Yeah, I see what you mean. I liked the fact that you could embed it into blogs and other sites. It has some great use cases when collaboration comes into play. I'll give it a look and see what's changed since last year, thanks

hmm, it's been a couple of months since I last used it. The bigger problem for me is none of my circle actually use it since the initial buzz after the launch. Maybe they'll integrate all of this into Gmail?

General Software Discussion / Re: Windows 7 — first impressions
« on: November 30, 2009, 12:10 AM »
I've been using Win7 for a couple of weeks now. Switching from XP to win7 just blows my mind. It's great to look at it and still has the software equivalent of the "new car smell"  :D

A lot of the gripes mentioned here can be fixed by changing the default behavior. I'm still getting used to the fact that Win7 has more clickable areas (breadcrumbs cutting out the 'Up' button, links cutting out control panel icons and so forth). I also like the new start bar, but I won't have a fair assessment till I start working on win7 (still use XP for work, but switching gradually).

UAC does piss me off though, it would have been awesome if you could add exceptions to it. UAC gives me warnings everytime my system starts up because I have Everything search as a startup item. I'm probably going to have to turn it off. Other than that, everything is hunky dory

@JavaJones
backspace goes 'back' (which can sometimes be 'back' depending on the path you took). If you want to go 'up' just use the breadcrumb.

great. I've got invites I can give out as well. 5 left I think.

5
I got mine via a friend a couple of days ago. thanks for offering though.

6
I signed up more than a month ago. I didn't send the Wave team a message though, apparently that was a criterion for the first wave of invites, damn my terrible haiku skills! I suppose I'll just have to wait like everybody else.  :-\

7
I just got in a couple days ago and they haven't given me any invites to give out yet.

Do buzz this topic when you can spread the wave :)

Any new people with invites just waiting to be handed over to the less fortunate (me :( ) ?

Google actually does give preference to Wiki articles. They give it more weight intentionally. As for the other stuff, it's not just the search I guess. You'd have to consider not only whether the results are good but what exactly is indexed as well. Some of these search engines may be good but their indexing depth is no match for someone like Google, Yahoo or Bing. Also, it's advertising $$$ that most of the search people spend. Weirdly enough, I read somewhere that Google doesn't advertise their search engine. I don't know whether this is only in TV advertising or something like that though.

Hmm, you could try having different posts as galleries. That way you can password protect the post and conversely the gallery/group.
Or
You could integrate Flikr in there through a custom tag on WP. You enter the ID of the Flikr album in the custom tag and a plugin (you'd have to author one) would pull those photos through the API. That's a "shot-in-the-dark-idea" though.
