I've been having trouble installing latest update:

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 (KB3093266) - Error 0x8e5e03fa

Then I realised that My system info is incorrect!  It's listed as 32bit X64 based Processor....  tellme:

I have a 32bit X86 Processor so had to manually download the correct update and it worked!

Anyone else have this problem?

General Software Discussion / Restoring an Acronis Image
« on: April 18, 2014, 06:01 AM »
Me again!  ;D

Can you believe it's 2 years since this occurred?

https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=30012.0

I'm planning to recover an Acronis Image - need fresh start again! Do I need to unplug my second drive (now empty and waiting for Ubuntu) before recovery? There's no Boot Record on 2nd drive, except that strange 100mb partition left from old Win7 install.

Help needed:  :feedback:  :D

Living Room / Damn Hackers!
« on: August 01, 2013, 03:43 AM »
I'm still alive!

Had no International access for a week - my Router was hacked and before I realized (was off PC for 2 days - they had used up my monthly quota 5GB and most of my 500mb out of package at 20c per Mb

Then they had the cheek to start using my 10GB of local only free data!

Now have more updated secure Router - more expense R500 -

Only good news is: A friend heard my plight and immediately whipped out R100 - I have good friends bless them. and secondly I can now Access the net from my 2 Tablets without having PC on!

What a week!!!

General Software Discussion / Spider Oak Purge
« on: January 07, 2013, 02:11 AM »
I copied this of Spider Oak Website as a shortcut to purge versions:

c:\\"Program Files (x86)"\\SpiderOak\\SpiderOak.exe --purge-historical-versions d60

The command box says "cannot find path specified"

Their response:
It appears that you added some extra backslashes. Please try entering the command exactly as you see it here:

c:\"Program Files (x86)"\SpiderOak\SpiderOak.exe --purge-historical-versions d60

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Neither command works?

Any ideas?  :tellme:

Living Room / External DVD Writer
« on: November 25, 2012, 02:42 AM »
Hi - I'm seriously thinking of getting this:

Link to Kalahari.com

My current LiteOn Writer is refusing to eject the tray! Tried uninstalling Driver and rebooting but no go. It got stuck after a decoding error during a burn and although Mum managed to force open with paper clip to retrieve disc it now is well and truly stuck!  >:(

Any 'caveats' for an external usb writer? I don't use my drive much so speed is not a top priority!

Thanks

General Software Discussion / I Need DC Input
« on: February 19, 2012, 02:51 AM »
I'm planning to reinstall Win 7 - here's my plan:

Current Setup: 7 year old Maxtor 160GB partitioned ATA Drive with Win 7 installed
Brand New Seagate SATA 500GB partitioned and ready to go! (100GB for system - yes I know it's overkill but I've found Win 7 seem
to take up more space than XP
) rest for Data

Here's my plan: (After 18 months of using Win 7 it's become messy and slow and I now realise I need to do things differently and I neglected to make an Acronis bare bones Image after install)

I want to rebuild on new drive while continuing to be able to boot into current system until I've 'tweaked' new build to my satisfaction. As long as I wipe old system before the 30 day Activation is up, will I run into issues with licensing?  :-\

I plan to use old drive for Open Source OS.

Any advice would be welcome!

Thanks  8)

Living Room / Video Formats
« on: November 21, 2009, 04:42 AM »
I have a whole slew of videos - they come in different 'flavours'  i.e.

Wmv
Flv
Mpeg
Swf

I want to make them all one format, but can't decide which would be the best quality! :-\

Any input?

Thanks... :)

General Software Discussion / Harvest email addresses?
« on: July 23, 2009, 02:57 AM »
My friend who I do a little work for asked me this:-

I know there is software that can harvest e mail addresses if one gives them
a domain.

Is this legal if it's to source info for customers?

General Software Discussion / Note Taking Software
« on: July 23, 2009, 02:48 AM »
I just found this amazing programme on Gizmo's site...

It's called QuotePad and it's better than ShirusPad IMHO

http://quotepad.info/

I particularly like the feature that when you select text on a Web Page and paste it, you automatically get the URL, and the Reminder works well too! It docks to screen edge and pops out when you mouse over.

I'm busy reading all the Help online so hoping to discover some more features!

General Software Discussion / Kaspersky 2010 and FARR
« on: July 10, 2009, 01:57 AM »
Anyone here use Kaspersky Internet Security - It doesn't like the alias nircmd for shut down and restart and although FARR is trusted I need to specifically allow those commands - somewhere?

Meantime I'll plough through the rather extensive manual for the new version.... ;D

Activation/License/Language Help / Licence Key e mail address
« on: March 09, 2009, 04:28 AM »
My Licence key e mail address has changed!

On my Profile it's my new one, but on the about window of FARR it reflects my old one. Is that why I'm having trouble with auto update? Although I don't see a connection...

Coding Snacks / Docs and Settings Deletion Warning
« on: October 05, 2008, 08:40 AM »
Is there any way to have a small app to warn you if files are being deleted from Docs and Settings Folder?

I was uninstalling Super Flexible (thru Total Uninstall) so I could do a clean install after some problems, and only realised after some time had passed, that it had deleted thousands of my settings files (obviously a 'glitch')and I couldn't restore from Bin as I had not emptied it day before!

Fortunately, I dived into an Acronis Image and 'rescued' files.

I realise files change in there constantly in the normal course of events, but would be handy to know if necessary!

Thanks CleverCat    :)
