Coding Snacks / Idea: Lightbox
« on: July 15, 2008, 09:26 AM »
I assume this would be rather easy: display "white" on entire screen, press Esc to quit.

It would allow you to use your monitor as a poor man's lightbox for viewing slides, x-rays, MRI's, and other tranparencies.

Don't laugh: I needed to look at some (important) MRI's for a family member the other day. I created a blank/white image file and viewed it in IrfanView's full-screen mode. Worked for me.

BrowserTraySwitch / Firefox 3 + IE6
« on: May 16, 2008, 02:06 PM »
Hi Mouser,

I've used BrowserTraySwitch for ages - great software!

Unfortunately, since installing Firefox 3 Beta4, it no longer lets me switch my default browsers between FF3 & IE6. It's kinda hard to tell since there are so many registry entries involved, but certainly it doesn't correctly change the URL shortcut association.

I've tried your suggestion of manually setting each browser as the default once, but that doesn't fix it.

One more thing: my config.ini file is empty - I'm relying on BrowserTraySwitch's auto-detect.

Any ideas on how I might fix this?

best,
JohnB

Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Run on exit
« on: September 28, 2007, 12:03 PM »
I'm trying to find some kind of utility that will monitor a specific process (app, window?) and run another program when the first application is closed.

Here's what I'm trying to do: run a specific backup utility (w/ some command line arguments) whenever my client quits Thunderbird.

Any input/advice will be much appreciated.

best,
JohnB

Finished Programs / DONE: RecentRun command line?
« on: March 21, 2006, 09:50 AM »
After looking for such a utility for quite a while, I "recently" discovered RecentRun for creating a Start menu folder with a list of my recently-used programs. Works great!

It would be even better if it supported a command-line argument (/purge or whatever) that would clear the list of recently-run programs and then load the program in the usual fashion. I've added RecentRun to my Startup folder so that it loads automatically on boot-up; with this command line option it would always start with a "clean slate" instead of preserving the recently-run program list between sessions.

Also, how about a command-line option (/notray or whatever) that would load the program without its icon being visible in the System Tray?

Perhaps you could implement these features in a future release. In any case, thanks for creating such a useful little utility.

BrowserTraySwitch / EmailTraySwitch?
« on: March 12, 2006, 07:03 PM »
BrowserTraySwitch is great. Have you ever considered writing a similar program for switching the default email client?

In particular, it would be great if such a program could support Portable Thunderbird - as discussed here:

http://portableapps.com/node/490

I realize that setting the default email client involves quite a few more registry entries than does the default browser; plus you need to know the path to the MAPI dll and a buncha other stuff.

Anyway, food for thought - as if you're probably not busy enough! :)

ProcessTamer / priority not always set...
« on: March 12, 2006, 02:00 PM »
Hi,

I'm using Process Tamer v2.03.01 and it seems to have a problem with setting the priority of a process for which I've set an Explicit Rule (Set High). Sometimes it sets the priority correctly; sometimes it doesn't.

The program in question is "Media Player Classic" - an open-source replacement for Windows Media Player. I'm not using any of the other "auto-tamer" functions in Process Tamer; I just wanna use it to always force this one process, mplayerc.exe, to High priority.

Is it possible that your new v3 will fix this type of "detection" issues?

thanks,
JohnB
