Find And Run Robot / FaRR not closing after launch
« on: March 19, 2013, 07:37 AM »
I had an SSD crash and had to reinstall all my stuff.  I had my FaRR settings backed up, so everything copied across, but now FaRR doesn't disappear when I launch something.  I could live with that, but it even leaves the typing in the window, so I have to delete that first before I can move on.

I've tried unchecking and then re-checking the "Close window by default" in the Window Options, but it didn't make any difference.  Any other ideas?

Find And Run Robot / Hang while "searching history"
« on: May 21, 2011, 02:05 PM »
I know this has been discussed, so I apologize for bringing it up again, but I can't find the solution here.  I've seen references to UNC paths, all kinds of other stuff, but nothing that seems relevant to my issue.  I just installed FARR on a new laptop, W7 Ultimate, SSD primary drive, and FARR keeps freezing for 5-10 seconds when I open it, always when "Searching history".  It only seems to do it when I haven't used FARR for a few minutes.  Right now, for example, as I'm trying to reproduce it, I can't, but it happens many times throughout the day, and I'm not restarting between occurrences.

Any ideas?

Find And Run Robot / More Searching Questions
« on: August 24, 2010, 01:05 PM »
(Sorry, I know it was a really bad pun...)

I'm still not understanding Searching and the Search Folders options.  I just created, for testing purposes, a directory structure like this on my D: drive:  First/Second/Third/Test.txt.

My D: drive has a folder on it called Backups, which contains a sync/backup structure for multiple folders on my C: drive (I use FileBack to maintain a few copies of certain things...).  So, I've created a Search Folder (in FaRR's Lists options) with these properties:  Name - D:\Backups (I used the folder selector to make sure there was no typo), Subdirectory Search Depth - 0, Score - -1000 (out of desperation).  Then, in FaRR, if I type "d:\first test", FaRR finds 28 items in 15 seconds, and the first 27 of them are in "D:\Backups\My Documents".  The last one is "D:\First\Second\Third\test.txt".  What am I doing wrong?

FWIW, if I type "D:\First" into FaRR, I get 2 items:  D:\First and D:\First\Second.  Same thing if I add a space after that string - the wheels don't come off until I type a non-space character after that...

Find And Run Robot / FARR won't start - help!
« on: June 25, 2010, 08:08 AM »
I just rebooted my laptop after a set of Windows updates from yesterday, and I got a message that "Find&Run Robot has stopped working", as it was booting up.  I reinstalled the latest version (same as the one I had), but no luck.

You KNOW my computer is completely useless without FARR, right?  HELP!

Thanks,

Mark

Find And Run Robot / Question about FARR's resource utilization
« on: November 21, 2009, 08:55 PM »
I just noticed something a little odd about FARR's resource utilization, or at least it seems odd to me.  (I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, btw...)  I installed the latest version of FARR earlier today and, since then, it's used a total of 2:42 minutes of CPU time, is using 17,516k of memory, 10,793,136 I/O Read Bytes, 35,833 I/O Write Bytes, and 1,086,660,762 I/O Other Bytes.  And, no, that 1 billion+ number isn't a typo...  Any idea why that number is so high?  FWIW, my system has been mostly inactive since I installed the latest version, meaning I've been gone most of the day and not using my computer...  The only other process that's used more I/O Bytes Other is MsMpEng (MS Security Essentials), at 1,156,970,506, and counting...

I don't know that this behavior is different from previous versions of FARR - I can't say that I've ever looked at I/O Bytes Other usage...
