequently have no idea if this is a really naive/impossible question.

Thanks always,
Clive

I have some files with the file extension .VEC (graphics/CAD) which I would like to share with another person who doesn't have the software to open this file type. I have spent 30 unsuccessful mins doing Google searches looking for freeware which would handle these. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Clive

The ability to download several "layers" of a website used to be available in IE as part of the favorites options. I discovered that it is no longer offered in the most recent iteration of IE. As a user living in a remote region & who is never likely to have access to broadband this option was useful to me when a site had "knowledge" type information that I would want to refer to again later, but not want to have to wait for ages as each successive page loaded.

General Software Discussion / HDD Speed Control
« on: July 07, 2007, 02:55 AM »
Again I turn to the collective brain for assistance.
In some "try B4 u buy" tweaking software I tried there was a tweak which allowed the changing of the HDD's rpm - lower speed = lower noise. Is there any free software which achieves this?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Living Room / Drawing with 2 mice
« on: March 06, 2007, 07:11 PM »
My ambidextrous partner is interested in exploring the potential of this trait. She wants to know if it's possible to have two mice (pointing devices) operating simultaneously so that she can "draw" two images at once i.e. using both hands to create different images on the same screen in something like Adobe Illustrator.

Thanks,
Clive

Living Room / System Idle Process Using 85% of CPU
« on: February 07, 2007, 05:41 AM »
Hi Everyone,
This may be one of those newby questions that only the hopelessly naive would ask, but please be patient with me.
I recently installed a HIPS program called System Safety Monitor. It has the ability, like Process Tamer, to show what processes are running and the percentage of CPU being used by each process.
I was alarmed to see that something called System Idle Process was using between 65 & 85% of the CPU and this was when everything else was ticking over at 1 - 3%. SIP doesn't appear in the PT process list.
Is there really something in my computer using so much of the CPU or do I just not understand something simple which everyone else knows about?

Thanks,
Clive

I've made a very simple web site for our business - an electronic brochure really. I used Nvu, as I have no coding experience, and based the pages on a CSS template provided by A. Viklund.
Over time we've had some nice thankyou messages from our customers and I incorporated a couple into the site. The other day I thought it would be neat if the quotes changed everytime the home/index page was loaded/refreshed. I did a bit of searching and sure enough plenty of other people had thought of this before me and written some code. The problem with all the code I found was that there was no way to locate its action on the page just where I wanted it.
On my site's home/index page I have a three column single row table with a thumbnail in A1 & C1 and I want the quote to appear in B1.
Is this request worthy of someone's time? If not some gentle nudges in the right direction would be gratefully received.

Thanks,
Clive

General Software Discussion / Pre Upload Website Viewer
« on: October 12, 2006, 09:04 PM »
Hi Everyone,
I'm just building my first website and am wondering if anyone knows of or could recommend software that allows you to check that your site functions before you upload it? I know that it's possible to check individual pages, but is it possible to check that the whole site works e.g. links, etc?
I already have a site running which was built for me by my son, but it's outdated now and he's too busy, since becoming a dad, to build a new one for me. So the site I'm building is to replace the existing one. Any advice on what to do in case my site doesn't work after I've uploaded it and I need to fall back to his one?

Thanks,
Clive

fSekrit / fSekrit & keylogging
« on: July 31, 2006, 09:37 PM »
Say you're travelling and using internet cafes to stay in touch, pay bills, top up your credit card, etc.
It seems to me that such cafes would be the likeliest places to be insecure and have such things as key loggers running.
Is there any way to overcome this security weakness either when using fSekrit or any other encryption software?
I have some personal details stored at an encrypted web mail provider. If I can't remember a password for an account I go there and check my mail, but that is probably a risk too as when I open the e-mail containing the info it's probably put in a temp file on the computer I'm using.
Any thoughts on security when travelling?

Living Room / CD ROM Giveaway
« on: July 24, 2006, 08:22 PM »
I hate to just throw it out so if there's anyone in Australia who could use it let me know and I'll send it to you for free.

Whoops, I see this should be in with the other "spring cleaning" stuff. I guess if someone really wants it they'll find it.

Skrommel's Software / Toddler Trap
« on: July 20, 2006, 07:13 AM »
I liked the idea of Toddler Trap (I'm blessed with a grandson, need I say more :-[) so downloaded the snack. It's obviously simple, but how do you activate it?

Thanks,
Clive
